When I first got my Uniden R8 I was excited! I transitioned from Escort to Uniden for this feature set (in the R8) and the promised Bluetooth support coming in firmware soon-ish.
Now that firmware is available and the USB port (not USB-C, an OLD USB Mini port technology on a state-of-the-art detector!) is non-functional. Completely dead.
Can't connect to the Uniden Tools app to load the firmware. Tried a dozen different cables on 3 different PCs with WIN10 and WIN11.
Uniden support just shrugs it off, saying that "we are having issues with the ports" and that I have to send my unit in for a few weeks. And *I* have to pay for the shipping!
Now, this near $800 radar detector that is only 3 months old is down, and they won't even take responsibility to return it so that they can make it work, which it should have done from the factory?
I have zero interest in any future Uniden products if this is how they manage warranty.
Not for my other 2 cars, my kids, my 2 motorcycles, nor any of my sphere of influence.
Shame in Uniden for allowing the "warehouse staff" to put the onus for a bad product on the customer. Not my words, this was spelled out by the support responder. The decison is "up to the warehouse staff, and they don't usually care much about warranty issues".
Ridiculous. I could see it being a shared-reponsibility for a well-used model, but the honeymoon on this one wasn't even over!
Escort never treated me like this, ever.
