AmEx is a fraud. If you use the card at the gas station and made purchase for 20 dollars, they put a hold on 75-100 dollars extra for 3 days.
If you use their offers to pay in installments over a year for say Delta flight, they charge you the full amount right away and hold the entire amount for 8 days.

I have a American Express cash preferred card I have had since 2003 with a $11,000 credit line with 10,980 available. I have never missed a payment and carried a 4000+ bal before paying it down to $20 so they earned a high amount of interest of me.
Today I decided to use my amex card to pay the dealership for repairing the sunroof and get other repairs done on my car and the total charge was $4300. I could have used my wells fargo, discoverIT, capital one or BofA cards, but decided to use amex for the award points. I got off work 2 hours early to pick up my car and when I used my amex card, it was declined! I checked to see if I received a potential fraud decline but no sms txt or email was received so I called customer service. The man who took the call had a thick Indian accent and was hard to understand. When I inquired about the declined charge, he said my credit line is under review so they declined the charge. He could not explain what under review means and how that has any bearing on my attempted use of the card, so I asked to speak with a manager. After sitting on hold for 10 minutes, he came back on and so no supervisors are available. I asked him if he wants to resolve this or should i take my business elsewhere. he did not respond so I ended the call. Since I did not have any other credit cards with me, I had to drive back home to get another card and it was too late to get a cashiers check at my bank or get back to the dealership in time to get my car. I called amex back to see if the next rep could speak better enghlish and she was able to advise me my charge was declined because my credit line is only $1000! She could not explain why it was reduced by 10,000 and i ended the call. I've worked for other banks, Citi, HSBC, SunTrust and Truist and if any of my employees treated a customer like I was treated, they would have been immediately placed on formal corrective action! I myself have never been treated so badly by a financial institution in my life! I would rate them a 0, but 1 is the lowest rating. Although they can do this to any cust without warning, the will still need to appear when I file my small claims suit! Don't use your amex card. Keep it open for your credit score, but don't let this company earn any money off you. They need to be canceled.

American Express is a fraudulent company. They offered a promotion for $120 rebate if I purchased a laptop over $599.00 on the Dell Technology site. I did that in May 2023 and used my AMEX card to pay for it like the terms stated. The only thing I did was to use PayPal to facilitate the sale for security purposes. According to AMEX they will not honor the rebate because of that. What logic does that make? I ordered on Dell and paid the bill to AMEX. What difference does it make if I used PAYPAL? I will no longer use AMEX as my primary card. That is about $15,000 of business they will miss for not honoring a $120 rebate. But I guess I am small potatoes to them. The supervisor Richard was a real indigent jerk also. He could learn some manners.

Did American Express service go ? downhill !
I haven't used my Amex card for months I forgot I used it 1x last month.
Today I got text saying I'm late and I login then I finally remembered after looking at the statement but they also charge me $26 late fee. So I was upset.
After work I called told them I haven't used the card for months forgot I used it so I'm late. Usually they are good about giving me a credit. They guy told me hold and after a while he said he can't give me a credit. I was livid! I asked have I been late BEFORE? He goes NO you have not been late this whole year. So I was like why can't I get a curtesy credit? He goes it's a valid charge you ARE late. I'm like I know but I'm NEVER been late before. Anyways I tried talking to a supervisor long story short they won't give me a credit. I just don't remember their service this bad EVER! I just told them to cancel the card! I can't deal with this! I have been a member for 18 years! I was a member since 2005. This is the thanks I get! I told him I got a credit before he goes that's before! Lol so now they wont! Sad part is they used to have good service. I remembered back then they were polite on the phone and accommodating (like Amz). Now it's just HORRIBLE!

Client for 42 years. Disputed a transaction and it was closed without explanation. Customer service was totally inept. I don't believe they had been trained at all.

38 years with Gold Card. Up until this year have Been Suoer pleased I have Referred many people to them. But now No. First off they (like many others) have Farmed their customer service call center out to some Foreign Country, I Always felt Secure knowing I was talking with someone in the U.S. when dealing with y Personal information Now I do NOT. Also just Received an Email telling that Many of the Text Alerts Relied on will NO Longer be Provided come SEPTEMBER 27TH. Guess after 38 years it's time to Say goodbye.

absolutely the worst company I will never ever do business with them. I have a prepaid gift card for $100 and I cannot use it online. I had to go through five calls in order to get that verified to me and then they tell me I can use it in the store what's the difference from using it in the store online or in the store physically and what I want is not in a store it's online so here I have $100 gift card that I can't use where I want to there also was you also I was not warned that it could not be used online when I did purchase this hundred dollar gift card so I had no choice. They did not refund me my hundred dollars for the gift card and they told me pretty much that I have to use it in a physical store. I would assume that would be the same thing as online because they process it the same way. they also told me that it may work in the store. Which is not a responsible company either you know or you don't nevertheless, I don't get to use my gift card that I pay for online where I need to buy the supplies that I need to that I want this is a bad business. Always has been and I hope you all think twice before you purchase a gift card ort always has been and I hope you all think twice before you purchase a gift card or apply for their credit card. this is absolutely useless when you can't use any of your credit cards from them or gift cards they said that the companies online are all being investigated till further notice but still they let me buy this card without warning me that it cannot be used online until I bought the card and called the company, then they told me absolutely ridiculous to me. This would be fraud.

After 38 years with American Express,and never been late until 2022 when I had a hardship do to diagnose with cancer.
I reached out to them to work with me. the representative that I spoke with, just lied all over the place. I would never thought that I would have filed for Chapter13. If I could have a do over. American Express would never be my choice. As long as you never miss a payment then you are. In good hands. I added My Daughter to one of my cards. She went on a business trip, when she went to check in, the charge was denied. What a embarrassment moment for her. I then called American Express between my radiation' treatments begging them to please approve the transaction so she could get home. After begging so hard to at least approve the transaction so she could get back home. She did agreed.
There were no forewarning, American Express can care less for it customs. I am still upset the way I was treated after 38 years. Shame on American Express.

Wait times of more than 30 minutes from abroad and no compensation
More than 40 days of card being unusable because of fraud verification which I the end no one follows up on. Unless card and no one takes it in europe any way. Far from. What it used to be to have an American express card

Horrible cust service. Poor treatment of long term cardmember. Took damaging action for no reason. They are in the finance industry and do not even know how to calculate or are unwilling to calculate income correctly. Punish long standing member with perfect history.

Greatly Disappointed!

I have been with Amex since 2005 with 1 card. Amex has been disappointing in the recent 2 years, resulting my decision to close all 3 accounts, after the multiple teleconversation with the unhelpful representatives.

The processes to closure of accounts is totally unpleasant and unprofessional.

I have canceled my 3 cards with Amex on 12 Dec, after multiple calls to make resolutions to my issues. No circumspect of my situations and lack empathy. All bills were settled and accounts closed.

After which,
1) I cannot access to my accounts via app to see my past transactions any more. How am I going to make reference to past purchase?

2) my trip to Switzerland paid in Amex Krisflyer card (SIA) is still pending to fly in June 2023

3) I have a credit balance, which I overpaid and no letter/email to me that this credit is in progress. I have to call in , after noticing a Dec hard copy bill at home and called in to check.

3) I have to follow up with auto-payment and giro to other orginsations after the closure of AMEX card. I regret the trust I have placed with Amex , what was good in AMEX before did not continue.

American Express is not a good credit card company. There are many other credit card companies that leave American Express in the dust when it comes to customer service and credit card perks. Also, when you die they sell your paid off account and your heirs never get a final statement.

The worst people to service customers--they hang up or transfer you without even telling you then you spend more time in the cue--its happened over and over--Mangement should get fired----there is no accountabiity for these workers-Dont bother with the company or cards. Visa is the best

American Express customer service is degrading day by day... over last 2-3 years I have seen such a terrible service that I feel like canceling my cards right away... but sadly having used these cards for almost 10 years now with an immaculate history and standing, my credit score gets hit due to this rotten card and customer care now. I have stopped using this card now and have to keep it just to save my credit score hit.

Please take note current and future Amex consumers.
I wanted to summarize my unfortunate situation where Amex refused to honor one of their Amex credit card products' welcome offer when the online application successfully went through with offer confirmation from Amex representative at time of application. On top of that, I also received solicited application offer for the same card that was mailed to my physical home addressed to me from Amex at time of application. Since then, I met all requirements by now and only then Amex is telling me that they will not honor the offer. Spoke to multiple Amex reps since the complaint where they claimed investigation was done and that decision is final that they would not honor it without valid and detailed explanations despite their mistake and misinformation during my application and failure to explain why only now months later am I told I don't qualify for it. They went through the recorded phone calls and confirmed/admitted the mistake made by Amex rep and said that they will improve their coaching in future. Amex did not show any remorse and did nothing else to compensate for the mistake they caused that significantly impacted my situation. I was denied a subsequent request for further investigation and escalation.

We opened an American Express Delta Skymiles account that promised 75,000 skymile points after spending $3000 in the first three months. We are trying to book a vacation in October so we quickly began spending the money on this account. I called in to American Express when I received the card and was told that the points would post to my skymiles account 72 hours AFTER the closing statement date at which I met my spending requirements were met. I then planned to spend the money by the July 25 statement closing date in order to receive the points in time to book this travel. During the next 6-8 phone calls I was given multiple explainations of when I would actually receive the points....One representative told me 6-8 weeks after the statement date, one representative told me 6-8 weeks after the spending was met regardless of the closing date and the last representative told me 8-12 weeks. NONE of these responses were consistant and now I am left with a half planned trip including unrefundable hotel and activity reservations and I will not have my points in time. One representative told me that American Express had NOTHING to do with the issuing of the points and that I must contact Delta to resolve this...I quickly called Delta and was told that information was completely incorrect and in fact, Delta could not control the points from American Express...I do not know WHY this American Express rep told me this. I have remained calm and reasonable throughout this process but it is VERY frustrating. Also note that at least TWO of my phone calls were dropped right in the middle of talking to someone that was seeming to be helpful at the time. Only to lose that call and have to call back to explain the issue all over again. IF I had been told that the points would be issued after the spending threshold was met regardless of the closing statement date I could have spent the $3000 IMMEDIATELY upon receiving the card and then the time frame might not have been so critical as to when the points would post. Now I am out of luck. I am very unhappy with the misinformation I have been given. At the very least, the representatives from American Express should be able to convey consistant information from which the consumer can make their spending decisions.

American Express Bluebird Prepaid card Received a replacement card that is compromised by an attempt to purchase by fraud. Card is locked. Attempts to contact support is a never ending loop of unrelated key presses. I will have no future attempts to contact incompetent customer service. Their existence as a vendor is unbelievable.

Used second card 1 time with a single vendor.

Fraud protection owes me $36.05 from 2 compromised cards.

Bluebird debit card by American Express has deplorable customer service. Agents I have attempted to communicate with have poor English and poor listening skills.

Their autoatendee system as terrible offering a gaggle of useless press number options. Getting to a person is dancing with the devil. The lady answering my call experienced poor English. I requested transfer to another agent, she was reluctant and finally dropped the call.

Bluebird brags concerning "Safe and secure", "Fraud Protection". While allowing 2 of 4 fraudulent charges go from on hold to releasing to the vendor. Bluebird had a forty-eight-hour window to deactivate the card and prevent the charge. The card was deactivated after the fraudulent payment and a new card issued. Following card activation. Called again to complain about the charges being released. Would not accept my call because autoatendee advised the PIN did not match my SSN or card number. The 4 digit PIN is on the card with card number. When I attempted logon to my account was locked out. This vendor should not be allowed to operate in the USA.

Why is it a closely guarded secret where the CEO/President of Amex Canada is hiding out? All I want to do is serve the bastard notice for screwing me around and demand the contract - original instrument of indebtedness - to be provided within 30 days or the matter WILL be legally and financially settled and they can eat the balance. 26.9% IS USURY AND I AIN'T GONNA PAY IT NO MO'. As there is NO contract they are in dishonor within 3 days of receiving the registered letter/demand.

Dispute Ref #L8D9588 - MY ACCT - not excepting your decision - same reply from Amex in May 2016 for charge of $79.00 on 5/1/16 for again unauthoriced charge by Stratigig Investments (Baumann Letters) same company - have all documentation and ready to send you. This is FRAUD BY THIS COMPANY. Ipurchases a book on 2/5/16 for $97.00 that is how they got my AMEX account number and is

stored in their system - I made a copy of my account information - which I did not know I even

had an account with this company!!! I hope that AMEX WILL BE ABLE TO GET THIS RESOLVED BY HAVING THIS COMPANY ISSUE ME A CREDIT FOR $129.00 AND BLOCK THEM SO THEY CAN NEVER CHARGE ME AGAIN. MARIA L. WILSON.

I am an authorized user on my mom's card and we kept hitting snag after snag when trying to use my card. We kept having to call customer service repeatedly and never did we receive the world class service that Holly, in the financial review department, gave us. She was so patient and kind. She acted as a normal human being and gave thought and consideration to our issue. She walked us through the steps that needed to be taken to resolve the problem. We need more people like Holly who actually listen and then follow through with what we need to do to continue using our card. Thank you Holly! You for sure are the best!!

Just had a great experience with American Express customer service. They allowed me to open a dispute against over $700 in charges from StubHub who refuses to over refunds in the wake of all the Covid cancellations. Even though it was a few days beyond their traditional 120-day limit, the customer support rep at AMEX got the dispute submitted and my account credited. Really appreciate doing business with a company so interested in helping.

American Express has the best customer service that I have ever experienced, hands down. Whenever I have a question, concern or issue, they are always pleasant and help to answer any question that I have. If all companies were similar to American Express in the way that they treat their customers we would have no need for complaint forums.

This was my first week as an AMEX customer. Its started off rocky, but I just got off a call with such amazing customer service I was completely blown away. My card matches airline reward miles, and since I had to make a flight purchase while my card was lost they gave me the matching miles anyway! Changed my view 100% Right now I am very very happy that I got an American Express card. Unfortunately these sites tend to only attract the angry customers.

This is an A+++ comment. I apparently missed a step in paying my bill on line last month. I had no idea until I received my past due bill in the mail today. Because of my flawless payment history and Amex customer support, my penalties were removed and my late payment history erased without my even asking. I so appreciate being appreciated. I am a loyal Amex customer.

American Express customer service is top notch. They call, email, and text you when a problem has been identified with fraudulent charges, and work on your behalf to eliminate them. They have made us lifelong customers!

I used Amex before for traveller's insurance and found that the customer service rep did not fully understand the goal of my call. They kept cutting me off and offering lots of information that was not particularily relevant to what I was asking. I ended up calling back and lucked out on a good rep. I was reassured, so I went ahead with it. Then I found medassureplus.com. They offer additional coverage as well as other useful services. The extra coverage was very reassuring. They provide me with services that my usual travel insurance cannot provide. For example, I can call a support number and get help with translations, they can also assist me in case I need to transfer emergency funds. They also provide you with very useful pre-travel info. I am surely going to use Medassureplus' additional coverage each time I travel from now on.

I had a problem with Red Box rental double charging me and lied and said they have returned my extra money I call American express and they took care of it ,in four days I havd my refund put back on my card they are great by taking care of customers that I know of.

American Express have always offered me a great service here in the UK. I have had the card for just under 6 months and all has been well!

The Gold card comes with good perks and it does get you a lot of attention.

I did have an insurance claim denied but this was sent to executive complaints team to deal with.

All in all, they offer a great service for a great price. They have a customer for life!

Luckily, we have UK based call workers here and the team is rather small. I now know nearly everyone by name.

American Express has THE BEST CUSTOMER SERVICE. All others pale in comparison. My daughter, while traveling abroad, was a victim of debit card fraud, which deactivated her debit card and limited all access to her bank account. She contacted AX, and within 3 minutes was reconnected with her personal bank account with full access to cash. Within 3 minutes! Hasslefree! And the customer service rep with AX even stayed on the phone with her until he was certain that she was able to retrieve her funds. Kudos to American Express for reliable global services and the best customer service agents ever!

For all the people complaining about AMEX its probbaly because your petty, and broke and or are trying to scam. I have had AMEX for about 7 years now and they have been on point the whole time. I have there buisness card and I love it. I have never talked to anyone outside the USA. I deal with people from India all day long at work it doesnt bother me. Maybe all you high strung people should learn how to speak Indian.

Everytime i have called AE I have been very plesed with their service. If i damage my card, I have a new one at my door the next day. When I have an issue, I dont wait more than a few minutes for a live person. When there are purchases that are not made by me - THEY CALL ME (And no; i did not purchase any additional service for them to monitor it). When I want to buy tickets from ticketmaster - i can easily use my points. They are always so warm and friendly on the phone and speak english as their first language. I LOVE AMEX.

Great customer service but I wish their agents spoke better English. Many of them have very heavy Indian accents. I kept having to ask them to repeat themselves several times during the conversation. Is their call center in India? Anyway, someone hacked one of our business credit card numbers and charged five transactions in France (wish I could have been there). They filed a dispute and refunded the transactions right away. We received a replacement card within 24 hours. They are always polite and professional. I am very satisfied with them.
