  • my 87 year old mother has a hard time hearing so with her permission i talked with customer service about closing her account and paying her bill off in full..we did this the day she got her statment..the next month we got a bill for intrest..she closed the account and paid it in full..there have been no charges for 2 years and we are charged intrest for a zero balance and absolutely no one would help us

  • We are a merchant and have been having a problem with one of our terminals for 3 months now! Hopeless contacting the call centre as we can't make them understand what the problem. They come up with their own ideas and you can't budge them. 2 of our terminals, each with different commission rates have been programmed as one and we are being charged the hight rate for both. Have contacted call centre several times, sent emails and letters which have all been ignored. How does an Amex merchant get problems such as this corrected?

  • went to costco the other day to buy new tires .Had the deal ready to go told the salesperson to charge to my amax/costco card.The clerk said there was a problem with the card so i called amex to find out that they had reduced my credit limit by $3000 and the sale was over my limit . I call amex to see what was up and was told my limit was reduced for finical reasons.I asked why I was not notifidy and she said i would be by mail I asked why they would not have called me or e-mailed me before the change in limit.She said they dont do that but they sure can call you if you miss a payment .I was call the day after the missed payment{miss it because a work injury ]I then asked to speak to a manager I was told there was only one and she was busy so she would have her call me it is now a week later still no phone call or letter!!I would not ever use a Amex if it was not that its the only card that costco takes!

  • If you don't have the 15 digit credit card number, it is extremely difficult to get a live person at AE. After many attempts I found contactthehelp.com and got the number I needed and what I needed to get to speak to a live person!!!!

    I needed to pay my daughter-in-laws' bill while she is overseas and I do not have the card in my possession nor was the complete number on the statement which I just received and the bill is due tomorrow! I had to get it paid today. Love all the time they give you to get it paid!

    Any way, once I did reach a representative (George) and got thru the gauntlet of security questions, the process went smoothly. George was great and extremely helpful.

    American Express needs to be a little easier to reach Customer Service

  • They don't talk to each other within their own network. The left hand never knows what the right is doing, even when the information is already in their system. This causes chaos within any organization. One of their reps called with an attitude about a stop payment on a personal check. He insinuated I was trying to avoid paying the bill. My payment history is triple AAA. The nerve of him. The stop payment was initiated because the check was believed to have been lost in the mail after over two weeks. American Express had been notified the payment would be reissued by the due date, which isn't until May 22, 2010. Sorry for being upset, but I told him he could Kiss My A--.

  • Nightmare to get card canceled today. Took over 26 minutes as customer support would not accept "I just don't want it" as a valid reason to quit card. David said quote "I will not cancel your card until you listen to me" then when on to lecture me on my bad decision. His supervisor Larry was equally impossible to deal with. I have a very small CREDIT yet they gave me no information as to when I can expect to get it refunded. The company needs serious reevaluate how it treat the public!

  • American Express has incorrectly listed my account as past due on their website. I contacted them and got them to admit that it is NOT past due but they indicated that they could not change the status due to a computer software glitch. They also told me that I had to wait until the next billing cycle (in three weeks) for the correction to be made. This is my corporate credit card and I am afraid that I could lose my job if the account is shown as past due!

  • I was calling to ask why my APR went up on a card I've only been paying down the balance. The rep who was either in the Philippines or India advised me that the rate went up to pay for my benefits, like purchase protection and this that and the other. I advised that I never used the card and those benefits were useless, off her script, she had nothing to say, and was unable to do anything about my rate, which went from P+2.99 to P+10.99 out of the blue, no defaults.

  • Great customer service but I wish their agents spoke better English. Many of them have very heavy Indian accents. I kept having to ask them to repeat themselves several times during the conversation. Is their call center in India? Anyway, someone hacked one of our business credit card numbers and charged five transactions in France (wish I could have been there). They filed a dispute and refunded the transactions right away. We received a replacement card within 24 hours. They are always polite and professional. I am very satisfied with them.

  • I had a serious problem with a merchant and was extremely worried and needed help. I had paid on my american express card and the support they gave me was the BEST really and truley. These people were brilliant !
