I have rented exclusivily with Avis for a long time. Never had a problem, UNTIL NOW.
2 weeks after returning home from Colorado Springs. (Rental #U648463826) Picked up Tuscon, dropped off Colorado Springs
I received a letter from Nora Henry at Avis Operations Team, telling me they were charging me $450 for cleaning, stating there was smoke smell.
Neither my wife or I smoke, and we were the only ones in the car through the entire rental. This is TotaL BS. We had the car for a week, and there was NO smoke in the car, and there was NO smell when we returned it.
When we returned the car to Colorado Springs, we had to walk the key to the rental booth as there was nobody at the return aisle to check us in.
There was an Avis woman standing outside the booth. I had accidently grabbed an Avis pamphlet when I took my paperwork out of the glovebox. When she came back in the booth, she told me I had to put the pamphlet back in the car. I told her we were in a hurry and asked if she could just have one of their people put it back in the car. She was super rude, and without even saying anything, she walked back out of the booth, and walked all the way to the car to put the pamphlet back. She made us wait the entire time, outside in 25 degree cold, as she was doing it, and slowly walked back to finish checking us out. She KNEW I told her we were in a hurry.
I have never been treated so rude, and will now take my business to Hertz.
This charge is totally made up, and I would think by the totally rude person checking us out.
Bye Bye Avis. Obviously my years of loyalty to you meant nothing!

Rented from Avis for Uber Drivers in May, went to pick up vehicle and had 3 to choose from, inside was filthy and seats were stained, took pictures and went back inside to show the girl who rented it out to me, she was very rude and asked if I wanted the car or not, against my better judgement I did it anyway, spent 2 hours cleaning seats, a foul oder came from A/C vent, after the week passed returned vehicle, by the time I got home I received a message from the bank that my card had been charged $2415.96 and a dispute was already in progress, I called Avis IMMEDIATELY, was told I had to wait the 10 days that it was "standard practice", um, you said what? the bank cancelled my card, Avis still tried charging me 3 different times $2415.96 in June, by July I thought I had it resolved, meanwhile my bank account was closed due to the charges from Avis without any explanation other than "suspicious activity", and still haven't received any refund from Avis despite Avis stating they tried to refund the money 8 different times to an account that is no longer active, I gave them updated card information and then was told it was impossible for them to do that so I'm out $2415.96, customer service has not been helpful in any way and everytime I call they tell me something different it's been 6 months and nothing has been done

Yesterday we picked up our rental car from AVIS at Boston - Logan International airport. It was a One-Way rental and we were returning it the same day (3 hours later) to PVD - TF Green Airport in RI. We live in RI and originally were to be picked up by family but they had to work. We researched options to get home and found this to be our most reasonably priced alternative. Boy were we wrong! We got home about 3:30 pm ET from Boston, dropped our bags quickly in the house and then set out to return the car to PVD TF Green Airport about 15 min from our house. My partner followed me with our car. I went and filled up the gas take down the street from the airport. Pulled into the rental garage, spoke with the AVIS employee who confirmed that he would email me our receipt. I asked if he need to see proof of the gas being purchased and he said no, he could tell we filled it up.
As we were driving home, I saw an email come in from AVIS. I never in my wildest dreams expected to see the receipt with a charge of $8,693.74!!! Not to mention we also had a second charge for $287.40. I immediately called the Logan number thinking that's where I needed to start. The person dismissed me rather quickly and told me to call the 800 - national number. I waited on hold for close to 20 minutes before a person by the name of Joseph came on the line. After providing him all of my information and sharing what happened, he proceeded to tell me that I would have to wait up to 24 hours for this to be fixed. It took AVIS all of 3 seconds to charge my card $9000+ and I had to wait an entire day (he said possibly two) for this to be resolved. He doesn't know what my financial situation is. What about customers that have no other means of income or financial stability? AVIS maxed out my American Express with this charge. I can't imagine what would have happened if I used my bank card?!?! Not to mention that tomorrow our rent is due and luckily we have the means to afford this mistake but that is not the point. This is a ridiculous error on AVIS' part and what's worse is I can't even get in contact with the local RI office to talk with the manager there. I feel the employee that did this needs to be held accountable. This is NOT okay. This is more than an attention to detail error! You should be ashamed of yourself for allowing something like this to occur. Not to mention AVIS hasn't even tried to make it right. I will NEVER rent from AVIS again. I would rather walk home from Boston than set foot in another vehicle from AVIS. I expect someone to contact me about this.

I will NEVER rent another vehicle from Avis. My advise to you is to spread the word and file complaints with the State Attorney General's office. Avis charged me $450.00 on a bogus cleaning fee for animal hair found in a rental vehicle and no animals were transported in the rental vehicle. Customer service will not speak with me concerning my issue because I was not listed as primary driver on the vehicle. My son did speak with customer service on Saturday Octover 21 and was told "ther's nothing I can do".
Here's my story:
I paid for a rental on Sept. 16, 2023 for my family and I to drive from Jacksonville, NC to Jacksonville, FL as my family and I were leaving on a cruise on Sept. 18, 2023. The vehicle was picked up in Jacksonville NC on Saturday morning on the 16th and the employee for Avis did not accompany my son out to the parking lot to inspect the vehicle. I asked my son if the person was coming out to inspect the vehicle with us and he stated, "No, she told me which one it was and gave me the keys". The vehicle's exterior was very dirty but the interior was relatively clean. My son was listed as the primary driver on the vehicle, I paid for the rental. My son returned the vehicle on Monday morning, Sept. 18th and the attendant in the airport garage noted the mileage, fuel level, VIN number and the license plate number, no other inspection was completed while he was present.
On Saturday, October 21,2023, my son received a letter from Avis Rental to inform him the bank card on file - my bank card- was being charged $450.00 cleaning fee for "animal hair" found in the vehicle. My son called me and gave me the 800-576-4957 number to call. I called this number and spoke with an employee named Alonso, who asked me for the rental contract number, when I provided the contract number, he then asked if the phone number on the contract was - area code began with 832- (remaining numbers) and I stated no, I provided my phone number and he stated that he was unable to discuss this with me because I was not listed as the primary driver. I found later the number he had stated was the phone number on the contract is a Texas cell phone number.
Please note this: The vehicle was rented Sept. 16th to the 18th, the letter that was sent had a date of Oct. 9th, postmarked Oct. 11th from Virginia Beach, Va. but wasn't received in Jacksonville, NC until Oct. 21st, 10 days after the letter was supposed to have been mailed.
The letter was generated 3 weeks after the rental car was returned and the letter received 5 weeks after this?
I contacted the fraud department with my bank and closed that bank card, the $450.00 charge was showing pending at that time. I checked my bank account this morning and saw the $450.00 charged had been paid. I went to my bank and filed a dispute on this charge. I also contacted the local sheriff's department and filed a report.
I have also filed a report with the Federal Trade Commission and intend to file further complaints with the State Attorney General's office and speak to my attorney to file a civil lawsuit against the Avis Rent a Car Corporation. I read through some of the other comments posted and it appears to me, this company should be put out of business.

This is a bogus charge from a bogus company.

I made reservation in June. I gave Avis representative my voucher, fully payed for in advance. It took 50 min, because as he claimed "international reservations are always problematic". That's funny considering the year and technology we live in...Then he issued the papers which I had to sign and had an amount due of extra 65$~. Avis tried that at SeaTac airport as well. Refused to sign, as I payed for it all! Then he took the paperwork back and managed to reach a zero balance... Finally I got to the car.
The car was unwashed and real dirty on the outside with multiple scratches and bumps in the car body. But that's not all - when I'm in the highway I can hear the wind pretty bad and it seems like the door is unsealed. HAD TO STOP in the middle of an highway!!! It seems that the driver's door was damaged either in an accident or someone was trying to break in, hence wind is coming real bad through especially while on an highway.
I can't wait to see what they'll try to charge me with when returning it back

Following my previous email, and the horrible service I received in downtown Portland, they are trying indeed to charge me with false sums...now I have been charged with an additional fee of 67.38$, even though they tried to make me sign this fee and I argued with them, provided proof of full payment in advanced !!!
This is outrageous, this is Avis violating the law.
The Portland downtown rep. specifically told me, after I showed him proof of full advanced payment, that his manager will fix it, and gave me a paper to sign with amount due = 0.00
Still, I see they charged me with the amount initially requested
Now, I'm being told I returned the car late. ***Again, a total lie***
I was given the car late at 9:30 while reserved it for 9:00
I returned the car at 8:40, but the same rep. wrote that I returned it at 9:50.
This branch is a disgrace. They are simply dishonest people who try their luck in taking extra fees without you noticing.
I'm going to pursue this and make you sorry for renting me a car.
Nothing like bad publicity on social media.

After giving a negative review Avia-Buget stated "We have reviewed your rental history and it appears from our findings that on several occasions we are not meeting your expectations as a quality car rental provider. We have assessed that each rental experience has resulted in negative feedback comments. Therefore, Avis Budget Group believes our business model will not match your service!"
I made a complaint that resulted in me calling the police on an employee who refuse to let me leave! After Avis-Budget merger customer service has plummeted! I made complaints of 1. Bias in rental 2. Smoked out (drug use in cars) and on rental premises 3. Credit card abuse, over charging 4. Large security deposit holds 5. Disrespect that is race related 6. Cars not maintained 7. Not properly checking in cars 8. Charging extra cleaning fee because of no workers 9. Given the worst car on the lot by certain rental agent 10. Charging toll fee

I made the reservation and prepaid online. When car was picked up it was dirty. Sand and dirt in the floors and trash in the backseat area. Returned home early and dropped off the car 1 dat early and cleaner than when I picked it up. I reviewed the email and found that they charged me for $147 more. I called and was told that the prepaid amount was incorrect!! I rent cars routinely and this has never happened with Avis's competitors, which I use. This was my first and last time using them. Can't stand behind the rate given!!!!

Situation at Newark on 7/10/23 at5 pm is insane! Line of at least 40 waiting for cars and 2 agents working. At this rate it will be over 1.5 hours wait!

When I rented a car on last Friday, I put that my drop off place is in Nashville. I checked. On it yesterday because I needed to extend the rental. The drop off location was in Birmingham according to this website, so I put in the drop off location in Nashville once again. After confirming, when I looked at it again, the drop off location mentioned on the website, it said Birmingham. So once again, I put the address in for the place in Nashville and extended my rental for one more day. I looked at it a little while ago and, not only was Nashville not listed on the return location, but it says that my rental had ended because, even after confirming the change, the extension doesn't appear to exist and it says that I should've turned in the car on the 19th by 4:00.

Rented a pickup truck from Avis in St Charles IL. I checked on the rental three times with the staff within a month and the day before. I get there the morning of the rental and they don't have my rental. Very frustrating. Now I have to find a vehicle in an hour to make my 700 mile trip.
Very poor service. Would not recommend Avis to anyone.

If you work Uber please do not rent a car from Avis on 66th st in Pinellas park Fla .. the girl there will steal your numbers and add fraudulent charges on your credit card and to call Avis ustoner service lol that's a laugh they either suddenly disconnect from you after waiting for them to finally answer only to get someone and this was every single time they barely speak English and if they do it's broken and they use the wrong words for what they are trying to say .., fun fact .. I asked the last one hey what country are y'all in he pauses, then tells me Oklahoma I laughed because I thought he was joking and I said that's not an Oklahoma accent that's not even an American accent.. actual problem was the triple payments they charge my credit card and the way they manipulate the computer to what they want it to reflect .. sorry company .. I'd rather walk

Long story short my son is a police officer and was pulled over in Tennessee because the suv he rented from you's the plate on the vehicle didn't match the vehicle so he was taking out of the vehicle and they stripped him of his firearm the only reason he wasn't arrested is that he is a police officer and the vehicle he has shouldn't be on the road now he is getting the run around and nobody is doing their job to correct the situation. Something needs to be done.

Worsted Customer Service ever! You call the 1800 number and you get non English fluent speaking agents. Who have a hard time understanding. This company should really go out of business it would do the public a huge favor by going out of business.

I have once again been charged a $92 fine that occurred in a state I have never been in! This is the fourth time this has happened and your customer service dept as been absolutely no help at all. I work in customer service and this is unacceptable. You keep making the errors yet I am the one who has to spend hours taking people that say they will take care if this and they don't. I am a very long time customer and I will go to another company if this is not resolved. Times are hard and I can't have you continually charge me for fines I did not incur.

rented from avis at 183 cambridge st boston , car had florida plates .when i returned it the agent "Key" said it had sand in it and he would have charge me a cleaning fee of 450.00 . So i took the car to a carwash nearby and had it professionally vacummed . When i returned he said they did a lousy job and still charged me 450.00 on top of the weekly rental ... a total rip off ... i will never rent from avis again ... this agent was extremely rude ... he should not be working in customer service

Avis Detroit airport on 10/8 at 6 pm was the worst rental car experience we have ever had. Only 2 agents. There were only 6 people ahead of us and it took an hour to get assistance. When we finally got the paperwork done, they told us we would have to wait for a car. There were at least 100 cars on their lot. After much upset, they found us a car. We will never rent from Avis again.

My experience in the Avid Baltimore MD rental facility on September 9, 2022 was the worst. The line was extremely long, the staff all left at 8 pm leaving 2 person to deal with a line of 20 + people. My rental was suppose to be ready at 5:30pm and I was not able to get until after 9:30 pm. I will never rent from them again and will share my experience with many. Company needs more staff and needs to honor rental agreements

The worst experience I've ever had with a car rental company. Traveled to San Diego, California from Nashville TN to return grandson. Reserved a rental from Downtown Gaslamp Quater on August 24-Aug 26, paid $25.00 for a 1.6 mile taxi ride from Airport to rental. Got to the rental office and was told along with 2 people that was ahead of me, there was no vehicles available. The representative was so nonchalant, and keep saying it was not her fault that I was stuck downtown without transportation. Further, she continued to try to explain to me something about Uber rents their vehicle. This company is trash, and I will never rent from them again. My whole 2 day trip was ruined, just a lot of extra money spend because of their mistake.

The Avis Car Rental corporate office will most definitely hear about the erroneous and egregious level of customer service I received regarding my rental reservation. On April 2, 2022, I had reservations to pick up a SUV at noon from the AVIS Car Rental located at 3333 Western Branch Blvd. Chesapeake, Virginia. While at the counter I provided the necessary information to secure the vehicle on the reservation to an unprofessional heavy set white female who claimed her name was Linda. As she handed me the rental agreement to sign, she quickly snatches the rental agreement from me and states, "Mr. Ross let's try this again" because she felt that I snatched the rental agreement from her. I looked the Avis employee in her face and stated, "Let's finish this transaction." My voice was not elevated and not one profanity was spoken. Linda then proceeds to cancel my reservation. She asked my to leave the building. I sat down in one of the chairs in the lobby and called the Avis customer service number to speak with a manager. Linda then instructed another employee who held the position of an auto porter to call the police. While waiting for the police to arrive I was speaking with an Avis employee on speaker phone and informed him that this heavy set white female by the name of Linda cancelled my reservation. The Avis customer service agent reinstated my reservation. While reinstating my reservation, the Chesapeake Police arrive. The officer spoke with Linda first to obtain her version of events and then asked me what was my version of events. The officer shook his head (as to say Linda has no case) and said since no threats were made and nothing criminal transpired and my demeanor was calm and composed he would speak to her to proceed with the rental reservation. Linda asked to speak to the officer in a private room. The officer reappears and states, the Avis employee informed him that she was from corporate or headquarters and she is cancelling my second reservation that another Avis employee reinstated. The heavy set white female who claimed her name was Linda grew extremely anger because her unprofessional behavior didn't bring about her desired result. Also, Linda refused to give the officer or myself her last name. The Avis Headquarters based out of New Jersey will be notified of the egregious behavior as well the Avis Corporate Customer Service department.

This is the worst Car Rental Company I have ever choose. They ruined my wedding by giving me a car that "Required Maintenance" and hour after driving away and then I called and told them about it and they gave me a ID#: and told me they would call me and get me a new vehicle and they never did and they left me stranded at a hotel so I missed my flight to my wedding day. Then they emailed me and told me they need the vehicle back I asked them for a number to contact them and they keep emailing back and avoiding that question like the plague. They are the worst company with no morals or values and avoid helping a customer out but were happy to text me saying "We will report the car stolen", go ahead AVIS I told your rep where it was parked and I have not touched it since! Maybe if you would pick up a call or call someone back you would know whats going on. Typical "Avoid" tactic...

I'm Mike from Portland Oregon I rented a Jeep for just under a month and they told me it was 225 a week when I turned it in they charged me almost $6,000 then I had to get another one because I was in a tight spot had it for a week took it back they charged me $3,300. Now if anybody wants to call me a liar I have receipts I got proof I got bank statements everything. I called corporate office I called downtown Portland office I called all over talked to too many people and nobody wants to do anything they said they call me back and I'm still waiting and it's been 2 months. Nobody wants to do squat.. Avis car rentals are crooks

I rented a car from Avis a couple of weeks back did have problems and roadside assistance needs a review. However I had to deal with customer service and I talked with Alex Flames who was right on point. Treated me as if it was his problem and handled like he would want handled. I plan to share more detail with corporate but for this paragraph I would look to rent a gain from Avis. Problems happen and for me Alex handled them with true professionalism.

Recently my wife and I vacationed in Arizona. We encountered trouble with our vehicle.We brought the vehicle to the Avis/Budget Airport center in Flagstaff, Arizona.
In short, we were helped by an Agency Manager names Darron Story. Although this was a extremely busy vacation time he was very helpful, kind and went the exra mile to make us feel important and eventually changed our vehicle.
Darron made our vacation complete. I am grateful for the effort and want to express to the Avis/Budget Corporations the fine work and quality employee Mr. Darron Story is.

I traveled to Arizona in Feb. and had rented a car on the internet thru Avis at their Chandler site on Arizona Ave. I dealt with a young lady named Daniela who was very helpful and professional. I had the car for 9 days and when i turned it in everything was as quoted on the internet to the penny. No surprises and excellent service...I like that.

My husband and kids broke down in Cleveland,OH, 3 days before Christmas trying to get back to NY. The lady named Cathy at the Shaker Heights, OH Avis location was absolutely wonderful. She made miracles happen to get my kids and husband home, and we are forever in her debt. I wish all places had such wonderful customer service and great people working at them. Cathy made our Christmas and we can't say enough good things about her. She is a shining star!!!!

We left a suede coat in an Avis car rented and returned to Harrisburg International Airport. We live 25 miles away. Joan, who serves as Avis' lost and found coordinator called to inform us. We offered to drive to the airport to pick up the coat but, when Joan realized that we lived within 5 miles of her, she offered to meet us at a convenient location.

Yesterday (6/23/13)my cell phone was stolen from my rental car. When I realized this, I went back to the Avis location at the ATL airport and your employee Alex worked feverishly to locate it. He brought me back to my car, but it was not there. I was standing at the counter crying my eyes out because my life is on my cell phone. I travel to South FL weekly for work and return to ATL on the weekends. Poor Chad who was working the counter was probably stuned to see this 61 year old woman bawling like a baby. He pulled out a chair and gave me a glass of water to help calm down. Please comment these two fine gentlemen for their kind service. They truly are an asset for Avis Rentals.

While visiting Kansas City, Missouri, Steve and Rich (North Burlington location), came through for my family with a nice car. I had reservations with another agency,(but because my flight arrived a couple hours late they gave the car away). We were able to drop the car off at their MCI location. Great service didn't stop there either,(our porter was awesome, he drove us right in time to the airport). Can't remember his name, but his sister moved to Tampa. We flew into Omaha very late Thursday night, Sept. 13, 2012. We actually got there past 1AM and still faced a drive to Lincoln. Jean was at the Avis desk when we got there late that night. She was so helpful and so friendly. I really appreciated her kindness after such a long day in airports dealing with flight delays.

my cmments r as old customer of avis more positive than negative, but this time i had a damage at under the car , which i or any member of my family noticed neither by picking up this in harry exchanged car for intially rieceved car ,cuse the navigator was not working,nor during the renting time. therefore we were supericed as the lady went directly to it what make the claim doubtfull,furthermore she overestamated it.so i leave it 2 your good services 2 estemated in a fair way, my nr.:102811995

On 12/21/2011, I wrote a comment regarding the closing of an Avis franchise and Avis failing to notify me of this. Well, I eventually was able to speak with someone in Avis Corporate in Oklahoma, and my situation was rectified completely to my satisfaction. I spoke with Carla who told me Avis would honor my previous reservation at the airport (which saved taxi fare). The people at the Avis location at the Phoenix airport honored this fare without question and were the most helpful people I've encountered. I can honestly say that my experiences with Avis have returned to the positive side!

I have had a wonderful experience with AVIS . I needed to "transport" my college student to Indiana from NJ. From those of you who have not done in life it is quite the experience. With all the tension and stress of the day the last thing we needed was a problem with the car. DOLLAR rent a car (we used them because they were the only ones available with a large suv) There was a TINY clause that said we needed a round trip ticket. Give me a break I had called prior to the moving day to make sure all was in order. The agent knew what we were doing but never bothered to let us in on his secret THANKS TO AVIS THE DAY WAS SAVED!! THE REPS Claudia Francis and Mario Lopez went truly beyond the call of duty. I don't know what we would have done. DOLLAR Rental SHAME ON YOU God Bless the Avis people

There was some confusion getting all my family members together at the car, so I wanted to single out Janice at the Avis booth for her helpfulness. I was an employee with Avis a few years ago. I had a problem with a racists head of operations. I filled an official complaint with EEOC. I no longer work with the company and I went to rent and my current work discount was taken away and in the system I was notified that I don't work for the company I work for. How can a person who doesn't know my current position say I don't work for someone else. I am filling a complaint for harassment against the same lady who harassed me before I left the company because clearly it's her again.
