Horrible customer service. By far the worst of the three credit bureaus. I was unable to access my credit report and score online and for months now they have been giving me the run around. I have been asked to fax my W-2 and driver's license to two different fax numbers and mail these documents to two different P.O. Boxes. They keep giving me excuses like that the writing is too small on my Driver's License and that my picture is too dark. I had no trouble accessing my credit reports from Experian and TransUnion. I wish I could give them a rating below one. I'd like to give them a -20.Anonymous 5/15/12 10:46PM

Excersise in FRUSTRATION:
Disputed two iems on report. Both allegedly corrected, but still showing.
Overseas call center (John, really) barely speaks english.
This erroneous information costs consumers money, and then they have the balls to sell their service at a monthly fee to protect the consumer against their erroneous information. How can this be allowed (legalized mob protection)nates99 5/9/12 8:36AM -
I have been dealing with Equifax since January 27,2012. They are currently in violation of the FCRA on statutes 623 and 611.
I had an entry on my credit report that is not mine. I filed the dispute and followed all the Law's and Statutes in accordance with the FCRA. I have never recieved anything from eq. I call them and they tell me it was a verified debt. I informed them that I disputed for validation and they say they can only verify.
I went on to send forth the letters to the company listed on my credit report, waited the 30 days, then set the company a Demand for removal letter, waited the 5 days and then refiled the dispute in accordance to Statute 611 of the FCRA.
Now remember it takes 45 days to file with the companies. So from January 27-April 26 it was all a waiting game.
I called Eq on 5/7 to see if they had refiled the dispute, what their standing is, and how it is going to be expidited. (you have to stay right on top of them as I have learned) They did a great job of lying to me, telling me this was my first ever dispute on this item, then that it was verified in the past, to we did not recieve your dispute until April 30th and we have until the 5/5 to refile the dispute. Lucky for me I had the confirmation of delivery that I sent to their physical address. It was recieved on the 28 at 7 am. they had to place the dispute on by 7 am on the 3rd they placed it on on the 4th, they have now violated the FCRA and the information in dispute must be removed in accordance to the statutes.
Here is the problem, 99% of the time when you call equifax it is answered by someone outside the US. They are taught to lie to you an tell you that Equifax is in Atlanta, and you called Equifax. Here is the answer to us consumers dealing with this. Under this code HR 3621 of the Consumer Right To Know Act. If you ask, they must tell you where they are from. You also have the ABSOLUTE right to request to be transfered to American soil. If they refuse, they are once again in violation of the law. Call the corp. offices in Atlanta, you will get to speak to someone right there, however they are usually just as useless.snsbreen 5/8/12 6:20AM -
I attempted to get free credit report. Never did. However, $16.95 was charged to my bank account. Then again the next month, another $16.95 charge. When I called to asked that I be reimbursed, first call, asked for name, addess, SS #, and when that asked for my bank acct. #, I refused to give it..so I ended the call.
By the way, this was a person with a heavy accent. Two days later, tried again. Got a person in India. Went through the same
thing. Asked for all of the above info,
plus two credit cards and the credit limit on both. Must have all this info to verify my account?? I refused to give my cards with the high lines of credit.. and I almost forgot, wanted my father's middle name.... They still couldn't help without more information. With all this information, I could be wiped out completely. Sounds like a scam to me...
I asked to talk with someone in Atlanta...Got another person in India..
What can we do.....

I pay 15.95 a month for the Equifax web service. I cannot pull a new report and get the following message: Eval Code:- Status Code: FL, Reason Code: IC_PE_FL. Called customer service (India) I think and was asked to fax all my ID information. After 2 weeks I still can't pull report. I asked the lady on the phone if I would be charged the fee this month since I couldn't pull report and "get this" she said "you already get a $2.00 discount so the monthly fee will still be charged" OMG have you ever heard that response, I was speechless. Where's the BBB on this, the fed, anyone?riverrat 4/24/12 4:28PM

In 2011 I took out a Gold Service Trial with Equifax with one month to cancel should I not want their services and "cashback" of some £5. I canceled before the month's end and an Equifax staff member did the cancellation with me.
Now, some one year later, I've just noticed that Equifax have started taking money out of my bank account. Interestingly, the took the first amount out three months ago. Then they took the same amount out just a month ago -- so, that's with one month in-between when they didn't take anything out. And, the money taken out of my bank account is more than I got as a "cashback" sweetener when I trialled them out last year.
I had let this run just to see how wicked Equifax could be. You see, I had not re-contracted for any of their services and had no intention to either. And yet, there are two acts of theft by Equifax on my bank account.
I am now looking into the best way to handle this. I feel that Equifax owe me compensation for this criminal action which they've done. They have taken my money without my say so. They have denied me the use of my own money.
I am prepared to take this matter up in the courts, if necessary -- theft is theft. Of course, Equifax can say "But, we were mistaken. The computer that did the transaction must have switched itself on, ... we are sure that it was your voice on the phone the other day telling us to set you up with a new Equifax monthly paying account ..." So, that would be negligence as well as theft, as well as damages. Any one with any ideas how to go about this?Joshi 4/21/12 6:38PM -
I hate this company. It is taking me weeks just get a new phone number updated to release a freeze on my account. I never asked to use this company and if banks didn't need their rating for loans I NEVER WOULD. I have never had a problem with the other two and this is my 5th house I'm buying. But OMG every time its always problem with equifax.Mark 4/19/12 2:17PM

I am trying to buy a house and everything is all set...TransUnion and Experian reports coming back fine but Equifax is saying there is some sort of discrepancy. They have my information wrong in their system and told me to fax in all these papers to verify the correct info. I have faxed 3 different times and they keep saying they haven't received it. Meanwhile, I cannot get approved for my mortgage loan until Equifax clears this up. Customer Service is the WORST..they keep telling me that I didn't really send the information in, even though I have confirmation papers from Staples where I faxed them in from. Customer Service if RUDE and they barely speak English. How is this legal for them to do this? I did everything they asked, I have good credit, and I am getting screwed through no fault of my own!ihateequifax 4/2/12 11:00AM

Equifax has a person on my credid report with a different social security number, different birth date and different middle name.I have sent in documments on three different occasions to prove the error. After waiting A month I called Equifax to ask why it was not corrected and I was connected with someone with a very strong middle eastern axcent that I could not understand and she could not understand me.I am so flustrated I feel the need to scream.Janet 3/28/12 1:30PM

Equifax customer service is appalling! They have other peoples bad debt on my file and this is destroying my credit rating with them. I have a 999 rating with Experian.
I have asked them to remove the multiple erroneous entries in financial associates and credit agreements.
Then do no respond other than automated emails, for 2 weeks my complain languished in the USA and they had the cheek to imply that I had contacted them via the US site!
I do not want to know the name, address and all the details of another person of the same name, I do not want to commit ID fraud.Anonymous 3/27/12 11:06AM -
I had a security freeze added to my file in 1993 and was suppose to drop of in 7 years and it never did. it was added again in 2007 without my permission. Now no one can pull my credit cause it says i have no credit. in which i have plenty. I have mailed 3 letters to remove freeze or fraud alert and still they have done nothing...RIDICULOUS!!!!MAD ONE 3/27/12 8:44AM

Did the free credit check with Equifax. Charged me $17.00. Called to cancel (as I am legally able to do) and found the cancelling process is more detailed than the information it took to receive the report. I have a security freeze which has to be lifted once or twice a year. Experian and TransUnion are no problem. The process for Equifax often doesnt work by either phone or website for several days and there is no other alternative for contact. It's outrageous that they can have my information and not be responsive to laws that allow a security freeze.anonymous 3/17/12 11:16AM

I had a membership with them and didn’t have an issue. As soon as I CANCELLED, forget it! Now I have fraud alerts, fraud names, unable to verify my identity...you name it. I called Equifax about an identity theft instance. They convinced me to sign up for a service that costs me $14 a month. They never told me that as an identity theft victim, I am entitled to a 7-year credit freeze as mandated by state law. I was told by a police when I filed a report, he told me about the state law, and that I should be able to get a refund from Equifax. I called them but they rudely refused to refund me. I think they are dishonest.pico 3/13/12 9:00PM

I filled in my online form to view my credit report with this company, and they asked me questions that i was not even aware of from 16 years ago then I failed this part and was asked to call them at five pence a minute may I add. then I was further interrogated on recent credit to which I answered correctly and was told I did not satisfy there security questions.
I am finding it hard to get credit and signed up to this company to help me out with this, its bad enough to be refused credit at every turn, but to be refused your credit report come on is this company a joke, very disappointed and upset at their whole attitude towards people.c4rolbaird 3/10/12 6:19AM -

I have also had the worse time with Equifax. I been called to get two "disputes" removed from my account and had the worst of luck. They actually told me that they couldn't removed the comments that I need to contact the creditor. I have had no problem with Experian or Transunion handling this issue and they would be the one to give me hell.

I have been asking Equifax to remove a "dispute" comment from my credit report for over a month now. It is still not done. I have called a dozen times-- emailed-- submitted the request online; faxed a letter, mailed a letter-- all to no avail! P.S. the people who answer the phone are absolute morons reading a script with broken English! I have wasted at least 20 hours of my life trying to get this dispute removed. I am in the process of buying a house and without this dispute comment being removed, my loan will not fund and I will lose the house.mahnaaz 3/5/12 5:49PM

I hate this reporting agency. I just wanted to get the free credit report and buy the credit score for $7.95. I am in the verification process questions BUT some questions are not related to me, so I have to answer 'NONE OF THE ABOVE' on all 4 questions. The system advised me to call the 1800-685-1111, which I would really like to do so I can verify the items appearing on the questions, which I thought there will be live customer serv rep to speak with. I've been in trial and error in picking up a a correct options to get a live cust serv rep, but it's a failure. Then, I went on just to buy my credit score, forget about my credit report, just give me my score so I will know my standing.. paid the $7.95, and the automated give me the confirmation number, to my surprise, it took my payment, BUT did not give my credit score.. 'and just say thank you for calling..goodbye'.. not so ever give me any info. I am so pissed off... so I have to search google to find a live customer serv rep, so I found this site. I was able to speak to a cust rep, gave her the confirmation number, and I told her, i just wanted my credit score.. only to find out that they don't give credit score over the phone!!! Can they email? 'no they can't'. they can mail it for 10 business days.. The cust serv rep is offering me to open up a Username and Password so I can view it online, for $14.95!!!! ARE THEY SERIOUS!!! IS THIS A SCAM?? How come government are not paying attention to this reporting agencies... they are using these agencies to verify your credit account, BUT these agencies are taking advantage. It's funny, they get my credit card number, verify my SSN, my name, my address, BUT they cannot give me my score. Doesn't make sense! SO POOR PROCEDURE.Anonymous 2/27/12 12:00PM

I have recently been placed on SS disability after a long illness and have been trying to correct my credit report so I can move to a cheaper location, get a part time job, and replace my deteriorating vehicle.
I have tried to work through many issues and have paid multiple accounts off in an effort to increase my score. This has resulted in a constant decrease of my score instead of improvement, because of the non-understanding of these non-American customer service reps.
I am now so angry and depleted of energy I cannot even conceive of improving my situation.sosunny 2/25/12 10:43AM -
Tried to get an 'instant' report but after payng money was directed to 0844 at 5p per minute. The Customer Service Advisor was practically unintellible and when I did eventually figure out what she was saying I was asked questions like when was the exact first date you used 'a credit card I had for years' as if you would keep that type of info. in your head or indeed anywhere. I thin it is absolutely appalling that firms are basing decisions on info. supplied by this company.fed up 2/25/12 5:19AM

What I don't get is how is this company still operating at the level it is with all of the consumer complaints they have. i was denied a mortgage because they REFUSE to update their system and remove inaccurate items. I have disputed the item 13 TIMES and they refuse to acknowledge it. The other bureaus removed it right away when I showed proof it was inaccurate. Aren't they regulated by some government or state agency or are they just free to do whatever they want to do and ruin peoples credit becuase they feel like it. Dont even get me started on them outsourcing their call center to India. Ridiculous.exqzmee 2/22/12 12:10PM

Holy crap! Make sure you have time to kill and also make sure you have your equifax printed credit report handy, if you have to call to update your "fraud alert" information. I just needed to update my phone number on the fraud alert (I was not able to purchase a vehicle because my SS# had a fraud alert on it, which told them to contact me at work...I wasn't there, because I was at a car dealership!! - - So, I needed to update to my cell number). I was dealing with a foreigner, who asked several questions, then transferred me to the security section...after answering 10 more questions (pertaining to my credit report and charge cards that I hadn't even used for over 15 years), I was finally able to get the phone number changed!! 36 minutes later!!Anonymous 2/21/12 11:30AM

Wanted to purchase my report and score. They ask of course for billing information and ssn etc, etc. Then they bill you after I was billed it popped up stating I was a member advised them I was not. It then went onto put me through to my x-husbands report. I called them right away and the customer said I would not be billed and to try it again. She gave me password and I got my report. However today I found out I was charged for two reports. Advised them I did not request my x-husband report and they should not have ever even given me his report. He asked what card I used verified that I purchased two accts within minutes of each but I would have to dispute with them through writing or the bank. I cannot believe my ssn is attached to my x-husbands records and they did not care to even fix it. And they say we are protected from what!!! I cannot feel a great degree of trust for a company that does not have a proper way to contact them by telephone.
Their website is full of dead links. When I follow the ones still live I get warning messages stating that the link is redirecting me to a site that does not match the security certificate. I am cautioned not to continue! The website looks normal but does not behave as such. Does nobody monitor for security purposes?
It seems to me that this powerful company is an example of what happens when government or other connections are improperly utilized for personal gain. Shoddy, error prone, unresponsive and does not appear to have accountability to the public at large.
This strikes me as a dangerous company to provide my sensitive information to. Unfortunately they are in the business of collecting and compiling personal data.
Certain of my personal data relating to ID seems to have unexpectedly changed and this alarms me. I want to talk to someone about it!Worried! 2/14/12 11:21AM -

This has to be one of the worst companies EVER. I HAD to purchase a membership that I didn't want so I could get the information that I did want. Then, I call to cancel and "gentleman" I spoke with took ALLLL my information and then said he had to transfer me to another department to cancel my account. This is the most unprofessional, misinformed, disorganized company I have ever dealt with. I filed a consumer proposal 3 years ago, paid in full and when I checked to see if the record had been removed as they say they will, I was told the "Public Record" had been removed but all the individual accounts with their R7 ratings had not been removed. I spent about 3 hours on the first of February, the 3rd of February and again on the 6th. They told me it would be expidited in 3 to 5 days each time, after I had to jump through hoops to make them understand what I wanted. Now on February 9th it still is not done. They told me it wouldn't be done for 6 years ( a consumer proposal is 3 years), they didn't receive my documentation, oh yes they had found my documentation, no they didn't have my documentation and on and on, that they had requested my request be priortised, that there was no indication I had made such a request and I could go on for ever. Is there no watchdog that can make this company do things right or get out of business? What can a helpless consumer who has followed all the rules do?Anna 2/9/12 1:15PM

I recieved a letter from my credit union stating that 2 computers with my information in them were stolen on Dec. 21, 2011. The perpetrators have already had 40 plus days to mess with my information. On 1/27/2012 I finally spoke to a live person who would not give me her (RUX) emp number, nor let me speak to her super. My original request was to correct my birthdate. She refused over and over and said that i must send a copy of my drivers lisc. and birth certificate. She refused to let me speak to her super and put me on hold. Finally she gave me a confirmation number and said that she had corrected my birth date. She refused to give me her employee number and HUNG UP. This is the email I wrote to equifax
I am writing to let you know about the difficulties I am experiencing buying your product as well as the poor customer service that was provided to me. I would simply like to obtain my credit report online instantly as your website claims you can. I signed up, entering my personal and credit card information and then was directed to a series of questions the first two were fine and I knew the answers. The last three had nothing to do with my credit history, asking me questions about loans and cards had never had, naturally I answered none of the above. I was then directed to call a 1800 number to verify my identification. I spoke to Robert Macpherson ID# SXB136. He was very short considering he was supposed to be helping me buy your product. He kept very quiet at times and when I asked if he was still there he replied that the system he was using was very slow (very unprofessional to leave me wondering what is going on, especially with such sensitive material that I was providing him). He informed me that I would be receiving a credit history with the wrong birth date, and I would have to prove my birthday, and pay for another report. I said that was not acceptable and he conceded to mail me the one with the correct birth date. He then said he would email me a password that I would use to gain access to my credit report as well as a link that I would need. I was pleased to get off the phone after such a rude encounter.
Now I am irate because I received no such email. In short the information I received was rude and inaccurate. Please find a new company to host your customer service. This type of poor performance is unacceptable, especially when dealing with a persons credit and identity information.
This is the email I received back

What a JokeSiobhan 1/26/12 7:16PM -
I recently ordered my free credit report from Equifax. I tried to order my credit score for $7.95. The website was not functioning properly and it said it could not provide it electronically and opened a form to request it by mail, which also did not work and would not let me enter any information. I gave up and ordered my score through the other credit bureaus with ease. Then I got two email receipts - Equifax had charged me twice for the score they never gave me. I called and spoke with someone in India that I had a very difficult time understanding who said he would refund the charges. A month later and still no refund so I called again (after searching for a long time for a number to call). This time, they had no record of me ever ordering my credit score or the charges, so they couldn't refund them. They also collected enough information to easily steal my identity. They told me to fax a copy of my credit card statement to them and they would look into it. I still have not gotten a refund and can't even call to find out if it is being processed since according to them it never happened. Terrible company!!Beck 1/24/12 2:49PM

I AM SICK OF EQUIFAX! I HAVE TO SUFFER BECAUSE THEY ARE NOT DOING THEIR JOB! AND THEN I LOOK LIKE A COMPLETE IDIOT WHEN I GO TO BUY SOMETHING BECAUSE THEY HAVENT REMOVED INFORMATION. THEY ARE COMPLETELY SORRY AND WORTHLESS!
THE FIRST TIME I CALLED THE ATLANTA OFFICE SOME SORRY WOMAN HUNG UP ON ME, AND WHEN I CALLED BACK SHE ACTED LIKE SHE DIDNT VALUE HER JOB. THEY ARE NOT UP TO DATE WITH ANY OF MY INFORMATION, AND THEY HAVE STUFF ON THERE THAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN REMOVED A LOOONG TIME AGO! EXPERIAN AND TRANSUNION ARE ALL UP TO DATE AND CONSISTENT, BUT EQUIFAX IS A COMPLETE JOKE! WHAT DO YOU PAY YOUR EMPLOYEES TO DO? The status of a filed dispute vanished from being online. After 4 calls being rudely told that I have a dispute in progress (not addressing the online issue) and being handed a direct dial number that was disconnected. I finally was told there is a "known technical issue" and that I could call in for updates.
Each time I chose to be in the "survey" each time I was disconnected. At the end of the 4th call, I got the survey which instead of disconnecting me afterwards played an ear-splittingly loud circuit busy sound.
And this for the federally required free product of taking credit disputes. I do not plan to purchase ANY of their products ever.LordAndrei 1/19/12 12:29PM -

It is 1-9-2012, I have spent the day trying to dispute an error on my credit reports. It has taken all day literally. First, I called TransUnion's Federally listed toll-free number: It took 10 minutes to register my dispute with a native English speaker and get a Fax Number to which I can send documentation. And I didn't even have a free credit report! Then I went to Experian and Equifax. OH THE HORRIOR!!! It went on all day. I couldn't even get through to a person on the Federally listed toll-free numbers; they wanted to sell me stuff, and no fax number to which I can sent documentation. All I can say is that a prolonged web search brought me to this Equifax web site where I found an 800 number that said it was still open and wasn't. I'll try it tomorrow. I don't hold out much hope after reading the comments below. I have no hope for Experian; they clearly don't want to talk to me even in another language.mam 1/9/12 8:51PM

After holding for 30 minutes and finally getting a response from someone in Milan whom i could not understand. I requested a manager and was placed on hold with no response after 10 minutes. I then went to the web site and again after placing the number listed therein, I was finally greeted by another person I could not understand whereby I requested a manager. Same response(none) on hold for another 15 minutes. Perhaps it's time to cancel my agreement with Equifax. If there is a continued interest in my business, I request a English speaking American to contact me at 281-844-2900.Anonymous 1/9/12 12:47PM

Equifax somehow merged someone else's account history into my credit report-seriously? After I was told by a lender that my Equifax score was significantly lower than other two it took over a month to even get access to the score because Equifax based identity proof on other persons info and denied my access. Forced to purchase credit report because I was told I was already sent one. Double charged the $16.95. Almost 3 months later and still trying to fix credit report and get back 16.95 overcharge. How is all that even possible?Anonymous 1/7/12 3:38AM

I am experienciong all of the problems just enumerated by the previous commenters. This site has gotten too big to service customers properly without causing huge confusion. It's like you are talking to a computer or that commercial on TV saying his name is "Judy". You have to give them all kinds of personal information, they won't answer your questions about who or where they are, and they won't let you talk to a supervisor [they are on the phone with another customer]. They just keep leaving you on hold while they do who knows what. It is a very unsettling experience while dealing with such a sensitive subject. You hang up with more questions then you had when you called in the first place. I am on my third call within an hour to contact a supervisor and get a clear answer to a clear question, and I am on two phones simultaneously! Finally tried 866-640-2273.Frustrated 1/4/12 6:55PM

Have been working very hard to improve my credit score. I addmit it was my fault in the past and I didnt handle my credit well. Now I am older and I am taking responsibility. I paid of all my old debts. I know what you are thinking but I did it anyway. You will soon see that is not my problem. So I was able to obtain a car loan which is helping my score. Now here is the kicker. I have been paying on a small mortgage to Club Wyhndam for over a year which shows great payment history.I tried to get it added to my equifax file but they told me that since Whyndham is not a "paying member" they will not add them. I will use other words since I dont swear but I think this is a dirty low down practice. It just shows you they are only after the money. They do not care about the human being they are hurting. Also I checked my score again today and it dropped Two points for no reason. Nothing else changed. When I talked to "JACOB" he could not tell me why. Its like they just change it on a whim.So I dont know about the rest of you but as for me I am starting a campaign.I am contacting my Senators and Congressman and strongly urge everyone to do the same. I say its time to stop sucking up to this company. Please join me. I am writing on all these sites I can find. Mad in NC, Robert W Colvin IIrcolvin 1/2/12 3:39PM

Save yourself some time and money. This company is dreadful. Trying to cancel service I was hung up on, held on hold for 20 plus minutes and when I finally was able to speak to someone the first thing they asked for was my SS#. Without thinking and believing I was talking to Equifax I gave it to them. Then they proceeded to ask me for more information. So I asked them to verify who they were. Give me an account number or a payment amount. Something in my credit report that would tell me that they are who I think they are. They refused. So I asked for a supervisor. They refused. So I asked for the representatives name. They refused. I insisted. I was told George was his name. Then I again asked for a supervisor. He refused. I couldn't get ANY help. I finally hung up.
I would never under any circumstances do business with Equifax again. Period.sbotes 12/31/11 9:09AM -

They are an American Company, however everytime I call I get someone who is obviously from India. This is very frustrating as I can hardly understand what they are saying on the other end of the phone. They are rude and always seem to be in a hurry. My issues never get resolved! It is pointless and a complete waste of time to call them! They are one of the major credit bureaus however the act like they are a new company. It seems like all American organizations are sending their customer service department overseas to save money, however American citizens aren't benefiting from this at all. After buying a house and not being able to turn on utilities because of a 7 yr fraud alert that i was not aware of, I decided to contact equifax to see what the issue was. They told me to fax them my license and social and that the fraud alert would be removed in 3 business days. That was 3 weeks ago. Still unable to move, I called last week to see what was going on, first the lady on the phone said that the numbers on my SS card were not legible, just to turn around and say that they misplaced/never received a fax from me? WEIRD!!! So I had to start the process all over again.... I faxed the information again, and again 3 days later, they have not received anything. Everyone else that I fax to receives my faxes fine. Equifax customer service is ridiculous. I've sent two online disputes almost a month ago, in which they keep sending emails requesting additional ID. I've since faxed them the required documents TWICE and they continue to keep sending me requests for ID. I called their customer service dept, which was just a JOKE. It was like I was calling Malaysia or something. The customer rep had no clue - I asked her to confirm if they rec'd the documents and all they could tell me, was that if I faxed the documents, then they were processing the request. CLUELESS. There needs to be some regulation on these type of companies who hold the keys to your credit report. Additionally, when I go online to check the status of my dispute, it shows no record.h234 11/21/11 12:59PM

Trying to buy car the dealer said Ok credit score excellent then 3 days before we were to pick it up they call to say there is a fraud alert on my equifax report and I will have to remove it. I called and they ask a few questions and instead of asking my mailing address they ashed for my address I gave them my home street address they said I would have to fax copies of social security card, letter saying what I want and a bill with box number address on it. I was told it would take 4 days and its the Thursday before thanksgiving good luck no way. This sucks big time we were going to the Biltmore for Thanksgiving and take the new 2012 van with us now we will have to take our 2007 instead what a disapointment. This is a pain for me I don'tknow about anyone getting my id but it seems the only getting screwed here is me. Equifax is crap and the dealer is a inept since we could have had this done if they had not waited until 3 days before we were to pick up the van. I called customer care because I couldn't get logged in, forgot the answer to th personal question about a pet. I asked to give practically all the information on my report to the lady by the name of Michele (a foreigner with heavy Asian accent) on the other end of the phone. After 5 minutes of giving her all my life information, she said she could not get into my account which I am paying $16.95 a month for. This is bogus and Equifax needs to be investigated by the Attorney General. I fear they may sell my info to somebody else, but because I cannot get into my report to see what is going on, there is nothing I can do.Gloria 11/14/11 10:16AM

For a US company, they certainly do not have English speaking agents. Their customer service is awful and they make more mistakes than the other two bureaus. they have duplicated all of my credit and have sent my rating tumbling. They will NOT fix their problem and they just hang up. The agents know that they have you and they will give derogatory comments to you the consumer, and then they say, you should have paid your bill on time, although they are the ones who are INCORRECT AND INACCURATE, but the consumer pays the price with higher interest rates, etc., someone should slap a civil suit on Equifax and have them removed as the top credit reporting agency.whatascam 11/9/11 10:35AM

Went through a Rapid Rescore in an attempt to get a mortgage prequal. Had one creditor pop up that was keeping my score from where it needed to be so I paid them off and got them to agree to a delete. Trans Union and Experian deleted the item within 3 days. But not Equifax, they told me that I was going to have to wait 30-45 days for the delete to process. In 2005 I opted out of preapproved offers for life as the FTC prohibited the use of consumer credit header information for preapproved offers. I have a copy of my report with the promotional block. Earlier this year, I received 7 preapproved Citibank offers and tried to call Equifax. I was put on hold 45 minutes, told all representatives were busy, called on another phone got a representative within 1 minute and was put on hold until 5:00p.m. when the office close. I made a BBB complaint and Equifax told the BBB I had never asked for such a block, a block by the way that is still on Experian and TransUnion Records. I have no use for an absolute liar and if Equifax thinks I am committing slander by saying they lied, they need to sue me.

My wife and I called the Equifax customer "no care" center today about a credit report that we paid for but could not access online. We basically just wanted to reset our login information. Then a lady with a thick foreign accent, kindof manly, took our call. She was very loud, fast, and pushy. My wife talked to her at first, and she began to give my wife all kinds of compliments about her that made my wife feel uncomfortable, not to mention it was very unprofessional. Then she began to ask for my wife's personal information such as her SSN and bank info. Keep in mind that we just wanted to fix our login problem, I understand that she needed to verify our identity to make sure no unauthorized people access our account, but we were not about to give her our credit card info which she asked for. I got on the phone and explained to her that we do not wish to deal with our credit card info and we just wanted to fix our login problem. She asked to speak to my wife again and began to ask her for her credit card info again. My wife had it up to that point. This lady was being suspiciously pushy and we just wanted to hang up with her at this point. So to others who are thinking about using Equifax, DON'T! Please try Experian or Trans Union and you will get better results.Junpachi 10/6/11 7:45PM

Equifax' "Identity Verification" Leaves You Potentially Open To The Identity Theft It Purports To Protect You From!
Apparently Equifax has placed some sort of "identity verification" system with various financial institutions supposedly to protect you from identity theft yet I believe that very same system leaves its subjects MORE vulnerable to identity theft. The reason I believe this is that the questions asked involved third party family members even though the standing of the relationship between those family members has not been determined.
Many incidences of identity theft are committed by family members so why in heaven's name would an "identity verification" involve third party family members outside of the account?!?! A proper "identity verification" should ONLY involve the parties involved in the account and NO THIRD PARTIES!frankz00 10/4/11 11:31AM -

bombard equifax with information whenever you communicate with them. only communicate with them by mail. but send them copies of your driver's license, s/s card and utility bill. just make a hundred copies of each, then mail your request at lease four times over a span of three days. mail equifax the same request over and over.
noone within equifax reads anything. how could they considering the amount of mail and request they get from pissed off consumers?
it's a game. equifax gets your request and hopefully post it to your account which generates your equifax report to be mailed to you. this is why you have to include the items of i.d. mentioned above.
once you have your first equifax generated report, get online anddispute, dispute and dispute some more. dispute with both equifax AND the company reporting. for nothing, but nothing gets changed on your dispute alone. equifax ONLY updates based on the company's information, not your dispute.
negitive information has to come off in 7 years. inquiries come off in 2 years.
always write to companies to have negitive information removed. blame any natural occurance you can...floods, hurricanes, earthqukes...you get the idea. because federal laws are in place demanding that your credit can not be damaged by nature !
again, repeat mailing to the copmanies for no one reads anything all the way through. how could they? the clerk sitting there is pissed off at their job so allthey are looking for is a way to move to the next letter. give the pissant clerk a reason to help you get what you want.
remember, it is a big game. a game of paperwork, not words over the telephone to someone who can't help you even if they wanted to. do you understand that the average life span of the folks who answer your calls in these boiler rooms is three days of employment !?! 3 f*cki*g days !!! thats how long these customer service pricks last on the job ! paperwork, paperwork, paperwork ... that's the key. and always have the last document in the mail, do not take no for an answer.
set yourself up with copies of the docs i mentioned above. take an hour a week and mail, mail, mail.
it works !beentheredonethat 8/27/11 2:29AM -
Class Action Lawsuit?
How many people have been effected by equifax's inaccurate reporting, unable to reach them for disputes, unable to promptly lift your credit freeze.
Bottom line. This agency exist and impacts our daily lives from buying that car you need to get to work, from renting an apartment, buying a house or buying a new cell phone because your current one is broken.
This agency is irresponsible, unresponsive and they should be shut down. In Fact there should be a much needed class action lawsuit that forces them to revaluate their operating procedures.
This is a reputable agency and I don't think it should be shut down. But I do think the courts need to force them to change their operating procedures. I think they need more oversight. I also think they need to be audited.
And I am not blowing hot air. I am seriously motivated.

Am trying to switch to ATT wireless, who only uses Equifax.
A year ago someone charged $1500 on a credit card I had in my possession (where was Equifax then?). After that incident I placed a freeze on all my credit card accounts.
Called from the ATT store and got a person in India, telling me he could not help as there is a charge that varies by city and state, so he directed to go online and do it.
Online, Equifax asks for a pin? How do you get a pin if no one talks to you.
Transunion is the best -- you answer a few questions and all is done for you, not like GREEDY Equifax!

Equifax is quick to report negative information that they do not check for accuracy. This damages the consumers credit and score AND IT IS UP TO THE CONSUMER TO DISPROVE THE ACCURACY. IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO TALK TO THE DISPUTE DEPARTMENT. EQUFAX IS IN NON-COMPLIANCE WITH THE FDCPA AND SHOULD BE CLOSED!!!!!! THEY TAKE YOUR MONEY AND GIVE ZERO FOR SERVICE.Anonymous 8/10/11 11:50AM

There appears to be a "technical difficulty" with the Equifax ScorePower product. You are supposed to get two free credit reports but, because of a technical difficult, you don't get any. You are, however, offered a "discounted" credit report for $10.95. If you don't know the product, you think the score watch portion is all you get and, plenty of people are not getting their two free reports and are paying for whatever reports they get. I was told the problem effects all ScorePower customers and all they have to do is call when they notice their missing report access is, indeed, missing. They, knowingly, sell a product that they admit they cannot deliver without deliberate calls from insistent customers and then, after 45 minutes on the phone say you will be "escalated to technical service". The instructions are then to call technical service in 7 to 10 days (likely, wait another 45 minutes) on the phone before you might (hopefully)* get what you paid for. I'll find out in 7 - 10 days. I'd call it shameful, but I think it is fraud --no, more than fraud- grand larceny. Beware!DISAPPOINTED 8/9/11 7:39PM

The Equifax is in business just to get your money. Their automatic phone system is not helping the consumer. They should be out of business. For membeship anyone can get into their Website. To Dispute any wrong information is impossible. Since last November, Discover reported information on my credit report that was incorrect. They reported negative information to the credit about me that was not my account. Discover has sent electronic information to Equifax twice to remove the information and this has not happened yet 8 months later. I am going to the Atty Generals office if this mistake is not resolved. My credit is suffering from their mistake. This is unacceptable,I have spent several hours trying to correct this to no avail.

Well I am truly horrified by what I have read about Equifax. I was watching Clark Howard and took his advice about credit freeze so I got online and proceeded to apply which all went well till the confirmation page, I couldn't get a copy and now I have no pin #. I called and got a human to talk to, she gave the 888-298-0045 # So on monday I'll be tring to get help with my pin# problem. Looks like I should take a xanax or two before calling. wish me luck!!! I have been trying to correct a mistake on my details since January this year. (2011)
The other credit agencies have been responsive and helpful and have sorted out the problem.
With Equifax I am in an automated letter loop which simply keeps requesting the same information but clearly no one deals with the information when I send it. It has been and continues to be impossible to reach anyone by phone.
This is a disgraceful way to run a credit agency which causes such distress to individuals daily lives.maggie 7/23/11 7:03AM -
5 different calls. 5 different reasons as to why I can't access my report. I've faxed identity verification documents twice. No results. Called again and was told my "security freeze" (which I did not place btw) was removed. Still couldn't access my report. Called back again and was told I don't have a file because my current account lenders aren't reporting to them. I am going through a bankruptcy and now cannot verify if my accoutns are being correctly reported. Furthermore, I am going to be unable to rebuild my credit. I never had a problem with TU or Experian. I already reported them to FTC, now I may get my lawyer involved.grrrrr914 7/22/11 11:39AM

Wrote Equifax and TransUnion for my credit reports, provided identical proofs of identity. Equifax wrote me back and asked for my Driver's License and Passport. Guess what I sent them originally? You got it. They're asking for what they have. Since they sent me a form letter response, who the hell knows what they really want. Thanks for wasting my time Equifax. Would I have received better support if I had paid? Probably.
Mailed same day. TransUnion provided my complete report in 2 weeks. Equifax took 1 month to send me a form letter asking for the info I had originally provided.Anonymous 7/21/11 9:30PM -

Never in my life will I understand why these companies even exist. Here is what I mean. They create a number that is based off of poor information. Will not update the information even when asked by a Creditor. Will not adequately explain how they arrived at the number (so that a rebuttal can be submitted) nor will they allow the consumer to contact the corporate offices easily. This magic number then is used with the utmost confidence by lenders to establish an interest rate. And again the consumer has no rights to bargain but shop it around. My advice: Stay away from the credit game; Buy what you can pay for with cash; Take charge of your finances (by the way...if you follow this formula...your credit score will be negatively affected in ways that are unexplainable. Good luck. Keep fighting for your rights and call Corporate when you get a chance and let them know what you think. Then call your Senator and the FTC and demand FACT Act reform.Skipy33 7/13/11 5:17PM

While I'm still on hold, I got booted off the website within 5 minutes, I started printing but it wouldn't print out all the information. I always save this company for last as it takes awhile to get through. But now they've kicked me off the website and I can't print my credit report. They keep telling me that the reason for me not being able to logon is that my name and address is different which is wrong, I have a new computer and by the time I "allowed" the page to load it popped up stating the window of time to use the page???? WTF, now I'm on hold so he can see what he can do. It's a tech issue because even if they are able to get me back in I don't know how to get the blockers off without giving me a security warning. This is the one file that there are several inaccuracies and I'm wanting to get them squared away... Being on hold for almost 27 minutes isn't helping.STILLonhold 7/13/11 7:13AM

I will not go into detailed, but will so that when a person has documentation that states its clear they sould verify the information and if it states its clear from the company they should do so immediately. Equifax states that it will take up to 30 days when I know when you are in front of a computer you can do what ever your pass-word/ supervisor gives you authorization to go into what scream they allow you to do into. the phone number listed to call on a credit denial letter which entitles a person a free credit report will only allow u to purchase a report not receive a free report. Then it directs you to equifax website which then wont allow to view your report lol sort of.
And if thats not frustrating enough they then direct you back to the original phone number listed on the initial letter. In other words Equifax doesnt want to spend one minute speaking to individuals in reguard to their credit. Ninety nine percent of there generated income comes from selling our personal information to companies not from individuals getting there own information. To all the lawyers out there wake up. This is the next HUGE class action law suit. This information is not i repeat their information in the first place it is the consumers information which should be accessed by the consumer not sold and profited by. 2 years ago I had a letter sent to the 3 bureaus to have an incorrect collection removed. Transunion and Experian removed it within days. Equifax still has it on there. I only found out because I was denied a credit card all because of bad information showing I owe $70 that I do not owe. I called Equifax and could never get through to anyone, so I used the address online for disputes and mailed the letter in. I also filed an online dispute, which was declined for no reason. The only response I got from my letter was a form letter saying I already received my free credit report. Totally irrelevant! Well today I used Google and got this number: 800-846-5279 and was connected to an actual person. She gave me the fax number 888.826.0573 for disputes. We'll see if this works! I have found Equifax very frustrating and non-customer friendly. The only problem with saying "don't deal with them" is that if you apply for credit, they may go to Equifax for your credit report. It happened to me (and I was denied) which is why I have to deal with them so that they will have correct, complete info.

Equifax credit check can’t find my whereabouts, even though I have lived in the same address for over a decade and many bills come through to my door without any problems whatsoever.
I find this disturbing and I have also carried out a personal credit check and found everything to be in order.
This company mistake is preventing me from making a living as I am unable to have a mobile contract (I depend on this to get contacts and therefore commission). I have been constantly denied for credit without any apparent reason.
Maybe they should be sued for enormous financial loss, embarrassment and bad reputation imposed on my personal life. Above all this I have also grounds to believe that I have been discriminated against.
I can only say that Equifax and all the companies who use them are being unethical and unprofessional for allowing such a thing to happen.
Enough is enough... 4/27/11 4:19AM -
I was recently denied credit because some personal information was not accurate on Equifax. The other two places had it right, but I guess Equifax is the big bully all companies go by. So, I called the # the denying co. gave me. It's an automated service, no live person. They say to go online to view your report. Go there, fill out info only to be told they cannot provide me with the report at this time, and to call the same #. I know I'm entitled to a FREE report every year if I had just been denied. So, I go through the process of paying for one - $10+ and $7+ more for the credit score. I then decide to get the other two reports, and try online at annualcreditreport.com and guess what??? I got the Equifax to go through for free -- only I have to mail the request. But I didn't have to pay for it after all!!!! AARRGGGG!!! Thieves and bullies! I am considering getting a car loan, so I went to freecreditreports.com to find out my credit score. Was disappointed to learn that you have to pay for that piece of information, but clicked on the link to buy from Equifax, because it was the cheapest option. The advertised price was $7.95.
The link took me to a purchase page where I entered my cc info. I was then taken to a confirmation page, where I received a receipt for $15.95. Equifax had overcharged me! When I clicked on the "view my product" link, I was taken to the Equifax home page. There I was asked to login to view my credit score, but because I was never asked to register, I didn't have a username and password. The "register now" button took me to another purchase page where I would have had to pay again for my credit score.
That was almost a month ago. Since then, I have submitted three online customer service requests and spoken with one live person, and I still can't log on to their stupid website, and no matter how much I beg, no one will tell me my credit score!!! The only option left is to dispute the charge on my credit card and purchase from someone else.

I am a landlord. My wife is a real estate broker for Coldwell Banker. We own a rental property available for rent. We have a prospective tenant. We are doing a credit report on this person to see if we think he can pay the rent. Coldwell obtained a credit report on the tenant and gave it to me. The report is almost unintelligible. We have no idea from the report if the tenant is a good risk or not. I called Equifax at 800-685-5000. After listening to prompts for 10 minutes, I finally got a live person after another 15 minutes who was totally not helpful and gave me a second number of 888-202-4025. Talked to a representative who would not discuss the report with me. He said Coldwell should have discussed the report with me. Coldwell said they were not qualified to discuss the report. Equifax playing hard ball because they know that lenders and merchant based the borrowers credit score and report with Equifax first. It's frustrating dealing with them. They have been investigating my dispute for over 35 days. Unfortunately they never did anything but to removed their own statement "under investigation" from your credit report. That's about it. Received "free" report on-line. I needed the score so called to order one (I had to call as there was NO link for the $7.95 option). After giving my CC# I was transfered and then disconnected. This was an automated phone system; no humans to talk to. I called back and talked to a rep who said he saw no record of my transaction and I wouldn't be charged. Within the hour, the charge appeared on my account (I checked on-line). It was a PENDING charge. I called back and was assured I was NOT charged. They checked by NAME, SS# and CC#.
Today, the charge has moved from PENDING to POSTED.
I guess I'll call back and spend another hour trying to convince someone at Equifax they made a mistake.

Please try Experian or Trans Union and you will get better results.Junpachi 2/26/11 1:38PM

NO LONGER AS OF TODAY. ive noticed over the past year there website has gotten slower and slower, often , timing out with error messages, "sorry the site is temporarily down due to heavy traffic"..Im sick of paying for a service i cannot use. I literally have to spend about 15 minutes WAITING for it to log me in and im on a T1 connection!!!!It will not allow me to dispute my file, i keep getting "Due to a temporary error the request could not be serviced.
The problem could be because:
* The server is busy.
* The server is temporarily unavailable. "
I called to complaint and cancel and of course i speak to an indian guy who just wants to keep up-sale me on other products..I had to, after about 10 minutes, DEMAND he cancel my membership. As well, when i first called, an automated recording came on and ask "at the end of this call, we would love to receive feedback, press 2 if you would like to be taken to a survey after this call"..of course after i spoke to the guy, he hung up and low and behold, "SILENCE" i waited 3 minutes and no survey ever came on. So im assuming they have to survey rigged so that if the Rep felt you were satisfied, then yea, you would get connected to a survey, if the rep felt you were not satisfied, NO SURVEY!!!..It's a damn shame number one that we have to PAY money to view our credit reports and scores, it is something else when we pay and do not get the service we are entitled to..PEOPLE SAVE YOUR MONEY, im telling you it is NOT worth the hassle.brb28054 2/5/11 10:37AM -
I am literally stunned by how poorly i was treated. I am a call center rep, and i would've been fired if my superiors heard this call. After over 40 minutes on hold, i finally got through to a rep. she did not give her name and her accent was so thick that i could not understand her clearly. I explained to her very politely that i was having trouble understanding her and would like either a different agent or a supervisor, to which she responded that i should use the online or automated services. I said i was not comfortable with either options, and would continue to hold if necessary. She refused and told me, in a very rude tone that a supervisor was not 'necessary' here. I told her that it was not her place to tell me what was necessary. Again she refused and said i should give her a contact phone number. I was starting to say again that i would prefer to continue to hold, but mid sentence and without a word of warning or apology for the delay, she cut me off with the hold equivalent of hanging up. I was still speaking and suddenly there was music. 20 more minutes passed. She picked up again and said high call volume made no supervisor available and something else i couldn't understand, but in a rude and belligerent tone. then i was on hold again. 15-20 minutes later, without warning, i was disconnected. No explanation or apology of any kind, automated or otherwise, just disconnected. So, almost 90 minutes on the phone, about 85 minutes of which was hold music, only to be hung up on while still on hold! The most unprofessional and rude treatment i've ever received.inshock79 2/2/11 12:28PM

I found only one working telephone number for Equifax: 888-298-0045. All the rest are bogus, voice-mail-jail, dead-end recordings.
I, too, got the run-around from the worthless predators who work at Equifax: I went online for my free report, spent 2 hours filing out their forms, only to be told my report was not available online and I had to mail an application form, with two forms of ID, to their Atlanta office. What I received was another snotty form letter telling me I had to send money, since I had already accessed my one free report online.
I called all the fake phone numbers and received the same recordings. Only the number above answered, and it was answered by someone overseas with a heavy accent, named Chloe (pronounced "klo'-ee").
She admitted to problems with their online request form. She took my information and promised my report would be received within 7-10 days.
If you cannot reach these spineless parasites, by all means go to your bank and reverse the charges ASAP, since you did not receive what you paid for!
And if they should call you on the chargeback, great; now, you've finally got their attention!equifax-victim 1/19/11 1:30PM -

Just called them regarding a credit card of mine being "compromised"; meaning some jerk
buying my CC# and buying crap and having it overnighted to CA. Anyhow, just wanted to put a fraud alert and called Equifax. Well, sat thru a stupid sales pitch "for $14.95 a month I can be alerted" blah, blah, with a guy who speaks poor English.
Why is a credit bureau allowed to do this?
Their job is to report and hopefully fix
credit issues. All I need is another fee for something that just confuses what is already confusing.rgnchris 1/6/11 9:22AM -
I recently was denied a credit card application with Amazon because Equifax reported I have a current tax lien against me. The tax lien was filed in error 18 months ago and was corrected within 2 weeks and was removed. No other credit reporting agency shows this lien. Still waiting after 20 days for Equifax to resolve this. Interesting that it was easier to get the state tax commission to correct the error than for equifax to note that it was removed 18 months ago. I find it humorous in trying to get resolution on this, for a fee, Equifax offers to send me my credit score. When they have this claring error and show my employer as one I haven't worked for in 8.5 years, why would I consider their credit score remotely accurate.wvlivingston 12/25/10 9:59AM

I have been trying to reach an equifax representative about my dispute information, once I press number 1 to speak to someone in dispute I get disconnected, THREE times this has happened, so I go on-line and start another dispute, while disputing the items, I go press to dispute an item and receive the message basically telling me they are unable to process my dispute, so I try to log on again, this time I get a 4 question proving who I am 1st question: In 2006 I opened a mortgage with what company,I never had a mortgage so I select none, #2 how much, ans: none, question 3 my middle name I enter the correct name, number 4 where was my social security entered, I again entered the correct answer, get told that the information do not match HELLO are these guys serious I enter all correct information yet they tell me its not accurate, no one answers for me to speak to them, and then on top of all this strangers have more access to my personal information then I do, and can add things they want to add and change what they want to change, and I can't even view or get a copy of my own credit report. If all my answers were incorrect then I wish one of the slow representatives will tell me the correct answers, so I can know. What makes this so strange is that when I first started to dispute I pressed mortgages and the message says you have no mortgages on your credit file. But yet they tell me I am wrong, because of their stupidness.Extrmlyblessed 11/12/10 5:51PM

I can't believe that in this era, where credit is so important, that a company like equifax is aloud to operate the way it does. Poor service being the small defect in the company, they simply cannot do the task of collecting data and providing a report to there members that pay them quite a fair amount of money.
I am one of the lucky ones there error just shows creditors i have no credit or credit score, they show on a different persons credit, LOL sucks to be them :).
The best part is even though i have brought this to there attn: they have no desire to look into it further.
Warning equifax may make someone eles credit your problem.

I had to take a bankruptcy in 2006 due medical bills due to cancer and treatment. I am fine now, but Equifax is the ONLY credit agency that has wrong info. It is illegal to have current transactions on discharged bankruptcy other than the last date reported at the time of bankruptcy. I put in a dispute with Equifax & they just made it current. It doesn't take a lot of brain power to look in public records to verify. My credit rating is excellent now, but still they keep updating that bankrupted account to read date of activity 10/2010 and that is WRONG. I cannot get a person and the emails to the CEO are bouncing back. I will write him directly if necessary, but I may have to take out a suit against them due to the fact that no one seems to use their heads.Anonymous 10/11/10 11:06AM

All 3 credit bureaus make it ridiculously difficult to speak with a live person, let alone clear up any issues with your credit, it is not right at all. Shouldn't they be ready to jump out of their chairs to assist us? This is our CREDIT we're talking about here; it impacts- and sometimes screws- our lives in a major way. I sympathize with all the negative comments here about Equifax. They are truly the WORST credit bureau. I have an item that I simply want the 'dispute' comment removed. The account in which it is attached to is not in dispute. I have verified it with the creditor. Experian and Trans Union updated my reports appropriately. Equifax did not. I have had rude individuals whom I cannot understand, hang up on me. Very frustrating. I have reported Equifax to the BBB and FTC!dawnnpg 10/3/10 7:48PM

It has taken them more than 2 months to clean up a rediculous $12.49 balance from my report, even though Experian and Transunion had it off within days. Now, they report something that show no information from the creditor. No name, no address, no phone number. It shouldn't be legal to to abuse a persons credit without even letting them know what that hell for what they are responsible. Do they not even require companies claiming a balance to identify themselves? Aren't the fraud implications obvious? Next stop the FTC!Maverick3206 9/28/10 3:02PM

I have gone around and around with Equifax regarding inaccurate information. I disputed an item, telling them it was paid. I'm thinking okay now I have to wait 30 days for them to investigate right? Wrong, 3 days later the informatin was changed to reflect the item was paid....BUT they had a pay date of the exact date I called in (which was wrong, the item was paid back in 2008). They NEVER did any investigation and FALSIFIED information on my report.
When I called back in to tell them this the man got so nasty that I told him they falsified information, it's illegal and I am recording our conversation. He flat out told me he can not talk to me if I am recording the conversation (oh, but wait, they can record?) And he hung up on me.
I followed some legal advice and sent all my disputes in writing, certified mail, to the PO box Equifax lists as the mail in dispute address. GUESS WHAT??? The letter is sitting at the Post Office after 3 days. NOBODY has picked up their mail I tracked down the phone number to the EXECUTIVE OFFICES of Equifax, here you go folks 404-885-8000. YES, it's real and YES a real English speaking Operator answers the phone. I have left a message for a lady named Tamika who states she is the Executive Head of Customer Operations/Relations so let's see if I get a call back.

THIS ONE IS INTERESTING. PlEASE RAED ON...
I took a personal loan from a financial "institution" in november 2001. Along using the loan to take care of my financial need, I thought this will also establish a line of credit for my future. From day one untill I fully paid off the loan which was last month, I never missed a payment. This account continued to appear in my Equifax all along as I was checking my credit report every year. When I paid off the loan on a $3,000 remaining balance, I called Equifax to tell them that my account is paid off and that my account should say closed, paid off, zero balance. (I did this because my creditor told me I have to wait one month before they update my account with Equifax). Equifax rep suggested I place a dispute instead of having to wait for them to update it. So I placed a dispute over the phone and given a dispute confirmation number. Next thing I found out that Equifax has this account completely removed from my report. When I called to question this, she said they deleted it by the creditors request and that I should take it to the creditor. When I am talking to the creditor, they are telling me they never received a confirmation of my dispute from equifax. Even if they request from equifax to re-instead my account into my credit report and update it accordingly (paid, zero blance), Equifax won't do it. equifax is telling me once deleted. It is deleted..What a way to be rewarded for working so hard to maintain your loan in excellent status. I am not gonna let them get away with this..will keep you posted.nolo101 7/25/10 11:44AM -

Equifax, not so much! Because I lost my pin, I have to submit a letter to their Atlanta branch. This is after talking to two reps from India and answering every conceivable question to verify my identity, name , addy, DOB, SS#, secret question. Why in hell ask me these questions if I was still required to write a letter to acquire a pin #.

Never, ever buy any type of subscription product from Equifax. 1-time products like reports are fine, but the subscription products feel like a scam. I signed up 1 month of their Score Watch product so that I could tract my score during my month of rate shopping. That was fine. Lurking in the background, though, was a automatic renewal that you can only learn about if you read the pages and pages of terms of use. I should have read them during the purchase process, but who has time to read all that crap? Nowhere else during the checkout process does it say it will auto renew. Anyway, so today I see a charge hit my credit card another month of service. It took me a while to find a phone number for customer service, but when I called, I got through. I asked that they refund this month's charge since I neither used nor wanted the service anymore. I also voiced my displeasure that I didn't know it would autorenew. The agent rudely said, "It's all in the terms of use. You should have known that." Thanks Einstein. CANCEL. NOW. They'll never see another penny from me. The entire service is bordering on extortion anyway. "We have your information. If you want to see it, pay us."EffEquifax 7/16/10 7:38AM

This is quite shocking, to be in the middle of a transaction (a large purchase), and not be able to unfreeze my accounts to allow the purchase, simply because you are "closed." The era of "bankers' hours" is long gone. Equifax needs to join the 21st century and recognize that banking is done 24/7 through electronic communications. Of course we'll need some live support from time to time, and that's what we expect. Please get with it.Anonymous 7/8/10 7:24PM

Now when I call they claim he's t another branch in another country and they have no way of putting me in contact with him. I have spent countless hours on the phone attempting to resolve this issue. Nothing ever changes with them I suppose. I tried to order report monitoring and score watch back in May. The products were misleading in their description so I decided to cancel right away. I called the Indian support line, they canceled the account and credited back my $14.95. In June, I got an transaction email from my bank and they had charged me another $14.95. I called the Indian support line once again and they showed NO record of any charges occurring. They refused to credit the money back to my account even AFTER I sent them a copy of the bank transaction. They wanted me to Scan and email a copy, (FRONT AND BACK!!!) of my credit card. Are you serious!!!??? I'm hiring an attorney to sue them for $135,286.20 (plus attorneys fees). This figure is derived from me "loaning" them $14.95 a month for the rest of my life ($11,302) amortized for 63 years at a 19% interest rate. I'll let you know how it works out. :)Anonymous 6/24/10 3:47PM

Based on equifax score alert my credit score dropped 127 points in one day. when I called and asked for the reason the customer service representative said he does not know but he can put a work order on my file and gave me a ticket number as a reference. He said they should have an answer for me in 2 weeks. It's been 80 days since that date and every time I call they say they are working on it, but when I ask what have you done so far they have no answer and have no idea who is working on my file or what has been done. when I ask for a phone number or address to follow up on my case they say there is no phone number or address.faribaha 6/14/10 3:19PM

I was givin a free online acct with them after my old employee had a security breach. Then they started billing me without me ever signing up for anything. The Indian "customer service" team was rude and uncooperative, refusing to answer the most basic of questions, such as "what is the mailing address of equifax?" I can find no online way to file a dispute with them. My ID Patrol subscription expired. I can't believe they automatically try to renewal it, without consent or an email notice. "Luckily", my credit card on file had an outdated expiration number and they where unable to charge me.
There is NO WHERE online that even says how to cancel. At least I can't find it. The only thing I found online was how to renewal my ID Patrol subscription; here is what they say:
The online article said: "we will notify you by email"; I searched my email and I received NO NOTIFICATION that my subscription was expiring.
The online article also said: "If we are unable to renew your subscription... your subscription will be cancelled". Well guess what, they didn't cancel it. Instead they are giving me 22 days to update my credit card information. However, it gets more interesting, they also said, "Equifax will attempt to update your credit card information with your credit card company.." Can you believe it? They are really eager to charge me another $100 something dollars.
So I guess the only way to cancel is to call them. Like all the big companies they probably outsourced their tech lines to India and eventually China when they starting improving their English skills.
I am most shocked about how they are going to try and update my credit card info to charge me. And also I never received an email about my subscription expiring when their online article clearly states they would notify me by email (trust me, I searched "Equifax" in my Gmail search bar.. I don't delete these types of emails).
Clearly Equifax is not only a Monopoly, but they strive to make it nearly impossible to cancel.Cory 5/29/10 2:21PM -
Equifax,
Do they deliberately screw up your information on a daily basis so that you have to purchase their products to monitor and correct their on going mistakes? Seriously it has become a full time job trying to get them to fix the errors and at every attempt to revolve matters they create a new problem. What an absolutely incompetent company what are they run by monkeys? Even confirmed with a rep from FICO that they have my information backwards. Literally! It disgust me that a company that outsources our personal info to ANOTHER COUNTRY can get away with so much and the government does nothing about it. How is this possible??? I wish to put forth a petition against them in hopes of having them shut down once and for all. It would actually be less work to do that then it would to get them to straighten their act and MY INFORMATION! TU and EX has my information correct why doesn't Equifax??? Checked my Equifax credit report, and found they had "updated" my address to one I moved from 6 years ago. Never received an email notification although I am signed up for that feature. If you're on this board, you probably already know not to do business with Equifax, but I am hoping to save at least one person from signing up for ANYTHING with Equifax. I requested my one-time credit report and paid $14.95 for it. They've started taking $7.95 a month out of my bank account. I called to let them know I didn't authorize the monthly charge and they (in India) said I would have to fax my social security card, driver's license and original birth certificate. Are you kidding me??? There is no way to cancel the charges - I'm just hoping my bank will let me block them. I'm so angry about it I am willing to switch banks just so these crooks can't steal any more of my money. Ridiculous!!! DO NOT EVER GIVE THEM YOUR BANK OR CREDIT CARD INFO. I was told by AT&T that I needed a huge downpayment because my credit was so bad. I knew this was impossible because 3 months ago I bought a truck with an almost perfect score. I called the number they gave me (equifax) and apparently American Express listed me as deceased in 2004. I opened a dispute, and just got an email today saying it is resolved (I'm not sure if that means I'm alive or dead- just that they've come to a conclusion one way or the other). How is it that I can be reported deceased so easily? I would think companies like this would take issues like that more seriously.Cincinnativictim 4/9/10 12:37PM

Worst company in the world! My brother's bad debt/work history/living history, was all under my name. So when I tried to get a small loan, I was of course denied and my 700+ credit score, plummeted down to 620. Equifax is the only credit reporting company that has my information f***ed up, TransUnion and Experian both have it correct, unfortunately most Banks and loan companies go through Equifax. BIG ADVICE: Always check your credit report because no matter who you are, your identity can be stolen, misused and be in the situation that I am in. I am going to check my credit report every year from now on, it's been almost 3 months and my brother's information is still on my credit report. Good job Equifax, you should all be shut down and fired.v11111 4/7/10 1:36PM

serious issues with renewal of equifax gold star monitoring service--bait and switch. Reminder came in 1/10 of expiration coming up, but no specific date given for when expiration occurs, continue to receive informational messages from Equifax. After a year plus from initial sign-up, no further reminder ( i wasn't planning to renew), but then get alert re 1)someone changing my password (not me), and a few days later, re 2)new account opened(not by me). Called Equifax after notice of new account, and when specific information couldn't be retrieved on computer, was told subscription expired that EXACT DAY, so that's why info not available to you, so renew and you'll have your info. Scared, renewed, info still not available on computer re opened account. Called again, now told because there was a "gap"--in my coverage, the data re new account WAS TOTALLY GONE. Asked to speak to supervisor, apologized to for five minute wait,,told supervisor coming, then waited 10 minutes, then was disconnected.. Called again, helpful rep went through my credit report, said that company (credit union) I had credit card with for YEARS, had contacted Equifax twice in the previous two months--i.e. no new account she could find. (But this raises question of account that hasn't reported to Equifax, and that I don't know about). Narrative speaks for itself; was I manipulated into renewing through incorrect frightening notice of new account--and can this manipulation happen because the customer is kept on even when service expires, never being told when it expires, and then pulled in with a frightening notice? The sudden loss of the information re a new account, and the disappearance on my email of both of the messages referring to the new account, is suspicious. ..I would like to complain to governmental agency, feels like fraud. Who to?. Difficult to rate, as was dealing with 3 different reps, and last rep did her best. Ratings should allow for this....Reachability, average, but worst for supervisor.puzzle 3/12/10 1:54PM

Equifax will always be a joke. You can submit all the disputes you want, and nothing will ever clear up. The impossible nature of this is why credit is such a money making industry. Here is an example.
1. Submit dispute online
2.You will not be able to view results
3.Of course they will have you pay for another report
For anyone who has some math skills try this one. For every "1" report they sell is 14 or so bucks. All Equifax has to do is get 1 million people a week to buy it "AGAIN" and it is 14 mil in thier pocket!
I hope all the forums keep on them and hopefully one day they will be deleted as a service of credit to anyone.
I won't even begin to start about Transunion..jdla34 2/25/10 6:25PM -

Okay, so I am able to purchase my credit report from equifax.com. I had to do this because they would not allow me to get it using the annualcreditreport.com, which enables you to view a free credit report once yearly under the FCA. They will not let me purchase my credit score, I have called customer service and they refuse to let me talk to a supervisor I have asked now about 5-6 times. Equifax' Credit Watch service failed to send me 10 e-mail alerts for over the course of more than a year. The alerts, for larger-than-usual increases on credit card balances, were listed on their website, but Equifax suddenly failed to notify me by email as they had for years before.
After calling-in to correct the problem, I called again to request a credit for failing to provide the service I was paying for. The rep, Gissele, who mumbled through a barely intelligible accent, refused to credit my account, so I told her to cancel the service. She put me on hold, came back and said she could credit me for the annual service fee not used since the statement dates, "October 12, September 12, November 12, December 12, January 12." After pointing out that September comes before October, I asked to talk to her supervisor. She said her supervisor was busy and would have to call me back. I never received the call-back.
I check all my credit card accounts regularly online to download transactions, so what alerts Equifax provided was always old news. They provide an annual credit report as part of the account, but everyone can get that annually for free from them and the other two credit reporting services.
In summary: an essentially useless service that they charge money for but nonetheless fail to provide, combined with a rock-bottom level of customer service.
Equifax? Save your money and stay away.elycaen 1/22/10 10:29AM -
Yes, I'm really disappointed with Equifax too. I submitted my request for my credit report and FICO score and they got my birthday wrong (not the month or the year, just the day). I called customer service, and like so many of the people writing here, I had trouble feeling I was understood. They asked me to submit what's called a "dispute" (I did so on-line) and now they want me to fax them documents that are very, very sensitive and valuable. When I called customer service back to verify where I should fax or mail these documents, their info differed from what the website had specified. None of this would be a big deal except of course that these are the documents (driver's license, W-2, social security card, etc) that make up/protect your legal and financial identity. I won't pursue my dispute and won't use Equifax again.UnhappyW/Equifax 1/11/10 11:16AM

The absolute worst customer service in the entire planet. I called and asked to cancel my CreditWatch $7.95/mo charge and clearly I was speaking to someone from India who barely spoke English. I had to repeat myself FOUR separate times that I did not want this service. What happens after sales pitch #4? She disconnects me.
I call back and was asked to participate in a feedback survey about their customer service. Happily chose "yes". Surprise, surprise..I'm connected to a very well spoken American who handles everything very professionally and quickly. I wait for him to hang up so I can answer their survey and.....what happens again??? BINGO! I'm disconnected again.

I tried to cancel my product and I was told in what resembled English how I don't know what I am missing and wouldn't I agree that more service is what I really want. I wanted to cancel, I waited politely, and kept insisting I wanted to cancel. I didn't want to give a reason why I wanted to cancel because I didn't want to hear another pitch based on why my reason to cancel is stupid. I would rather call, identify myself, say I am requesting to cancel my service, and hang-up. The terms don't say I have to sit through a sales pitch, and I did tell Equifax I wanted to cancel. I will try this next time, but then I think they will report me on my credit or keep trying to bill me.hoffwit 12/10/09 9:00PM

I did that and got a letter back stating my address doesnt match their records and I need to enclose my current drivers license and social security card copies. Well duh, I already did that the first time. I did it again and enclosed a copy of the letter also. I wrote on it that I had already enclosed the exact same info the first time. About 10 days later I get the same notice from them saying I need to enclose a copy of my DL and SSN. I found a number 800 - 846-5279 and got a real person after three minutes holding to just get them saying to call back in 30 minutes, that their computers are being upgraded. I call BS, in 30 mins it will me after 5pm est and they will be gone. If I cant get this resolved by phone, I will send one more request certified mail and if they give me the same BS denial I will report them to the governors dept of consumer affairs and whatever Federal agencies govern the free credit report rights.kngpin 4/22/09 1:47PM

Equifax does not provide the free annual credit report as specified and required by federal law. I spent over an hour trying to access my report, and all I got was a log-in screen after specifying over and over again that I didn't want to buy any of their consumer protection products. Since I hadn't been offered a way to obtain a user name and password, I had no way to get my credit report! What a sad commentary on credit reporting Equifax is.Anonymous 4/18/09 11:20AM

It is a shame that this corporation can give out reports that are 17 years old and are not accurate and do affect credit priviledges. So I went and had these 17 year old problems resolved and now I can not get a hold of you so you can clear my credit report for my bank. You people are pathetic and should not have the power to do the things you do. We need people to solve problems not a computer generated answering service.Anonymous 4/15/09 1:53PM

Equifax SUCKS!
I was continually rerouted to their login page with no way to access a live human being. Thank God for this website & Google! LOVE YOU! I'm still on hold with Equifax but at least I have a valid number. Equifax should be reported for fraud. They took my $7.95 and didn't provide me with a way to access my credit information. They obviously don't care very much about their customers!!!!!

Same exact story. Placed a freeze online and waited 45 minutes for their server to disconnect me and a confirmation PIN was never received. Horrible website, with them forcing customers to purchase products, to get the keys to their kingdom and a live customer service rep.
This should be reported to your local senators and the better business bureau.

I just got off the phone with customer service. They just want you to pay money. They told me that my file was locked and I would have to send all this personal information over the fax or in the mail. They would not let me print off a free copy of my report. Unless of course I paid money. This is extortion. Has anyone else had this happen were they say that your file is locked.
I had no other problems with the other reporting agencies.Anonymous 1/15/09 2:35PM -
What a run around! I called several numbers I found on Equifax's website that all went to automated things and did not help. After calling the number listed on this website and being talked over. I was also told the letter I received from a lender was wrong in stating I could receive a free credit report from them showing why I would possibly be denied. Instead I would have to purchase my credit report. After speaking with the supervisor who stated the same thing I hung up. I then called this number 800-846-5279 and explained the situation to the customer service rep. My free credit report is on it's way to me after less than 10 minutes of conversation.Anonymous 1/6/09 8:54AM

The security freeze phone number worked well for me. In my case I mailed a request for a new PIN to remove my credit freeze. They cashed the check for the $5 fee, but never sent the new PIN.
Just some tips. They will ask for some sort of confirmation number. I told her I didn't know what that was, so she went through a series of security questions. Make sure you are prepared with a previous address and your most recent credit inquiry.
I was transferred to a specialist who asked me to fax a copy of the check to her and she would issue a new PIN. Hopefully it works out...bonzomatic 6/16/11 7:54AM -
Couldn't get access to my free report through annualcreditreport.com because of a security hold. Called the security department's number here and resolve the issue in 10 minutes.Anonymous 6/3/10 7:01AM

The number listed above for Equifax connected me directly to a live person. I was able to get my issue resolved in under 5 min. When I originally ordered my credit report online, I received a letter asking me to send in all kinds of proof of identity including birth certificate, bank statement, copy of my ID and SS card. I felt uncomfortable sending all of this information to anyone. After calling the number I got to talk to a representative and gave them my name and address and they said a credit report would be in my mail box in 7 days. Thank you so much for the number!!!Anonymous 6/2/10 3:59PM

I've been having "stupid" problems with a few very well known Credit Card Banks. The people you speak to at those banks have their limitations of course, but ask for a Supervisor,Why are they never available?? I called Equifax today and couldn't have been assisted any better then the way I was. Thanks to my Representative, job WELL DONE, and to Equifax for your training. J.R./ N.J.JRS 7/31/09 5:25PM

FINALLY! Yesterday, I dialed a different toll-free number for Exuifax. I tried to talk with a gentleman whose first language is not English. He demanded too much information. I hung up, frustrated and in tears.
Today, I dialed the number you have listed. I was quickly connected with a knowledgeable gentleman. He answered all my questions, and resolved my problems efficiently.
If all of Equifax were like this gentleman, they would be at the top of every rating system.newbattleaxe 7/30/09 8:40AM -
I wanted to say "thank you". I just utilized the information on this site regarding the security freeze contact and they were very helpful at Equifax. I suspect that their webpage simply needs updating to reflect these additional phone numbers.IS 7/23/09 10:48AM

I went through annualcreditreport.com to order my free Equifax credit report and also purchased the additional FICO score. The Equifax website gave me an order confirmation page with a transaction number and links to my report and score. When I went to click on the link, it sent me to a member log-in page. Not having registered as a member (since I initially went through annualcreditreport.com), I did not have a user name or password for access.
The only customer service number I could find on their website(1-800-685-1111) was an automated service that provided no relevant option for my problem and did not allow me to speak with a live person. I sent an email to Customer.Care@equifax.com and they provided me with this number: 1-866-640-2273. I had troubles getting through that day. I called it the next morning, opted for the member log-in help, had no significant problems getting through and had the situation resolved within minutes. They emailed me the necessary log-in information right away.TRW 5/14/09 12:31PM -
Thank you. I've spent two days trying to get a phone number for a live person at Equifax. My bank pulled a credit report because I'm refinancing. Since the bank pulled it there wasn't a phone number for a live person. The number you provided got me directly to a "live" person who was able to help me. Thank you, thank you, thank you.Anonymous 5/13/09 12:36PM

I had lost my pin # and was unable after wading through the automatic info system to find a human being. I was trying to obtain a car loan and needed my credit report to be unfroze and given to my credit union. I did send an express/overnight letter to get either my pin or the acct unfrozen. To make a long story short I was able to get this # and thanks to your agent Queenie get my credit freeze lifted. Thank goodness.mca 5/11/09 1:38PM

Hi. Today is my second attempt to contact Equifax. I recently learned that they have reported me as being dead and that I have been denied credit.
It is a bit difficult because I am unable to contact them.
After finding this website I called:
866-493-9788 and got right through.
I was told that I needed to pull up a copy of my credit report through Equifax (i.e. pay again for their service) and fax that in with my driver's license, a utility bill, and a cover letter stating my reason for contacting them and that they would take care of this in a couple of days.
The fax numnber is: 888-729-0083
I was under the impression that the agent I spoke with was proficient in English.nelbra 5/11/09 5:48AM -
Based on a comment on another website I called 866-640-2273 and pressed "30" at each prompt and got through to a real human and she was able to answer all of my questions and solve my problem.ksc 5/4/09 12:52PM

I contacted Equifax through the number listed on their website and like everyone else here got the run around. When I was finally able to reach someone and explained that I hadn't been able to retrieve my report via annualcreditreport.com, he told me there was nothing he could do about the 3rd party website. Yet offered to "release" my credit report directly thru Equifax.com for a small fee ($9.95). When I inquired why would this work when neither my lender or I were previously able to pull it, he replied, "Well you can try accessing the report the report thru our site for $9.95 and then if it still doesn't work, then we'll be able to figure out why" WHAT!!?? So I decided to call the phn # listed on this site and in less than 6 minutes the rep was able to find the problem and fix it, without a $9.95 fee.Not as stupid as I sound 4/20/09 3:11PM

This phone number sent me directly to a customer service rep when I hit option 3. He set up my account and I got in just fine. I was concerned about all of the questions he asked but it worked. In hindsite, I probably should have asked for some verification of his identity to ensure legitimacy of the call center. VERY disappointed I had to even go out on a limb. Their web site is one circular path for sure.Anonymous 3/26/09 9:18PM

Went to Equifax web site, clicked on FREE credit report, directs you to AnnualCreditReport.com. Selected Equifax there to receive FREE credit report, also selected $7.95 option for one-time FICO score report, completed transation and directed me to a page with links to my reports. Unfortunately, when I click on those reports, including the one I paid for, it took me back to the Equifax "customer" site with a login box. There was NO WAY TO Register and I could never receive my reports. No customer contact number until I resorted to a GOOGLE search and found this site and number above, FANTASTIC. Used the number above, got through to an Equifax rep in about 2 minutes, representative was able to provide a login and password that works and I was able to access the report.missoulaCK 3/9/09 7:47AM

Thank you for having these numbers available!!! The Equifax website is terrible. I was placing a freeze on my credit records, and on the final page (where I'm supposed to receive my special PIN for making future changes) there was a web server error. Also, my credit card ended up with seven duplicate charges for the freeze. I tried all the contact numbers listed on their site and each one placed you into a looping maze of long winded automated recordings. None of which had an option for speaking to someone regarding issues with a security freeze. I called the security freeze number you have listed here and got a real person right off the bat who was able to help me with the issues I experienced.Anonymous 2/11/09 4:42PM

So glad to be able to talk to a live person. I wasn't able to log in, so couldn't access my report, so didn't have the special phone number or access number. Once I tried this number and pushing 3 and 0, someone helped me right away and I was able to log in and see the free report I was entitled to.Anonymous 2/11/09 2:58PM

Thank you so much for posting that number! I placed a fraud alert on my credit file due to a lazy mail carrier who delivered my mail to everywhere except my home. Anyway, I have been trying to get my free credit report which should happen automatically once you place a fraud alert. I tried the website they sent me in addition to the 800# to no avail. I tried a different # and the woman gave me the number to the free annual credit report. I told her that this was different but she didn't understand. Thanks again for posting this number. After a 5 minute phone call, my report should reach me in 48 hrs.Anonymous 1/12/09 11:10AM

This number worked for me too. Thanks Digg!
They are actually pretty helpful when you get to talk to someone. I asked for his employee number and he gave it to me, no problem.
They do try real hard to sell you as many services as they can, though.Anonymous 12/5/08 3:40PM -
This actually worked. While the customer service rep was not exactly thrilled to answer my questions since I was not a "paying customer" with a little prodding they actually did help me with my questions and explained what some of the terms on the report actually mean.Anonymous 11/19/08 5:50PM

It worked!
And the human being I spoke to gave me the phone number of the security department where I spoke to another human being! And the security department human being was pleasant, polite and solved my problem over the phone which is more than 2 letters mailed to Equifax did.
Thank you.
