  • Inconsistent information, lacking problem solving skills.

I've called numerous times, and each time I am told to a different fax number to sent my information too. Also, the representative cannot explain why previous fax numbers where suggested.

  • Equifax is stupid. They merged my credit report, with other person with similar name, I called and had to identify my self, the rep. Told me i was not the person i was calling about. Banks need to stop checking credit through Equifax please. The government needs to shut down this scam of a company, that should fix millions of people's problems.

  • I had alot of corrections that was suppose to have been corrected, also identy theft.
They emailed the corrections and my hard drive crashed before I could run a copy. I called equifax and the lady called me a liar that the corrections was never emailed to me. They are horrible people to do business with. It's like they are always right and the consumer is wrong.

  • I have gone around and around with Equifax regarding inaccurate information. I disputed an item, telling them it was paid. I'm thinking okay now I have to wait 30 days for them to investigate right? Wrong, 3 days later the informatin was changed to reflect the item was paid....BUT they had a pay date of the exact date I called in (which was wrong, the item was paid back in 2008). They NEVER did any investigation and FALSIFIED information on my report.

When I called back in to tell them this the man got so nasty that I told him they falsified information, it's illegal and I am recording our conversation. He flat out told me he can not talk to me if I am recording the conversation (oh, but wait, they can record?) And he hung up on me.

I followed some legal advice and sent all my disputes in writing, certified mail, to the PO box Equifax lists as the mail in dispute address. GUESS WHAT??? The letter is sitting at the Post Office after 3 days. NOBODY has picked up their mail I tracked down the phone number to the EXECUTIVE OFFICES of Equifax, here you go folks 404-885-8000. YES, it's real and YES a real English speaking Operator answers the phone. I have left a message for a lady named Tamika who states she is the Executive Head of Customer Operations/Relations so let's see if I get a call back.

Bottom line - we need to bombard the headquarters/executive offices with our calls and complaints - maybe they will get sick of us and do something about their terrible service.

  • I JUST CALLED EQUIFAX AGAIN AND HAD TO IDNENIFY MY SELF, THE REP. TOLD ME I WAS NOT THE PERSON I WAS CALLING ABOUT. THE REP. WAS VERY RUDE AND HELD THE PHONE AS IF HE WAS NOT ON THE LINE. THE REPS. NAME IS
JACK DAWSON # SXK49 . I TOLD HIM ALL MY PERSONALS JUST FOR HIM TO TELL ME I WAS NOT THAT PERSON AND HE COULD NOT HELP ME. HE ARGUED WITH ME AND TOLD ME TO CALL THE BBB BUT HE COULD NOT HELP ME.
EQUIFAX IS A RIPOFF DO NOT USE THEM AT ALL AND PLEASE SPREAD THE WORD.

  • 3 WEEKS AGO I DISPUTED AN ISSUE ON MY REPORT.
HOWEVER, ITS STILL ON MY REPORT.
I CALLED EQUIFAX TO SPEAK TO A LIVE REP. AND WAS ON HOLD FOR 22 MIN. SHE DID NOT SPEAK CLEARLY OR WITH GOOD ENGLISH, THIS REP. WANTED TO TRANSFER ME TO SOMEONE ELSE WHO COULD UNDERSTAND MY REQUEST. I HELP ON 8 MIN. FOR THIS CALL. WHEN I GOT THE NEW REP. AND EXPLAINED MY CONCERNS, SHE GAME ME SOME INSTRUCTIONS TO FOLLOW ON HOW TO DISPUTE AND VIEW MY REPORT ONLINE. MY ISSUE WAS NOT RESOLVED. EQUIFAX SUCKS!!!

  • why are these people allowed to make a profit off of our credit reports I can't talk to anyone about my credit and even if some of you know how shouldn't this be common infomation credit places should be in every city with very small fees for use no more than five dollars for total report and score and this scoring seem to be so that banks can charge large fees they can't tell if you will not pay your bills because you may have by their rules to much debit

  • I had occassion to call Equifax today with a simple question.

I had to listen to ENDLESS automated phone robots.
I could not interrupt it; I asked for "agent" without success.
    I tried several different numbers.
The robots all apologized & reminded me that my call is "important to us" . . . . BS!!!

I am 67 years old & this is the WORST phone experience I have EVER had . . . EVER !!

I also tried the number listed on my security freeze confirmation which I printed from your web site.
    The number was 800-685-1111.
No one answers; I was on hold for over 30 minutes.

If I never have to deal with you people again, it will be too soon !

  • Signed me up on their site with promise of free 3 in 1 with a code. Took the code as valid at equifax.com and then after taking all of my info and drilling me on personal questions it finished the order and then locked without providing service. Customer service on the phone accused me of using a fraudulent code and refused to escalate my call or provide any contact information for corporate or legal. The guy barely spoke Rnglish and was amazingly rude. I filed a BBB complaint.

    unhappy 8/13/10 10:53AM

  • Horrible service. The representative who helped me barely spoke english which made me REAL comfortable giving her my SSN #. I asked her for her name and she didn't even understand what I was asking.

    Anonymous 8/13/10 9:50AM

  • The absolute worst encounter ever. Questioned me to death and said it was for security reasons. Asked for my ss#, told me I did not live where I stated I lived. This lady was rude and after I told her I no longer wanted equifax service, she continued to push, I told her I did not want the service at all, then she stated don't you want to know what your true credit is? I told her no, not if it has to be like this. I had no problem with the others transunion or experian they gave excellent service. And I did not have look up numbers for them.

    Anonymous 8/6/10 10:37AM

  • Equifax sucks. I tried to get online with them to get a free credit report and I thought I was being interrigated by the freaking gustapo. I gave them all my personal informatio, and I still could not get my "free" credit report. They must be a bunch of bozos at Equifax. How in the name of good business is this company still in business? I wonder if the FTC knows about all the b.s. that Equifax is coming up with to deter people from getting their free credit report. I am calling my attorney tomorrow. This is absolute b.s.. No wonder they have so many complaints.

    stoney 8/5/10 7:45PM

  • Equifax charged my credit card for a service that I did not order. When we complained, they sait they would stop charging card, but not refund for prior charges. I had to cancel credit card, file complaint with AMEX, and write numerous letters. DO NOT USE EQUIFAX, they are unethical, dishonest and rude.

    jlo 7/27/10 1:40PM

  • THIS ONE IS INTERESTING. PlEASE RAED ON...
I took a personal loan from a financial "institution" in november 2001. Along using the loan to take care of my financial need, I thought this will also establish a line of credit for my future. From day one untill I fully paid off the loan which was last month, I never missed a payment. This account continued to appear in my Equifax all along as I was checking my credit report every year. When I paid off the loan on a $3,000 remaining balance, I called Equifax to tell them that my account is paid off and that my account should say closed, paid off, zero balance. (I did this because my creditor told me I have to wait one month before they update my account with Equifax). Equifax rep suggested I place a dispute instead of having to wait for them to update it. So I placed a dispute over the phone and given a dispute confirmation number. Next thing I found out that Equifax has this account completely removed from my report. When I called to question this, she said they deleted it by the creditors request and that I should take it to the creditor. When I am talking to the creditor, they are telling me they never received a confirmation of my dispute from equifax. Even if they request from equifax to re-instead my account into my credit report and update it accordingly (paid, zero blance), Equifax won't do it. equifax is telling me once deleted. It is deleted..What a way to be rewarded for working so hard to maintain your loan in excellent status. I am not gonna let them get away with this..will keep you posted.

  • If you need to do business with equifax, forget about it. I placed a fraud alert with Experian after someone opened a bogus account with my SS#. Both Experian and Trans Union sent confirmation letters like they are required by law to do. Equifax sent nothing. I called to check on it and got the most rude obnoxious operator I've ever had to deal with. She kept trying to send me to a different company without listening to the reason I was calling. The worst customer service I've had in 30 years!

    Book Worm 7/22/10 1:38PM

  • I lost my pin. (My fault) I thought I ahd canceleld all 3 services. Experian allowed me to capture my pin through an automated service with a number of question.

Equifax, not so much! Because I lost my pin, I have to submit a letter to their Atlanta branch. This is after talking to two reps from India and answering every conceivable question to verify my identity, name , addy, DOB, SS#, secret question. Why in hell ask me these questions if I was still required to write a letter to acquire a pin #.

  • Never, ever buy any type of subscription product from Equifax. 1-time products like reports are fine, but the subscription products feel like a scam. I signed up 1 month of their Score Watch product so that I could tract my score during my month of rate shopping. That was fine. Lurking in the background, though, was a automatic renewal that you can only learn about if you read the pages and pages of terms of use. I should have read them during the purchase process, but who has time to read all that crap? Nowhere else during the checkout process does it say it will auto renew. Anyway, so today I see a charge hit my credit card another month of service. It took me a while to find a phone number for customer service, but when I called, I got through. I asked that they refund this month's charge since I neither used nor wanted the service anymore. I also voiced my displeasure that I didn't know it would autorenew. The agent rudely said, "It's all in the terms of use. You should have known that." Thanks Einstein. CANCEL. NOW. They'll never see another penny from me. The entire service is bordering on extortion anyway. "We have your information. If you want to see it, pay us."

  • As for Equifax, it should be against the law to make it so difficult to find a direct line to a human being. I'm IN customer service and am trying to help an elderly man remove a security freeze so he can setup service with me and everything in the automated system failed. I had to google search to find a number.

THANK GOD for Contacthelp.com. If it wasn't for your website, I'd still be internally cussing Equifax's automated system!

    Michr83 7/11/10 11:37AM

  • This is quite shocking, to be in the middle of a transaction (a large purchase), and not be able to unfreeze my accounts to allow the purchase, simply because you are "closed." The era of "bankers' hours" is long gone. Equifax needs to join the 21st century and recognize that banking is done 24/7 through electronic communications. Of course we'll need some live support from time to time, and that's what we expect. Please get with it.

    Anonymous 7/8/10 7:24PM

  • This is the worst experience I've had in along time when dealing with individuals from customer service. Rude, uncaring...and most seemed to be from India. It would be great to speak to someone who was fluent in English or it was their first language.

  • Equifax is the worst credit report service ever!! I contacted them and was not help properly. They are asking me to verify my recent credit check. I told them I haven't had any credit check form any financial firm (lenders etc). Then i was suppose to send them my information VIA email so they can Identify me. I did send my information to their email.
They told me you can contact us after 48 hours and we will further assist you. I called them couple of days later... it's the same story. they are telling me that they haven't received my email. IN THIS situation what can I do? Please help!!!

  • My car insurance went up b/c of misinformation from equifax via choice point. I only have 2 credit cards & a freeze on my SSN. [I have the PIN numbers] I got my annual credit reports from the 2 other agencies. I can't get it from equifax online. So i tried via phone using automated system. 1st it couldn't recognize my name: Marylou. Then both voice recognition & keypad converted the third digit of my ssn from a 9 to a 5! When i said NINE it changed it to FIVE.
Whatever gov't agency that governs the credit agencies should look into equifax. They are the pits!

    I Said NINE not FIVE!! 6/28/10 6:37PM

  • Horrible customer service, they made a mistake that caused my score to drop 17 points they admit there is a glitch in their system and told me to wait 5 days for them to fix it. It has been 2 weeks and the problem is still not resolved. There is a manager who is supposedly handling the issue for me, but he doesn't follow up constantly, he tells me he's going to call me and he never does. He gave me his name and ID and told me to call him if I didn't hear anything. Now when I call they claim he's t another branch in another country and they have no way of putting me in contact with him. I have spent countless hours on the phone attempting to resolve this issue. The home office is in Atlanta, I live in Atlanta so why am I calling India for this crappy service?

    Angry guy 6/24/10 4:53PM

  • Nothing ever changes with them I suppose. I tried to order report monitoring and score watch back in May. The products were misleading in their description so I decided to cancel right away. I called the Indian support line, they canceled the account and credited back my $14.95. In June, I got an transaction email from my bank and they had charged me another $14.95. I called the Indian support line once again and they showed NO record of any charges occurring. They refused to credit the money back to my account even AFTER I sent them a copy of the bank transaction. They wanted me to Scan and email a copy, (FRONT AND BACK!!!) of my credit card. Are you serious!!!??? I'm hiring an attorney to sue them for $135,286.20 (plus attorneys fees). This figure is derived from me "loaning" them $14.95 a month for the rest of my life ($11,302) amortized for 63 years at a 19% interest rate. I'll let you know how it works out. :)

  • Based on equifax score alert my credit score dropped 127 points in one day. when I called and asked for the reason the customer service representative said he does not know but he can put a work order on my file and gave me a ticket number as a reference. He said they should have an answer for me in 2 weeks. It's been 80 days since that date and every time I call they say they are working on it, but when I ask what have you done so far they have no answer and have no idea who is working on my file or what has been done. when I ask for a phone number or address to follow up on my case they say there is no phone number or address.

  • I was givin a free online acct with them after my old employee had a security breach. Then they started billing me without me ever signing up for anything. The Indian "customer service" team was rude and uncooperative, refusing to answer the most basic of questions, such as "what is the mailing address of equifax?" I can find no online way to file a dispute with them. I intend to send them a registered letter to cease and desist, and I plan to discuss with my congressional representatives their activities.;l

    Anonymous 6/4/10 7:05PM

  • My ID Patrol subscription expired. I can't believe they automatically try to renewal it, without consent or an email notice. "Luckily", my credit card on file had an outdated expiration number and they where unable to charge me.

There is NO WHERE online that even says how to cancel. At least I can't find it. The only thing I found online was how to renewal my ID Patrol subscription; here is what they say:

The online article said: "we will notify you by email"; I searched my email and I received NO NOTIFICATION that my subscription was expiring.

The online article also said: "If we are unable to renew your subscription... your subscription will be cancelled". Well guess what, they didn't cancel it. Instead they are giving me 22 days to update my credit card information. However, it gets more interesting, they also said, "Equifax will attempt to update your credit card information with your credit card company.." Can you believe it? They are really eager to charge me another $100 something dollars.

So I guess the only way to cancel is to call them. Like all the big companies they probably outsourced their tech lines to India and eventually China when they starting improving their English skills.

I am most shocked about how they are going to try and update my credit card info to charge me. And also I never received an email about my subscription expiring when their online article clearly states they would notify me by email (trust me, I searched "Equifax" in my Gmail search bar.. I don't delete these types of emails).

Clearly Equifax is not only a Monopoly, but they strive to make it nearly impossible to cancel.

    Cory 5/29/10 2:21PM

  • Equifax,
Do they deliberately screw up your information on a daily basis so that you have to purchase their products to monitor and correct their on going mistakes? Seriously it has become a full time job trying to get them to fix the errors and at every attempt to revolve matters they create a new problem. What an absolutely incompetent company what are they run by monkeys? Even confirmed with a rep from FICO that they have my information backwards. Literally! It disgust me that a company that outsources our personal info to ANOTHER COUNTRY can get away with so much and the government does nothing about it. How is this possible??? I wish to put forth a petition against them in hopes of having them shut down once and for all. It would actually be less work to do that then it would to get them to straighten their act and MY INFORMATION! TU and EX has my information correct why doesn't Equifax??? I say down with them!

  • Checked my Equifax credit report, and found they had "updated" my address to one I moved from 6 years ago. Never received an email notification although I am signed up for that feature. My husband checked his report and found they had removed his date of birth. In calling them, he was told they had to have him send a copy of his DL as well as his SS card. NO WAY! The rep was insistent, but they are only getting a certified letter.

    AnonymousOR 5/13/10 5:29PM

  • If you're on this board, you probably already know not to do business with Equifax, but I am hoping to save at least one person from signing up for ANYTHING with Equifax. I requested my one-time credit report and paid $14.95 for it. They've started taking $7.95 a month out of my bank account. I called to let them know I didn't authorize the monthly charge and they (in India) said I would have to fax my social security card, driver's license and original birth certificate. Are you kidding me??? There is no way to cancel the charges - I'm just hoping my bank will let me block them. I'm so angry about it I am willing to switch banks just so these crooks can't steal any more of my money. Ridiculous!!! DO NOT EVER GIVE THEM YOUR BANK OR CREDIT CARD INFO. OR YOU'LL BE PAYING UNTIL YOU CHANGE YOUR ACCOUNT!

  • Equifax website requires a four-digit CVV number (for American Express) but the form takes only three digits. "Contact Us" provides no way to report the problem.

    Bill 4/23/10 6:41AM

  • I was told by AT&T that I needed a huge downpayment because my credit was so bad. I knew this was impossible because 3 months ago I bought a truck with an almost perfect score. I called the number they gave me (equifax) and apparently American Express listed me as deceased in 2004. I opened a dispute, and just got an email today saying it is resolved (I'm not sure if that means I'm alive or dead- just that they've come to a conclusion one way or the other). How is it that I can be reported deceased so easily? I would think companies like this would take issues like that more seriously.

  • Worst company in the world! My brother's bad debt/work history/living history, was all under my name. So when I tried to get a small loan, I was of course denied and my 700+ credit score, plummeted down to 620. Equifax is the only credit reporting company that has my information f***ed up, TransUnion and Experian both have it correct, unfortunately most Banks and loan companies go through Equifax. BIG ADVICE: Always check your credit report because no matter who you are, your identity can be stolen, misused and be in the situation that I am in. I am going to check my credit report every year from now on, it's been almost 3 months and my brother's information is still on my credit report. Good job Equifax, you should all be shut down and fired.

OF COURSE, IT WOULD BE TOO EASY TO CANCEL IT ONLINE, SOMETHING THEY DON'T WANT YOU TO DO.

  • serious issues with renewal of equifax gold star monitoring service--bait and switch. Reminder came in 1/10 of expiration coming up, but no specific date given for when expiration occurs, continue to receive informational messages from Equifax. After a year plus from initial sign-up, no further reminder ( i wasn't planning to renew), but then get alert re 1)someone changing my password (not me), and a few days later, re 2)new account opened(not by me). Called Equifax after notice of new account, and when specific information couldn't be retrieved on computer, was told subscription expired that EXACT DAY, so that's why info not available to you, so renew and you'll have your info. Scared, renewed, info still not available on computer re opened account. Called again, now told because there was a "gap"--in my coverage, the data re new account WAS TOTALLY GONE. Asked to speak to supervisor, apologized to for five minute wait,,told supervisor coming, then waited 10 minutes, then was disconnected.. Called again, helpful rep went through my credit report, said that company (credit union) I had credit card with for YEARS, had contacted Equifax twice in the previous two months--i.e. no new account she could find. (But this raises question of account that hasn't reported to Equifax, and that I don't know about). Narrative speaks for itself; was I manipulated into renewing through incorrect frightening notice of new account--and can this manipulation happen because the customer is kept on even when service expires, never being told when it expires, and then pulled in with a frightening notice? The sudden loss of the information re a new account, and the disappearance on my email of both of the messages referring to the new account, is suspicious. ..I would like to complain to governmental agency, feels like fraud. Who to?. Difficult to rate, as was dealing with 3 different reps, and last rep did her best. Ratings should allow for this....Reachability, average, but worst for supervisor.

FTC and BBB need to shut down this monopoly or at least allow more competition in the credit scoring market. Right now it is a huge mess and they are to blame for the recession and economic problems. AVOID AVOID AVOID Equifax at all costs !!!

    3wonko99 3/1/10 3:51PM

  • Equifax will always be a joke. You can submit all the disputes you want, and nothing will ever clear up. The impossible nature of this is why credit is such a money making industry. Here is an example.

    1. Submit dispute online
2.You will not be able to view results
3.Of course they will have you pay for another report

For anyone who has some math skills try this one. For every "1" report they sell is 14 or so bucks. All Equifax has to do is get 1 million people a week to buy it "AGAIN" and it is 14 mil in thier pocket!

I hope all the forums keep on them and hopefully one day they will be deleted as a service of credit to anyone.

I won't even begin to start about Transunion..

  • I had submitted all the documents necessary for them to remove the fraud alert on my credit report. I had checked my recent report and the fraud alert is still there, which Im wondering about the whereabouts of my personal info that I had sent them. idiots.

    lefteye02 2/21/10 12:38AM

  • Okay, so I am able to purchase my credit report from equifax.com. I had to do this because they would not allow me to get it using the annualcreditreport.com, which enables you to view a free credit report once yearly under the FCA. They will not let me purchase my credit score, I have called customer service and they refuse to let me talk to a supervisor I have asked now about 5-6 times. The call center is in the middle of India so they are hard to understand anyway. This is horrible customer service. How can they deny letting me talk to a supervisor???!!! I'm very frustrated right now!

    Anonymous 2/19/10 2:46PM

  • make sure that when u are calling that they do not try to get u to try it out for another month and bill u the month after that!! Make it clear that u want to cancel that exact day!!

    Anonymous 2/9/10 7:29AM

  • Equifax' Credit Watch service failed to send me 10 e-mail alerts for over the course of more than a year. The alerts, for larger-than-usual increases on credit card balances, were listed on their website, but Equifax suddenly failed to notify me by email as they had for years before.

After calling-in to correct the problem, I called again to request a credit for failing to provide the service I was paying for. The rep, Gissele, who mumbled through a barely intelligible accent, refused to credit my account, so I told her to cancel the service. She put me on hold, came back and said she could credit me for the annual service fee not used since the statement dates, "October 12, September 12, November 12, December 12, January 12." After pointing out that September comes before October, I asked to talk to her supervisor. She said her supervisor was busy and would have to call me back. I never received the call-back.

I check all my credit card accounts regularly online to download transactions, so what alerts Equifax provided was always old news. They provide an annual credit report as part of the account, but everyone can get that annually for free from them and the other two credit reporting services.

In summary: an essentially useless service that they charge money for but nonetheless fail to provide, combined with a rock-bottom level of customer service.

Equifax? Save your money and stay away.

    elycaen 1/22/10 10:29AM

  • Yes, I'm really disappointed with Equifax too. I submitted my request for my credit report and FICO score and they got my birthday wrong (not the month or the year, just the day). I called customer service, and like so many of the people writing here, I had trouble feeling I was understood. They asked me to submit what's called a "dispute" (I did so on-line) and now they want me to fax them documents that are very, very sensitive and valuable. When I called customer service back to verify where I should fax or mail these documents, their info differed from what the website had specified. None of this would be a big deal except of course that these are the documents (driver's license, W-2, social security card, etc) that make up/protect your legal and financial identity. I won't pursue my dispute and won't use Equifax again.

    UnhappyW/Equifax 1/11/10 11:16AM

  • When are US companies going to stop using people from countries that speak in broken English. Called to update credit card info. Talked with fellow who asked me for my social security # (like I really am just going to give our that number over the phone). I figured that out after repeatedly saying I don't understand you and just want to update online. Me personally, I'm getting SO TIRED OF CALLING CUSTOMER SERVICE (for ANY company) and are unable to speak with someone who has English as a FIRST LANGUAGE.

    Anonymous 1/10/10 6:25PM

  • Had to call 3 different times with 3 different numbers! None of the reps were consistant in their questions to verify my account and the last one was the worst making me verify several accounts and balances! Long hold and reps that do not speak clearly - terrible service

    angry customer 1/8/10 2:24PM

  • Have used their credit monitoring service for years and wished to cancel service. Needless to say it's damn near impossible to speak with someone AND get them to cancel the service. Oh and just another issue to report. My credit card expired months ago and SOMEHOW they are now charging my new card even though I did not provide them with updated billing information. How can they do this without me supplying this? Will not deal with any more companies with the "spider web" business model.

    frenzy99 1/7/10 10:16AM

  • The absolute worst customer service in the entire planet. I called and asked to cancel my CreditWatch $7.95/mo charge and clearly I was speaking to someone from India who barely spoke English. I had to repeat myself FOUR separate times that I did not want this service. What happens after sales pitch #4? She disconnects me.

I call back and was asked to participate in a feedback survey about their customer service. Happily chose "yes". Surprise, surprise..I'm connected to a very well spoken American who handles everything very professionally and quickly. I wait for him to hang up so I can answer their survey and.....what happens again??? BINGO! I'm disconnected again.

Never again does this joke of a company get a penny of my money. If I absolutely have to get my credit score, I'll work with Experian. I encourage others to do the same.

    EquifaxSUX 12/31/09 1:24PM

  • Their web site will not give me my credit report. Apparently, it must work by magic, because nobody has any idea of how to fix. Calls sit on hold, are answered by people who don't speak English, and who then just drop you back into hold when you try to explain the problem.

    i_hate_equifax 12/29/09 12:53PM

  • I tried to cancel my product and I was told in what resembled English how I don't know what I am missing and wouldn't I agree that more service is what I really want. I wanted to cancel, I waited politely, and kept insisting I wanted to cancel. I didn't want to give a reason why I wanted to cancel because I didn't want to hear another pitch based on why my reason to cancel is stupid. I would rather call, identify myself, say I am requesting to cancel my service, and hang-up. The terms don't say I have to sit through a sales pitch, and I did tell Equifax I wanted to cancel. I will try this next time, but then I think they will report me on my credit or keep trying to bill me.

    hoffwit 12/10/09 9:00PM

  • It is nearly impossible to obtain your legally entitled annual credit report from Equifax. This company is terrible and the customer service/ sales pitch recordings don't help. Equifax should be shut down by the FTC.

  • I have the same problem as everyone else - TransUnion and Experian give me my report just fine, then I get a huge run-around from Equifax and they would be happy to provide my credit report online if I purchase it!!! Also, they are not reporting my mortgage and I have not been able to get hold of a live person to start a dispute. The online system will only let you dispute existing information, not missing information!

I hate Equifax. Always have, always will.

    Geolady29 11/15/09 1:09PM

  • I have tried several times to get a free credit report from Equifax. According to them, I do not live where I have lived for the past 13+ years, and none of my other verification questions were correct either. I don't know what information they have on me, but it is obviously incorrect. Also, several years ago I ordered and paid for my credit score and, of course, never received it. TransUnion and Experian have some incorrect information on my credit record also, but at least I can access it. Equifax is just a joke. I can't believe any reputable company would rely on their information.

    Anonymous 11/10/09 5:48PM

  • Perhaps the world would be a better place without these folks. I spent a huge amount of time looking for a phone number to reach a human (not so sure they were located in the US) then i hear all about a woman's kids while she chatted with a coworker before hanging up, never once acknowledging me. I called back, sat on hold for an unbeleivable amount of time, all for a "free" report that I am entitled too but still have yet to see. They're parasites and should be treated as such.

  • Tried to cancel my services with Equifax....Terrible experience... The sign up process took 30 seconds... tried to cancel the service... took 30 minutes with someone who could barely speak English... kept telling me one more question 15 times.... do not sign up for the services.... High pressure sales and lots of nonsense...Equifax never again.....

    experian is terrible 11/4/09 10:16AM

  • Terrible service. I pay over $260/year to them for my wife and I to have full control over our credit report. They have had a freeze on my wife's report that they call a "technical problem" for 3 weeks now and don't know how to get it repaired. I am trying to refinance and will now lose the deal because they can't get their act together.

Also, the customer rep's all say they are from Atlanta, but 2 have slipped up and indicated they are in India. This service is lousy.

    a10 10/15/09 7:53AM

  • Absolutely the worse service that I have ever had, even worse than Dell. Do not understand half of what was said. Obviously reading from a book. Insisted on selling an expensive service even though I did n ot want it. Easier to accept than argue with the "salesman" Still have not been able to get my credit report.

    Anonymous 10/13/09 2:28PM

  • Tried to cancel the service. The person would not cancel without giving me a hard sales pitch. After 10 minutes I told him I just want to stop the service and he said "you have to give me a few more minute sir" and I hung up. I had to call a second line and be put on hold again to cancel debt-wise (different department). He said that the previous guy DIDN'T cancel my account like he said he did.

What a pain - I will NEVER sign up with them again.

    Flango 10/2/09 3:42PM

  • This company is impossible to deal with. There is no way to reach a real human being at the customer service number. We are being asked to provide a credit number to receive information. Absolutely a rip off. Bad information being given to creditors.

    breslo 9/25/09 2:23PM

  • I have tried several times to get a credit report with Equifax. They are the only bureau giving me issues with receiving a free annual credit report. I have tried multiple times las year and thought that my "security Freeze' was my fault. But when I called customer service, I then found out the last time I received a report was in 2007. Thus meaning they owe me a free credit report now. I refuse to pay them for one when I got the other two bureaus to give it to me for free.

    Crislex 8/7/09 6:15PM

  • Found error in credit report. Submitted online request to have it changed. They changed 20% of it and said research showed the rest of the negatives were correct. I went in to the agency with the reputed negatives (which by the way never really existed) and the agency said they had not been contacted by Equifax in over a year - and affirmed that the negatives were not correct and provided printed proof.

Their customer service is lacking. To fix a problem (theirs) with my login will take "3-5 business days". Their web page is terrible and many links are broken. To try to find a 'live' person is impossible.

  • I agree with all of the negative comments that I have read about Equifax. Recently, I pulled my credit report, and my score was okay around 670. A few months later, I found out that Equifax deleted one of my main creditors which I have been paying on for seven years. My score went from 670 to 580, and I'm trying to buy a house. I called and they have been so horrible on the phone. Please file a complaint about equifax with FTC in Washington DC, this is the only was we can get their attention.

    Equifax sucks 6/25/09 11:46AM

  • I cannot believe that the Better Business Bureau would allow this to continue. I have been trying to contact them for the past week and finally after googling the number, I got the right number. The Indian man that answered barely spoke english and told me that their system is down for a hour and I need to call back. I cannot believe that this is the company that is reporting folks to companies and could totally screw up my credit and my life! I plan to write to the BBB TODAY...something must be done about Equifax! Also, the guy said that they change their numbers on a monthly basis!

  • Equifax charged me $39.95 for their monitoring service even though I didn"t request it. I got them to refund the $39.95, then charged me $14.95 that I had not agreed to. Next thing I know they had charged me $14.95 for credit monitoring. Trying to get this resolved has been a pain in the behind! I will not use Equifax again.

    Anonymous 5/20/09 1:27PM

  • This site has saved me a LOT of headache. I tried to contact via the website and the numbers that Equifax lists, but get the run around. How can this be acceptable? They control whether or not we get credit, they allow others to check your credit (which hurts your credit too), but you can't get to your own information to do anything about it!!! Even just to update! SO FRUSTRATING! I know my blood pressure has sky rocketed. This is pathetic, but they get away with because who governs them?.....exactly!

I asked if there was another way, and he said no. I gave him my ss# and then he tells me the system is being upgraded so he cannot look all the info up. NOW HE HAS MY SS#. I asked for supervisor. She did not see the problem. She said I could have given him my name and he could have tried to look it up that way. I flipped. I would have GLADLY given him my name over my SS#.
As long as our red white and blue companies in ATLANTA GEORGIA (Equifax) who have possession of our most important financial info, continue to use OVERSEAS call centers (oh by the way...there are AMERICANS who can answer the phone just as bad as them)...the fraud idiots will live long and prosperous lives.

  • I have requested my free credit report twice so far. I tried to do it online through freecreditreport and Equifax was the only one to deny it. It said I needed to mail in the request form with a enlarged copy of my current drivers license and social security card. I did that and got a letter back stating my address doesnt match their records and I need to enclose my current drivers license and social security card copies. Well duh, I already did that the first time. I did it again and enclosed a copy of the letter also. I wrote on it that I had already enclosed the exact same info the first time. About 10 days later I get the same notice from them saying I need to enclose a copy of my DL and SSN. I found a number 800 - 846-5279 and got a real person after three minutes holding to just get them saying to call back in 30 minutes, that their computers are being upgraded. I call BS, in 30 mins it will me after 5pm est and they will be gone. If I cant get this resolved by phone, I will send one more request certified mail and if they give me the same BS denial I will report them to the governors dept of consumer affairs and whatever Federal agencies govern the free credit report rights.

  • Equifax does not provide the free annual credit report as specified and required by federal law. I spent over an hour trying to access my report, and all I got was a log-in screen after specifying over and over again that I didn't want to buy any of their consumer protection products. Since I hadn't been offered a way to obtain a user name and password, I had no way to get my credit report! What a sad commentary on credit reporting Equifax is.

    Anonymous 4/18/09 11:20AM

  • It is a shame that this corporation can give out reports that are 17 years old and are not accurate and do affect credit priviledges. So I went and had these 17 year old problems resolved and now I can not get a hold of you so you can clear my credit report for my bank. You people are pathetic and should not have the power to do the things you do. We need people to solve problems not a computer generated answering service.

They told me that my file was locked and I would have to send all this personal information over the fax or in the mail. They would not let me print off a free copy of my report. Unless of course I paid money. This is extortion. Has anyone else had this happen were they say that your file is locked.

I had no other problems with the other reporting agencies.

  • What a run around! I called several numbers I found on Equifax's website that all went to automated things and did not help. After calling the number listed on this website and being talked over. I was also told the letter I received from a lender was wrong in stating I could receive a free credit report from them showing why I would possibly be denied. Instead I would have to purchase my credit report. After speaking with the supervisor who stated the same thing I hung up. I then called this number 800-846-5279 and explained the situation to the customer service rep. My free credit report is on it's way to me after less than 10 minutes of conversation.

  • I went through annualcreditreport.com to order my free Equifax credit report and also purchased the additional FICO score. The Equifax website gave me an order confirmation page with a transaction number and links to my report and score. When I went to click on the link, it sent me to a member log-in page. Not having registered as a member (since I initially went through annualcreditreport.com), I did not have a user name or password for access.

The only customer service number I could find on their website(1-800-685-1111) was an automated service that provided no relevant option for my problem and did not allow me to speak with a live person. I sent an email to Customer.Care@equifax.com and they provided me with this number: 1-866-640-2273. I had troubles getting through that day. I called it the next morning, opted for the member log-in help, had no significant problems getting through and had the situation resolved within minutes. They emailed me the necessary log-in information right away.

  • Hi. Today is my second attempt to contact Equifax. I recently learned that they have reported me as being dead and that I have been denied credit.

It is a bit difficult because I am unable to contact them.

After finding this website I called:

    866-493-9788 and got right through.

I was told that I needed to pull up a copy of my credit report through Equifax (i.e. pay again for their service) and fax that in with my driver's license, a utility bill, and a cover letter stating my reason for contacting them and that they would take care of this in a couple of days.

    The fax numnber is: 888-729-0083

I was under the impression that the agent I spoke with was proficient in English.

  • I contacted Equifax through the number listed on their website and like everyone else here got the run around. When I was finally able to reach someone and explained that I hadn't been able to retrieve my report via annualcreditreport.com, he told me there was nothing he could do about the 3rd party website. Yet offered to "release" my credit report directly thru Equifax.com for a small fee ($9.95). When I inquired why would this work when neither my lender or I were previously able to pull it, he replied, "Well you can try accessing the report the report thru our site for $9.95 and then if it still doesn't work, then we'll be able to figure out why" WHAT!!?? So I decided to call the phn # listed on this site and in less than 6 minutes the rep was able to find the problem and fix it, without a $9.95 fee.

Not as stupid as I sound 4/20/09 3:11PM

  • This phone number sent me directly to a customer service rep when I hit option 3. He set up my account and I got in just fine. I was concerned about all of the questions he asked but it worked. In hindsite, I probably should have asked for some verification of his identity to ensure legitimacy of the call center. VERY disappointed I had to even go out on a limb. Their web site is one circular path for sure.

  • Went to Equifax web site, clicked on FREE credit report, directs you to AnnualCreditReport.com. Selected Equifax there to receive FREE credit report, also selected $7.95 option for one-time FICO score report, completed transation and directed me to a page with links to my reports. Unfortunately, when I click on those reports, including the one I paid for, it took me back to the Equifax "customer" site with a login box. There was NO WAY TO Register and I could never receive my reports. No customer contact number until I resorted to a GOOGLE search and found this site and number above, FANTASTIC. Used the number above, got through to an Equifax rep in about 2 minutes, representative was able to provide a login and password that works and I was able to access the report.

  • Thank you for having these numbers available!!! The Equifax website is terrible. I was placing a freeze on my credit records, and on the final page (where I'm supposed to receive my special PIN for making future changes) there was a web server error. Also, my credit card ended up with seven duplicate charges for the freeze. I tried all the contact numbers listed on their site and each one placed you into a looping maze of long winded automated recordings. None of which had an option for speaking to someone regarding issues with a security freeze. I called the security freeze number you have listed here and got a real person right off the bat who was able to help me with the issues I experienced.

  • So glad to be able to talk to a live person. I wasn't able to log in, so couldn't access my report, so didn't have the special phone number or access number. Once I tried this number and pushing 3 and 0, someone helped me right away and I was able to log in and see the free report I was entitled to.

  • Thank you so much for posting that number! I placed a fraud alert on my credit file due to a lazy mail carrier who delivered my mail to everywhere except my home. Anyway, I have been trying to get my free credit report which should happen automatically once you place a fraud alert. I tried the website they sent me in addition to the 800# to no avail. I tried a different # and the woman gave me the number to the free annual credit report. I told her that this was different but she didn't understand. Thanks again for posting this number. After a 5 minute phone call, my report should reach me in 48 hrs.

  • I just connected directly to someone who was able to initiate a credit dispute over the phone. Phone: 800-846-5279

  • This number worked for me too. Thanks Digg!
They are actually pretty helpful when you get to talk to someone. I asked for his employee number and he gave it to me, no problem.
They do try real hard to sell you as many services as they can, though.

  • This actually worked. While the customer service rep was not exactly thrilled to answer my questions since I was not a "paying customer" with a little prodding they actually did help me with my questions and explained what some of the terms on the report actually mean.

  • It worked!

And the human being I spoke to gave me the phone number of the security department where I spoke to another human being! And the security department human being was pleasant, polite and solved my problem over the phone which is more than 2 letters mailed to Equifax did.

    Thank you.

  • This worked. I was able to speak to a human being. I hopefully got the information I need. I have not followed through so I don't know for sure, but it was so nice to have someone to talk to.
