Reading a lot of the customer's negative comments I get upset. Grant there are a lot of valid complaints but what people don't understand is that corporate puts a lot of stuff on us associates. When we have to contact corporate it does take time for even us to get a response. It's not that we don't want your business, WE DO WANT YOUR BUSINESS, but PLEASE be patient with us!!! We have to follow policies too and if we don't we could lose our jobs. There is a reason a lot of these policies are put in place because of dishonest people. I am not saying EVERY customer we have are dishonest but at times it does hurt the honest customers. Please understand that we are help to serve you, yes, BUT we are human beings too and we do have rules to go by too just like everybody else in the working world.

I purchased a shirt for my granddaughter and used my "rewards" card as usual. The shirt was too big and the beading was coming off of the shoulder so I wanted to exchange it. The girl at customer service just grabbed it and put it through quickly as a return, without even asking me. This wouldn't have been a problem except that I didn't get what I'd paid for it back. I asked about it and she said it was because I'd used my card. I found a new one to buy, and was charged full price. I went to the manager the next day and was told that when you've used that card, then have to return something, you don't get the full amount you paid back, because of the points you got on the card. I understand taking back the points, but not being given back the full refund. My son works retail, at a store with a rewards card, and he says they still always give back the full purchase price on a return. I can't find anyone who thinks this is right or understands it. The customer service people treated me really badly also, and got to a point where they wouldn't answer my questions anymore, or even speak to me at all.

I worked for Ottumwa, Iowa Kmart 70161. They treat certain people like crap. They evidently don't like guys at this location because guys are the ones who have to do all the lifting, cart pushing, and anything else that management and women are to lazy to do. The manager Sarah Stipp has her favorites and if you are part of the "clique" or friends with her on Facebook she will let you come to work and stand around while the "new guy" has to run a cash register that freezes up, go and get carts, go arrange items on a shelf because the "clique" is on break or goofing off and it would be to much to ask them. Also not to forget taking out the trash, doing other tasks that the management could easily ask of other people who are doing nothing but they don't ask because once again they are part of the clique. Then they have employees who come in and steal money out of the drawers and then the person who was using the cash register that night gets blamed for it and written up basically stating that "they are the culprit for stealing money". You are lucky if you even get your lunch break of even 15 minute break in that place. But low and behold the service desk people will get their break along with any female that is working and males or new guys they don't like come last. Also I have never seen a female cashier or even female period go out and get carts. They normally pick on one person who has been there all day doing other tasks to go out and get carts several times and also lift heavy items by themselves that is one guy lifting a heavy pool or patio set when nobody else will help because they are to busy standing around the service desk talking about how they are gonna party and get drunk that night. It's amazing how one employee Todd Swartz can play his cell phone music over the phone intercom system with manager Sarah Stipp present and she does not correct his behavior. Is she stupid? I think so. I also think there is sexual things going on truth be known. So much more but i'm tired and going to bed. Never work for 70161 in Ottumwa. They play favorites and like to talk smack about other employees. If your not a female your a nobody here. Or if your not part of Sarah Stipp's clique of brown nosers.

Hi I am currently a Kmart employee and have been for 3 years. I started when I was 16 so It was my first real job. Sadly this will be my last year because I am transfering colleges.I have been reading a lot of comments here good and bad from employees as well as customers and I think maybe I can clarify a few things. For starters the temperature. I know its a big problem in a lot of stores. Here is the truth the air conditioning is not manually controlled in a different smtate. They do however regulate the temperature.Kmart is trying to go green. The reason why they dont blow cool air all day long in the store is because that takes energy and SHC(Sears Holding Corporation) tries their best to consererve energy. We also keep the lights dim to try to help naturally drop the temperature. Also because the store is not a big grocier they dont have to keep the store so cool besides simply for customer satisfaction. This on paper seems like a good idea but because of the body heat and movement of everyone the temperature rises. Ok now about the prices. First and formost the corporate offices control the prices not the store. The reason why we dont prices match is because it was a corporate disicion. I do understand why that would be irratating though. Also, When you bring an item to the register and it doestn ring up correctly please do not blame the cashier. I can assure you that the person ringing you up did not put the prices in the system but I guess it is easier to get mad at the person directly in front of you. It is the people in the back office who put the prices in the system and they are supposed to make sure they check and make sure that everything is correct. It could also be a syestem gliche. If you are patient one of the sales floor associates can conform the price and you can get your item for the correct price. Speaking of sales floor associates and coming to registers. Kmart policy is that the cashier is not allowed to leave his or her register to look for an item they must call a sales floor associate to do that for them. The cashier is not trying to be rude by just standing there but if they walk off they are breaking the rules. Its not like they are the ones who came up with the policy and most kmart employes dont agree with this system. As for waiting for a sales floor associate to bring you the item and it taking them some time, it is probably because they are doing something else to put it plainly. Lets take fashions dept for example. In most kmart stores there are only about 3 people working the entire dept. 1 in shoes, 1 in jewelry, and one for appareal. Lets make a hypothetical situation. Say you have a shirt that is ringing up regular price and it is supposed to be 40% off well now your cashier has to call someone in fashions. If the employee in shoes is helping one customer and the employee in jewelry is on break and the employee who is working appearal is covering jewelry and the sales floor and is stuck in jewelry with a customer that employee can not walk away from the customer they were helping to assist you. They have to work one at a time.Thats usually the reason why it takes so long. Now about the employees. Most employes at kmart are usually student, people who have been there for 20+ years or people who couldnt find a job elsewhere. No matter how long they have been there most of the employees are just tired. Mentally as well as physically. Most are working for minimum wage because kmart is SHC has a raise freeze so it doesnt matter how long you work there unless you are promoted your wage will not increase plain and simple. Kmarts are also very short staffed and on a budget so a lot of time if one person calls out that changes the entire situation especially if its a cashier. Because then you have to get someone off of the sales floor to replace the cashier in order to ring up customers which leaves minimum at best employees on the sales floor. Also even if all your cashiers show up most of the time because the lines get so long you have to call for backup. The duties of the employees are also ridiculous. They are expected to straighten areas, put out frieght, answer phone calls, help customers who are in the store, and do all of in multiple areas. For example in my store the person who is working in electronics aslo has to cover toys, the layawa dept, sporting goods, and appliances all at once. Now on top of all that you have rude customers at times. One rude comment can effect some peoples entire day. In conclusion about the employee dealing with no aspirations of higher pay, being over worked, and rude customers can be upseting.Anger is a contagion after all. So is a smile and thats I like to smile to every customer rude or not. It may seem like doing that is condisinding but its not for you(the rude customer) its for that customer behind you who just got off work themselves and has had a hard day and just needs to smile for a split second. On a side not Kmart requires its employees to do a lot of training but not one time has it trained someone on how to smile. How sad. Now lets talk about this short staffed stuff. On weekdays there are very few employees in the store. It is not their personal fault that there is only one cashier and 5 people on the floor. They are not making the schedule. If they had a choice Im sure there would be more people but sadly most kmart stors can not afford more people. Or the employees only last for about a week before they leave and go to a different job.Now for my last bit it will be about the not smiling thing. If you walk into a store and you see an employee not smiling why is it so hard for you to smile at them first? Are you afraid they wont smile back? This goes both ways. Employees it wont kill you to smile because you dont know what that person walking through that door went through that day. Has anyone ever heard of existentialism? If not you should look it up and read the book Notes from the undergtound. Existintialism preaches that we are not as important as we think we are. Things that matter to us dont matter to others more than likely. So because you had a bad day doesnt matter. Even though this is basically true this doesnt mean we can be kind to one another and make the day a little better for someone else. Anywho I think Im done with my rant and I hope by writing this I have helped someone.

Sincerly, An employee from a MS Kmart

I have worked for Kmart for 3 years and I must say this is by far the worst company I have ever worked for. The way employees and customers are treated in the store is truly disappointing and unbelievable. Management’s lack of respect and concern for their own employees’ health and safety went right along with their “I Hate my Job Attitude’s”. How can a company be a successful establishment when the manager’s clearly show that they do not want to be there and that their lack of morale just brings the whole team down? I have worked many positions within the store and have seen on many occasions where management just dicks over the true hard workers. Why would any company want to promote the “waste of space cases” who are always late/always calls out, and causes negative conflict within the work place rather than those who have good employee attributes? It just does not make since to me and clearly shows the direction in which the company will continue to head… straight down the drain.

The whole shop your way rewards card, charity donations, sears credit cards applications and smart plan spill at the register is tacky and does nothing but drive away the customers. When a Customer tells you No, No, No and No that means No! End of story! Its’ pretty darn sad that employees are being threatened by managers via corporate of being written up, having their hours cut and losing their jobs if they do not get these even when the customer clearly states they are not interested. Excellent way to keep the so called “valued” employees/customers… and they wonder why they have such a poor retention rate. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to realize bad management equals poor store performance. I would not and will not recommend the business or the work environment to anyone.

I was recently employed at kmart in the springs, and by no fault of my own, was terminated unexpectedly because of a promotion that I was offered. I was working there for about 2 and a half years as a jewelry lead(just without the actual title for benefit pay reasons) for only $7.64 an hr., and was fired because of a DISMISSED case on my record from back in 2005! It was not for anything money or fraud related, in fact it was completely unrelated to anything that my job pertained to, and legally they're not allowed to base any decisions about my employment on records of dismisals. Yet hey I am unemployed after receiving a promotion to lead of the entire softlines department.

I have worked for kmart for over ten years and this new recontruction is terrible. The people who have worked their the longest get crapped on and the new ones get special treatment. They take away your departments but still expect you to do the work. Kmart needs to learn to take care of their valuable employees. Part timers getting more hours than full timers is wrong. And full timers being told they can't have raises but the full timers get raises. Not Fair!!!!!!

I have been working for kmart for almost 10 years, a hard worker I have not received a raise for 4 years, and I am not the only one.... Hourly associates bust their asses to make the company profitable, but we get no recognition the only ones who benefit are the salary managers and the store coaches. They receive bonuses ETC.... I'm really fed up with the way hourly associates are treated. Why have we not got a raise in 4 years???? When I know that salary people have received raises and bonuses... They have the nerve to tell me we havn't been making money, but that's BS because I know how much money we make each and everyday.... CAN SOMEONE PLEASE HELP US!!! I'm just about ready to take this to the media...

I am a former employee of the kmart that just closed in oak lawn IL. I wish to say that I enjoyed working their the short time i was their i was told by my former boss what i great employee i was and how dependable i was but yet since our store was closing and we all knew we were losing our job and i had a small problem where i couldn't get to work and yes i knew the policy if no call and no show you were fired, well they switched it around and said i left and abandon my position and even tho i tried my best to call due to the fact that my phone was off and called as soon as it got turned on they treated me like a nobody they denied my unemployment and lied about how long i wasn't able to call. they told unemployment i disappeared for over 9 days with no call no show which was not true i was only not able to call for really 1 and a half day. they knew everybody was losing their job and were slowly letting people go and wanted people to quit so they wouldn't have to pay unemployment. and to top it off i had another kmart store that would of hired me once i was released from the kmart i was at. and the manger gave me a bad review and put do not rehire and from what i herd from other employees they did the same to them too . and their sears holding corp is not much better kmart is a shady company and treat their employees wrong, if some one was such a great employee who came in early stayed late and worked their off day why would you not suggest them to another store.

This so called restructuring that they are doing in our stores is completely wrong! They are giving positions to people that don't deserve them and haven't proven themselves as dedicated employees except for kissing up to the managers. I am a dedicated, dependable, loyal employee and have been for nearly 5 years but yet with this new "plan" my lead title is bring taken away because the company doesn't see the need for it. It's not fair!

Hi i am currently employed at kmart #7354 in london, ky. i have been at kmart for almost two years now and have worked my way up to be a supervisor previously working fashions. our store has recently lost its store manager and the assistant manager in a month time span pursuing different jobs. i honestly believe that if kmart would stop threatening the employees to have such and such rewards cards, and this many credit card apps that customer service would be greatly improved. the kmart company itself needs to realize that kmart customers are repeats, most being old which means they dont have access to internet and/or texting via cell phone. they dont understand that eventually no ones going to be available for a rewards card. I am only 18 and a senior in highschool and most of the closing associates are, but the amount of responsibility and things you are told to do is just overwhelming and stressful. Kmart is a JOB NOT a CAREER, its not meant for us to take work home at night. I am constantly stressing out over kmart. it got to the point to where we were told to have a mandatory 3 SYWR each night and if we didnt meet the requirement we were writen up, but whats funny is the older asscociates were never written up or threatened. dont get me wrong i love my kmart family, and us helping and working together as a team is going to be the only way kmart #7354 will remain open. we just have 3 managers. thats 3 managers 7 days a week 15hrs a day---overworked. so if your in london kmart please forgive the kmart staff for any inconviences. its truly not our fault. its hard to run a store with just 5 employees. ive even had to leave service desk at closing and pulled the jewelry because no fashions ass were there. BLAME COORPORATE!!we dont need better management we need better business, advertising, and regional, and district leaders. :)

My name is Diana I work at the K-Mart store 3850 in Versailles kentucky today when my shift ended I done some shopping and when I checked out the cashier [which is really a dept. lead] treated me as a customer instead of just a worker she asked how I was and so on any way not all associates treat us workers like that when they check us out any way that ended my day at K-Mart on a good note so Thank you Sharon Creech for treating me as a customer!

My Name is Scott Burdette. I am one of the victims of the K-Mart store closing in Waukesha, Wisconsin on Friday, January 13, 2012. That was my last day of work. Since I worked there 35+ years, I am entitled to the full 8 weeks severance pay package. It has now been two months and I have yet to receive my first severance pay check! My understanding when I signed the paperwork - and yes I sent it in - is that the pay was to be paid as a continuation of your regular pay check cycle. When I did not receive a severance check on February 6, I immediately contactd the HR support center in Omaha, NB. 11 calls later I am still getting the run around. "It should post next Tuesday." "It will be 3 to 5 business days," etc. Finally, on the 9th call I was able to get through to a supervisor. He noted the reason I hadn't gotten the pay processed was that the "system" shows that I was rehired on January 15. This is total garbage. How can an empty store rehire someone? Why aren't the @#$%%$##@ idiots in the HR center trained to spot this stuff sooner? After the 3rd call, I would expect they would have noticed a problem! THEY NEED TO TRAIN THE PEOPLE WHO ANSWER THE PHONES HOW TO SOLVE PROBLEMS - NOT HOW TO GIVE CONDITIONED RESPONSES!!! i HAD TO TRACE DOWN MY FORMER MANAGER AND GET HIM TO E-MAIL THEM, TO PROVE THAT, IN FAcT, i AM REALLY UNEMPLOYED! In the mean time, I can't look for work or seek unemployment until the severance pay period is over with. I am entitled to my severance pay, and I WILL NOT HESITATE TO SUE FOR BOTH BREACH OF CONTRACT AND UNDUE HARDSHIP. i want the CEO of Sears Holdings Corporation to respond to this message. They don't make it easy to reach a CEO by phone or e-mail! Trainees in the HR department need to be fired! I worked 35 years for this company, never missed a day of work, and was a hard working and faithful employee. I'm not blaming them for closing the store, but all I do want is my due severance pay, AND I WANT IT NOW! Is this any way to treat customers (yes I still shop other K-Marts) or loyal employees?

Posted by Anonymous

It's terrible for KMart employees, too! My son has worked at our local K-Mart for 3 years now, has only missed 1 day of work and never received a raise once. What's even worse, is that they are deducting his taxes wrong, and have continued to do so for the past 3 years. Now he has to call the 1-888-88-SEARS number to complain about this to their Human Resource Dept. and guess where their Human Resource Dept. is? It's in INDIA of all places!!! He can't understand them, and they can't understand him. I told him he has to seriously find a different job.

I am a current employee at Kmart in Cleveland TN. My mother was recently diagnosed with lymphoma cancer and I was not allowed to go see her at the hospital, however a close friend of my manager whom also works at Kmart was granted permission to leave because her stomach was aching.

I am one of the victims of the recent store closing in Waukesha, Wisconsin. When I sent in my paper work in regard to my severence pay, I noted that it said in the attached material that severence pay is payed out as a "continuence" of your regular paychecks - after your last paycheck is posted to your account. My former HR person would agree with this analysis. My last paycheck from before the store closed posted on January 23. On Monay, February 6, I checked my account to see whether or not my first severence check had posted. (I am entitled to the full 8-weeks severnec pay.) To my disgust, it had not. I then called the HR support center in Omaha and discovered that they had received my paperwork on January 19, but still HADN'T PROCESSED IT! I called twice on Monday, February 6 and they gave me "a CASE number" and said they would get back to me within 24 hours. THEY DIDN'T. When I called today, Tuesday, February 7, they told me that I would't know until tomorrow because I called after 3 PM on Monday. On Monday, no one told me about the 3 PM factor. In the mean time, I can't go look for a job until the severence pay period is over and I need the money to pay bills. The support center is frustrating me, because all I get is the run around and no one that can give me a direct and definitive answer as to the status of my severence pay. I also get people whose accent is so bad that it is hard to understand them. Can't we hire people who understand English to work our telephones? I now have to wait until topmorrow, Wedenesday, to even begin to find out the true statue of my severence pay. IF I DON'T GET A DEFINITIVE ANSWER TOMORROW, this is not the only internet site with which I will share my complaint. I need my severence pay, no more way-laying, and I need it now! Why does someone have to go to extremes to get what is justly coming to them? Why do they need to make a CASE FILE in regard to a process that should have been handled promptly and automatically?

I started a job at the Kmart in Danville Illinois about the 2nd week of November of 2011. I was excited about starting this job because those i had met seemed friendly. Boy was i wrong! My 1st (and last) day was only 4hrs long and it was a nightmare! The other cashiers did nothing but complain loudly about how their hours were being cut because of the seasonal people that were hired (me). The 53yr old woman training me was the most childish person i have ever met in my life. She cursed in front of customers! I have worked in retail for 10yrs now and im a quick learner. I was hired for a cashier position which is quite and easy position. When it came time for me to use the register she said in a nasty tone of voice "now don't freak out its just a cash register." I replied back (with a smile) "i'm sure ill do fine ive been doing this a long time and i like to think im a quick learner." Well, that made her angry and she looked at the other cashiers and said "dont we have a nasty B**** on our hands here!" I only worked a total of 8hrs between orientation and actual work. When i called to quit i was given no information on how i would be paid for those 8hrs. When i called back to find out the information i was told by human resources that it would come in the mail. I waited a little over 2 weeks and a debit card came in the mail, but there was no money on it. I called corporate and they connected me with their corporate human resources department. He informed me that he had no record of me ever working for any Kmart and that i would have to call the store. I called the store about 4 times with no luck of reaching anyone. I had to call for 3 days and when i FINALLY was able to talk to someone in human resources she told me i had probably somehow fallen out of the system and that she would fix it. She took my number and said she would call me when it was taken care of. A week went by and i heard nothing so i called back and she said she was literally in the middle of payroll and i could expect the money on my card by the next friday. That friday came and nothing! So i made yet ANOTHER call to corporate human resources and i was told AGAIN that they had never had any record of me working for any Kmart. I called the store and no one from HR was there so i admit i was extremely frustrated and demanded a manager. As the girl at the customer service desk was putting me on hold she called me a stupid B****. Then the manager picked up and asked what the problem was. I told him i had been waiting for a mesely 8hr pay check that should have been taken care of over 3 weeks ago. He asked me what date did i start and i couldnt remember so i asked him to hold a sec so i could ask my boyfriend. When i asked my boyfriend the manager i guess could hear me and very rudely said "how am i supposed to know!" So i had to inform him i wasnt talking to him. He got extremely nasty with me and told me he would see what he could do and that he would have someone call me back on monday. Today is tuesday!! I just called and oh wouldnt you know i was literally on hold for 20 minutes!!! The store refuses to help me and corporate refuses to help me. They owe me money and i believe ill never see it. Its been over a month. Maybe they took it so they could buy better attitudes. I will NEVER shop at ANY Kmart ever again in my life.

The k-mart where I work at us 41 and winklers have a very desorganize system, starting from the "HR Manager", if such unprofessional person could be called like that. The way that this person refer to the employees and her duties is unaceptable. The HR manager here is an uneducated, bad mood and unprofessional person, I have never seen something like this. In my opinio the HR manager should be there for employees need regarding the place of work, and do not necessary need to have and actitute everytime an employee ask something to her. I would like that somebody from CEO take this comment in consideration because an employee won't be productive enough when they are not happy with the treatment provide to them by some managers. This company do not pay enough for the work develope in this store and besides that we need to take actitute and be unrespected from HR manager when we ask about some that we need to be done and she say that can not do nothing about our request when she really can. Why is this store and employees working under this circunstances?.

There is no customer service at Kmart
because for years they have been down-sizing
and getting rid of their best employees
so that they can hire part-time minimum wage
people over and over. These people are expected to cover half of the store. They are
ringing up layaways while the calls for jewelry, ladies clothes, etc. just keep calling. I have had so many regular customers
shop elsewhere because so many of us are gone
and have had to start over after investing many years in the store. We worked most holidays happily to keep a job just to have
it jerked away from us because we had too many years in. The people who are left may
care about their jobs but it is impossible to keep up with so little help. Please do not
shop on a holiday just to say "I'm so sorry that you have to work on a holiday." They just have to smile and say that they are happy to have a job,

i work at kmart with many wonderful people. i wish we could all find better jobs where we were treated better. the immediate management in the building is great but anyone above store management is awful. i've been yelled at by the district manager in front of customers for doing exactly what i was told to do by my manager. no, i don't know when the next clearance price is dropping because i'm a part time associate of 3 years who still gets paid just 22 cents of minimum wage and i don't receive the emails that the management receives to know what is going on. i'm not briefed on anything. in softlines the associates are in charge of freight, layouts, markdowns, backroom locating, jewelry, and customer assistance. there is never anyone around to do stock so we do that as well. hardlines has their own layout crew, replenishment crew, backroom locater, and pricing team, however; as one person i am expected to do all of this in softlines. working at kmart is a joke. i have been actively searching for a new job for over a year and this economy is forcing me to stay with kmart. here's to hoping i can leave and all of my hardworking coworkers and bosses will follow in my footsteps to bigger and better opportunities!

i work for kmart and this is the worst job i have ever had. (i'm over 50 and i've had quite a few.) the comments below are so true consistent with kmarts all over the country. our management treats us like crapola. we get yelled at, belittled and are told to do much more than is physically possible in one day. the people i work with are great. they work very hard. they are all looking for another job. starting pay is minimum wage, there are no raises. i have had 3 reviews, which were all outstanding, but no raise in over two years. everyone is horribly overworked. to be able to get everything done they want us to do, they would have to clone all of us. maintenance your area, stock your shelves, help cover two other departments because we can't keep anyone in the lead positions, answer code C's and run a register 10-20 times a day because we don't have enough cashiers, get carts a couple of times a day, assist customers, cover for the service desk lunch breaks, get called to the service desk for your department's reshop ... and tomorrow you will get called into the manager's office to be drilled about why you didn't get your PLC's done, why your ad isn't complete, and why haven't you completed your resets! we are 50% understaffed, yet management is threatening to (and has) cut employee's schedules for not signing up enough people for rewards cards and/or scanning enough rewards cards! i only stay for now because i need the insurance, which is expensive and is just barely better than no insurance. i can't wait to leave. when i finally get a new job i won't step inside kmart ever again.
