  • We renewed our McAffee in March of 2010 at a price of $75 and assumed that everything had downloaded properly. Suddenly we were attacked by Spyware and discovered that McAffee was not on our computer. Feeling rather ridiculous I purchased a basic Norton program for $40 that eliminated Spyware instantly. Upon calling McAffee Customer Service and asking for some remuneration I was told that they could not provide any refund, and all I was left with was a very bad taste for McAffee. Having been in the computer business, I had respected McAffee's reputation but apparently they have recently gone way downhill. Here's to Norton!

  • DO NO BUY McAfee SAVE YOURSELF A MAJOR HEAD ACHE! URGH! I'm sooo UPSET the download was MESSED up it SCREWED the virus scan up and they had to un-install to re-install and now we cant get it re-installed! • Why do Mcfee charge their cosumers for using their virus removal tool after paying a subscription.

I've been infected with W95/CIH.remnants virus (this is despite of the my security software is up to dated and I am currently using windows Vista). In addition to my frustration Mcfee internet security cannot remove it.

I've looked at Mcfee's website and found that they have removal tools but it doesn't make clear if the removal tools are for W95/CIH.remnants. Yet Mcfee want to charge their custumers for using the tool. I think its a big rip off.

Mcfee was not my first choice, but after a friend recommended it, I wish I have not set eyes on it this product.

  • Wish I had visited this site before subscribing. After a year of almost trouble-free service, the situation has reversed itself and I'm now one pissed off customer!

Briefly, 8 service requests in 7 days (most of them in past 3); over 8 hours spent on the phone with tech help (and another 5 or 6 hours - 3 today alone - waiting on-hold for that help; apparent resolutions are replaced by new problems almost immediately. My subscription doesn't expire 'til the end of January 2011, but my patience has! I'm done, and will likely switch to Avast!

Hard to complete ratings because, while apparently knowledgable, techs haven't been able to provide a durable "fix".

  • I purchased a 3 yr. contract for 2 computer protection with McAfee on the 11-15-'09. ORDER # CS615116675. After the installation of McAfee I started having many problems with my computers. They would not respond as well and it seems they were constantly trying to get a viris. At one point I had to contact McAfee to help correct the problem AND THEY CHARGED ME $89.00 to clean up a mess I had paid them to protect my computers from. This was enough of McAfee....I contacted NORTON and ask them to install their system on my computers to see if....(the probllem was a McAfee problem or my problem) I made the purchase with NORTON on the 7-2-2010 and I can hold a BIBLE in my hand and tell you that all my computer problems went away. NOW this would lead me to believe that McAfee was puting the problems in my computers so that I would call and they could charge me another $89.00 to correct it. I have a 3 yr. contract and I have used their system for 7 months...I would like for them to refund my money.

    MaAfee Customer Service 7/30/10 8:05AM

  • I beg you NEVER to buy a McAfee product again their customer service is hopeless and what's worse you have to pay premium rate phone charges for it! The only way is to hit them where it hurts in their pocket, and search out firms which have good tech support.

    Thunder & Lighshow 7/29/10 4:43PM

  • Don't go to the tech support site! Go to Mcafee Community. The people there seem to know more about how to fix a problem the the company does!!!

    susanherna 6/28/10 11:57AM

  • Mcafee customer support is truly DIRE! You'd think that if you pay a subscription for your anti-virus and security package, you'd get some kind of FREE phone support. But no, Not with Mcafee. You have to pay a POUND per minute! if the problem call lasts 15 minutes, that's 15 pounds thank you kindly. The alternative? enter into a kind of chat room to speak to one of their "customer service" people who basically cuts and pastes standard replies. Utetrly DIRE and i will, of course, be searching for a new anti virus company, one which actually cares for it's customers and doesn't rip them off, just as soon as my subscription is up. I will never, EVER purchase anything from this company again. My advice? AVOID like the plague.

  • I suppose we just do not get it...

I have had the old McAfee for 5 years without any problems what so ever!! now the new system comes and I cannot keep install in my printer, or scanner. I cannot control completely what issues I have.. I only get told that I have them, and sometimes McAfee takes care, sometimes they do not.

All these complaints on the net from experienced users and I have added it up to one thing::::::::

McAfee does not care, they will continue to see their product to unsuspecting people now..

I have 3 computers with McAfee, I have to buy another virus protection and why???
::::::::: BECAUSE MCAFEE DOES NOT CARE PEOPLE!!!!! ::::::::::

McAfee: Please use this posting not for reading material, but for action. You have NO SERVICE! My very first experience with you; it was the PITS. This is a BBB item, but with more detail.
Employee: NO comprehension or assessment cability of a problem/situation
    Apples/oranges mentality
I report: NO security protection on screen
Employee: You are covered until 2012
I ask: Why ask for $19.99 for a 2 yr contract, which I finally did; still no protection.
    Employee: You already were covered!
Me: WHY did you interrupt my work/email?
Me: Why did you not cancel transaction for $19.99. My bank will stop it via "dispute status" as soon as they open June 4 2010.

  • I installed McAfee on Friday May 21 -after 3 days and countless hours on the phone to people who have trouble with English- now my own computor is useless. McAfee shield says all is well yet I get constant pop ups from other companies advising me of hackers, viruses etc Even while the McAfee logo panel is displayed! These leave icons on the desk top along with pop up porn icons. The -so called- on line 24/7 tech support gets in a loop and is an exercise in frustration. Just as soon as thy go back to work after the long weekend I will be cancelling

    D Brundell 5/22/10 6:58PM

  • What a rip-off!
I renewed my mcafee subscription over a month ago, yet I am continually reminded with those damn pop-ups that I need to renew. I finally got thru to someone who speaks English as a second language and it was too painful to go over each issue 4-5 times and emerge with no clarification of what I needed. I just want my money back, this company's customer service stinks, BIG TIME!

  • My internet security went dead and after a long time on the computer with a tech they want me dto spend sever hundred dollars to fix the problem.
WHAT A RIP OFF. NO MORE MCAFEE FOR ME!!!

  • Since renewing last month, none of my file or printer sharing works even when I turn off the firewall. 2 hours online with tech support via remote link into my PC and they couldn't figure it out. They said it must be my PC. I suggested removing the program from my PC to see if it works again and it did. He said he had to bring this to development team and was escalating my problem to tier 2 and to expect a call the next day. No call the next day. They called at 4:18 the two days later, 4/28/10 with a 585 on the caller ID. I didn't answer it because that caller ID looked a little shady. I promptly received an email that they would try again the next day, which they did at 6:04 p.m. while I was out to dinner. They tried again at 7:28 p.m. at 4/30/10 and I was not by my phone. The last call was 5/1/10 at 7:28 a.m. I was not by my phone. They emailed me that they were dropping the case stating must have fixed it myself. I wrote back stating that I need to call them when I am at home, in front of my PC. He emailed back that he would call back again but could not give me a number to call him. I work from home and gave them availability between 8:00 a.m. and 5 p.m. weekdays and they are purposely calling me outside of those times. I am trying to get a refund but there is no number to call. I found a refund tab on the website but it appeared to be a satisfaction form with no refund option. How do I get my money back from this crumbling company?

    Dumb for buying 4/22/10 6:03PM

  • I have also spent too time on hold with McAfee customer service . My problems have not been resolved. It still says not protected . I have to ckick on the fix many times and finally it will say protected ,but I'm concerned about it,and VERY UNHAPPY WITH MCAFEE! I will be changing to other protection site.

  • I have been a long time user of McAfee at home, Norton at my office. Normally, I've had no problems, till now. On Jan 26, 2010, I renewed a one (1) yr. subscription for $72.38. Got an email acknowledgment for this renewal. Then late last month, I had to discontinue my dial up Internet service through Qwest, change my ISP from AT&T due to bad service, reconnected to Comcast.com. I bought a new Dell computer with McAfee installed, which is expiring 4/23/2010. I thought I would then transfer the balance of my prepurchased McAfee account, aforementioned, which would carry me through to 1/27/2011. Have not been able to get through to McAfee to do this, it also refused to acknowledge my email/password. I have decided to uninstall McAfee and install Norton soon. McAfee isn't worth the trouble or the powder to blow it to hell. W.Leigh, Boulder, CO

  • MCafee is trying to put my elderly father offline!
You think you’ve got problems? McAfee have screwed up my subscriptions so royally that my elderly father – who has just got his first PC – is going to have to give up. I set up his PC then flew 400 miles to deliver it to him. Now I face the prospect of another 800-mile round trip and 2 days off work without pay to uninstall McAfee and put a decent anti-virus product on it! I’ve been fighting this particular battle for 3 weeks with no success. Apparently MCafee think that elderly new users are going to be savvy enough to cope with remote support. Try telling that to an almost-80-year old who has only just learned to switch his PC on! Shame on you MCafee!!!! Toshiba, please note- it’s because it was a trial product on your laptops that I bought McAfee in the first place- why do you bother with them?

    Eddie 4/13/10 2:38PM

  • My laptop came preloaded with McAfee. I registered the product and received protection status e-mails with regularity: always offering me an option to renew. Since I was having no problems with the product I followed one of the links to renew, followed the instructions, thought everything was taken care of. But the e-mails kept saying my subscription was going to expire. I decided to call McAfee to find out the status of my renewal. What a 3-ring circus! No one could find my account, my e-mail address, my credit card number, nothing! They wanted me to e-mail my credit card statement to them - and they're a security company?? I did finally reach one person after hours of talking to people I could hardly understand who gave me the right 800 number to call and told me what options to choose and I have been told my renewal was on record and a day after the expiration of the initial product, the renewal will kick in. I'll believe it when I see it. How could a company fail to have such lousy databases one division can't tell from the other who their customers are? I'll go back to Norton when this subscription expires (hopefully after I get the year I paid for).

  • Terrible Tech support. Could NOT understand any of the Techs I spoke with. No U.S. support. Paid for yearly subscription, started scan...black DOS screens popped-up, could not stop scan. Turned off computer, when booted back up...NO McAfee icons on desktop or tray. Could not log onto internet via Internet Explorer or Firefox. Spoke to Techs for 8 hours...they could not resolve. Finally formatted and rebuilt HD. REALLY PISSED off. Demanded refund...would NOT recommend McAfee to anyone but Barack Obama's staff.

  • I had McAfee for 3 months, and when I use the quick scqan it work giving me a 100%, after A FEW WEEKS LATER, i did another quick scan and now it only go to 51 % and stop, I call McAfee and they told me it was not my computer, but when the company of McAfee people try to find the problem they said it was my computer window 5 software,I took it to be checked, and nothing is wrong with my computer, this a bad company McAfee.I am going to fiind someone else better.

  • What is this. Spent two days trying to find the customer service number. At least put it clearly on your site. Plus I bought a renewal card and I downloaded it. I followed every step and it said I am still not protected. I'm so fed up with this. This is the last time I will use mcafee because I can't reach customer service, it's hard to find the number, I tried everything to download the program and my computer is not protected, and I wasted so much time and money. This is too irritating.

The mistake i made was talking to there it support techs. this person had me living in the U.K. not the U.S. He went as far as to delete the old program and tells me he needs someone eles to look at the problems i was having. • I agree with the bad rap. I have been with aol for years. All of a sudden my subscription to McAfee has expired and I can't get through to anyone to clarifty and get renewed. I'm surprised that such a big name in security would have such poor service.

    RitaPittenger 3/1/10 6:00PM

  • Perhaps I am being a bit cyncical, but it does seem suspiciously convenient that the "Customer Service" link on http://service.mcafee.com appears to be broken! Especially when this is the only means by which you can apparently cancel your Auto Renewal of subscriptions!

Luckily, I did manage to find a workaround by clicking the "Virus Removal" link (which seems to work fine) and then editing the "=VR" part of the URL to read "=CS". Then I just reloaded the page with the edited URL and it worked fine.

Though it would be much better if they just got the proper link to work!

    dan0765 2/21/10 10:58AM

  • I absolutely DETEST McAfee! Could receive NO customer support and even just trying to get to the support site resulted in time out/page could not be found. The program ran scans at every startup even though I configured it to not do so (no thanks to their "service" people!)!

  • McAFEE Technicians are absolutely use less,So are their advisors It has taken me over a week to get my security back although I had renewed it well in advance.Even when they reluctantly let me speak to someone who was supposed to talk me through moves to Ist "uninstall and the reinstall " that was a nightmare .He completely messed up all my windows lost all the new passwords he kept emailing to me as my valid address and password kept being rejected.
My screen kept fillig with McAfee adverts yet the silly technicians kept asking me to type in this and that on top of them.
Put on to another technician who put me through all the same silly moves again and finally, at 3 a.m. in the morning said my P.C. was faulty or I was not following his instructions properly He would phone me next day with new instructions. He did not phone Time McAfee employed English speaking Technicians who knew what they are talking about WHAT A WASTE OF FOUR DAYS AND HALF OF ONE NIGHT. i AM EXHAUSTED AND VERY ANGRY.

details to them...When I rung Dell
they do not have this facility!so had to phone Mcafee agin!!! who are
incompetent and lack of basic knowledge led to my having to wait on hold 6 different occassons costing upteen amount in calls and getting no where!! 50 minues later the problem was not resolved absolutely useless customer team..still hve no secutiry yet I have paid for it!!

    ArggHHHHHHH!!!!!! 2/4/10 12:32PM

  • Offensive "customer service". McAfee crashed my computer when I downloaded the free upgrade that comes with Comcast.

First one had me remove program then hung up on me when i asked to speak to supervisor. Second one told me I was responsible because I removed the program that first one told me to do and hung up on me when I asked for a supervisor.

Third one kept grilling me about how I could PROVE it was McAfee that crashed it. His supervisor started conversation by yelling at me. Fifth one fixed it for a few hours. Sixth one kept flipping through a book trying to figure out what to do. Her supervisor came on and asked to call me back in 30 minutes and never did.

Spoke to 7 techs for 5 hours, not counting hour pluslong holds after they hung up on me twice when I asked to speak to supervisor. Nasty and extremely difficult to understand. And all insisting it wasn't McAfee's fault my computer crashed IMMEDIATELY after putting their upgrade on!

I hope everyone tweets their horrid experience with this horrible company. I never would have Mc
afee if I had a clue they were this bad.

When this new security began scanning my computer it found 71 VIRUSES. That is ridiculous!!! Now my new security cannot be fully installed until McAfee is uninstalled. I bought this computer from Office Depot and I am constantly fighting and erasing the 'free' software. McAfee - STOP TAKING OVER MY COMPUTER - this is not what I paid for. I can no longer afford another computer, but I do have time to constantly badger your answering service. I also have time to contact the BBB. • My computer had a virus and so I purchased a virus removal service from Mcfee, was on hold for 60 additional minute before I was connected and then they could not fix the problem because the virus had disabled the internet piece. That was explained at the beginning so the service should not have been sold. I wasted over 1 1/2 hours of my time. I have had issues since purchase of the virus protection. No support! Very frustrating!

The emails will either not go out because of some error that they have found or they transfer me to another site. I bought new McAfee software for 2009 and installed it on 6/5/09. They did not recognize my installation and therefor keep sending me messages that my software will expire 6/24/09. There is nothing I can do so I guess I will have to buy another companies antivirus software. I am totally done with McAfee. Don't buy it, don't install it..bad!

  • I followed your recommendations to try to speak to a live person by pressing the # sign repeatedly, but it did not work.

I have Verizon with MSN Premium. Either Verizon or McAfee made a change to a system, and now I cannot received the updates to the McAfee Security Center. McAfee is not accepting the email addresses or passwords. It is inconceivable to me that the company does not have me in the system particularly since they have been sending me updates over the years. Further, if the company has been accepting a payment for providing this service, they should know who their customers are.

  • Last year, a McAfee salesman tried to sell me a multi-year subscription. It took me 45 minutes on the phone with him to convince him I only wanted one year. I almost hung up, but he finally "gave in" and "LET" me buy one year. Four months ago, the computer got a virus. I took it to a tech who scrubbed the computer and put FREE virus protection on it-NO MORE PROBLEMS! Today, my bank statement showed a $59.99 charge from McAfee. I called the number listed here and they said my money will be refunded in 5 days and gave me a confirmation number. Thank you to whoever supplied this information. It was a big help. Hope to see my money soon!
