  • Ordered an item from Amazon that was supposed to be coming from DC. Thought it wouldn't take over a week to get to TN. Tracking shows that it is in CA!!! Called customer service. They were actually very nice & helpful. Here is what I learned... if you send an item via Media Mail then it will not always take same route. (So they say.) So just because you order something from say GA & you live in FL doesn't mean goes directly to FL. It could go to freakin' CA before it gets to you in FL. How does this make sense??? I'm going to request UPS or FedEx for anything important from now on.

  • Don't forget to file a complaint with USPS Consumer Affairs after your issue still has not been resolved.

Here is the link to find out who handles your consumer affairs. They don't give a phone number so you will have to google the address afterwards for the phone number but it is easy.
    http://www.usps.com/ncsc/locators/find-cam.html

You can ask customer service what your closest USPS consumer affairs phone number is, but they gave me a number to a local branch that hasn't been in operation for a while.

I don't know how this will help, but the customer service rep was very nice and made it sound like they will be doing a bit extra to find my package, but it is still officially considered "A Lost Package."

  • I called the 800 number for help from USPS to resolve a package delivery problem and only received responses advising me of their standard policies and refusal to register a complaint.

  • I have had 3 packages over a peroid of 5 months not make it from Atlanta to my city (shipped priority mail)I live only about 1 from Atlanta. Its tracked leaving Atlanta and no more information after that. You call and tell the post office and nothing happens. How hard is it to find out whats going on with a route thats a straight shot from its last scanned destination. Guess what? You dont get your money back just a customer service rep that rude. Oh and just to add priority mail is not a guaranteed 2 to 3 days it can come in as slow as parcel.

  • I just called customer "service" to request that my mail be delivered to my PO box (after vacation hold, it should have been restarted days ago). The agent set up a case for next day delivery. I then requested the telephone number of my post office, which was provided along with the information that the case was being voided. The agent then hung up on me. The number I was given was no longer in service. When I tried customer "service" again I got the "system down" hang up message. Trying again this time starting the call by begging that I not be hung up on, I was told to call back to get a coworker whose system is up. They aren't "allowed" to transfer calls.

    Customer not serviced 10/23/09 11:21AM

  • I called the customer service and they hung up on me because their systems were down and my question didn't regard their system. If they hadn't hung up on me right away they would have known this.

  • I HATE THE POSTAL SERVICE. I order 3 packages from amazon. Now we all know that sometimes the postal service have delays and what not, but they can't even admit that they made a mistake that they delivered 2 of my packages to the wrong address. Now I am out of what I ordered and out of money thanks to them. They won't even refund me my money back. Can I sue??? You can't tell me that someone on my street took 2 of my packages, but I received my letter mail and other package 3 days later. Plus, any other package i've ever gotten, I have received. That is straight bs!!! Seriously! Can I sue??? Help!

  • i have no complaint with our local mail service. but we do mail a lot of packages to MADISON TN ZIP 37115, and within the past three months we have had three pkgs. go missing..not delivered at all...most recently one mailed ( one of two mailed at same time, same day )..PARCEL POST, lg. pkg.was insured, IT GOT THERE JUST FINE. The other one..smaller, and NOT insured, DID NOT get delivered..mailing date was 08/26/2009.We have noticed that any pkg. (PARCEL POST) not Insured, or not paid "Receipt for delivery"..does not get delivered..and there is NO way to track..which means that if we want to have a pkg. delivered to that 37115 zip code, in MADISON,TN we HAVE to either Insure it..and/or pay for a Receipt of Delivery"..why should this be ? where are those pkgs. going ? who is opening them ? we never send anything other than allowed merchandise. I have given up trying to reach anyone with a brain at the numbers given as "contact" numbers for HELP...I am going to our Congressman..AND to our SanFRancisco Cunsumer Advocate..I suspect that one has to have some "political" muscle in order to get the attention of OUR USPS..NOBODY there cares a whit about customers..it is worse than apathy! Charge whatever it takes to ensure delivery of our mailed pkgs. and hire people who can do the job..take a look at their ratings for CUSTOMER SERVICE !where else would this be tolerated?...hire the folks who are laid off currently.. it can't get much worse than what it is now.

  • TWICE IN ONE WEEK LOCAL POST OFFICE 07763 IN NJ WAS NOT OPEN TILL 2:00 PM. AS A BUSINESS PERSON WHO NEEDED TO SEND TIME SENSITIVE MAIL, I WAS "SOL". SHAME ON YOU. THIS IS MY TAX MONEY AT WORK??????

    Anonymous 9/8/09 9:05AM

  • horrible customer service. They don't care to solve your problem. If they don't know the answer they will basically hang up on you. I have a brief that was supposed to be delivered but wasn't, they just told me that they didn't have any further information to provide when I asked how I could receive my mail.

    Anonymous 9/5/09 6:01AM

  • 24 hours? Yeah right. Despite even saying so on their site, every time I tried to call and do something different, it would say that they were closed. My package is getting returned because it was deemed "undeliverable" and the "track and confirm" page didn't update to say that until AFTER the offices were closed, so I couldn't stop it from being processed to get sent back. What pisses me off the most is that it's taking so little time for it to get sent back, but it took a day and a half for the package to get to my city from Chicago when it takes between two and a half to three hours to get from there to here. I'm hoping to stop it before it gets sent back to the sender, since it's from overseas, but I don't know, since I'll have to wait until nine am tomorrow.

  • While having construction done at my home, I opened a PO Box @ the Post Office. I explained that I just needed to pick up my mail while the house was being remodeled.
Without my authorization, the Post Office advised "ALL" senders of my mail that I had "changed" my address to this new Post Office Box. When I informed postal personnel that I had not authorized the change of address sent out to all my contacts, I was advised that this was done because I had filled out a change of address card. When I asked to "see" this card, I was told that the information on the cards are entered into a computer and the cards are then destroyed. How Convenient. Because of an illness,I was unable to renew my P.O.Box within 10 days. When I finally was able to collect my mail, I found the lock on the box was changed and they sent back approximately 10 weeks of my mail to the senders. Because all my contacts had been advised my address had been changed to that PO Box, all of my contacts think I moved and did not leave a forwarding address. I now have to advise all contacts to re-change my address back to my home address! I now know why the US Postal Service perpetually operates in the red. This is a perfect example of just how dysfunctional US Government agencies really are. And these jokers really think that we are stupid enough to let them run health care! It appears that the lunatics are in charge of running the asylum!

  • For the 2nd time in a week the USPS did not pick-up a scheduled pick-up. I called the USPS 800 number and they gave me the local PO phone number. As usual, they told me: " We will call you back if there is a problem, but will have someone pick it up."

  • On May 14, 2009 I went to the Bolling AFB, Washington D.C. post office and found the two ladies working there to be rude to not only myself but to the other two customers who were there at the time. This is also not the first time I have experienced this attitude from the same employees. It is unacceptable that our service members and their family are treated in this way. Please speak to them about how they treat customers. Thank you.

  • We had a PO Box payment lapse, in error, after 6 years. It was late by 11 days and there was NO WAY that they would reactivate the number. NONE. This box is used for business and is a very important address for us. The people at USPS didn't want to know about. The rules are the rules. Basically "it's out of my hands". Just unbelievable. Absolutley unbelievable. The manager at 90069 has complete authority to re-issue but for some reason she was completely unco-operative. The has created a huge problem for us and our business and this person couldn't care less.

  • I live in new jersey, ordered something 5 days ago that was sent from f***g trenton, the online tracking says it's currently in nashville, TN. I called and they didn't even have the current tracking information, couldn't help me to make sure the address was correct, and basically told me I'm screwed. To hell with USPS, I could have driven up to trenton and gotten my package in 2 hours.

  • I am having similar problems to those listed below. I can't reach customer service. I was placed on hold for 25 minutes. When I called back, the automated message said the office was closed. I made 3 phone calls and have been trying to track and confirm by e-mail a letter that was sent by priority mail. It is very frustrating. Help!!!!!

    Anonymous 4/29/09 7:28PM

  • No Help at all. I wanted customer service but kept getting automated reply? Have not been able to track a $900 insured item online or by phone? The post office certainly took my $154.00 for this over-sized box easily enough but cannot get help as to where it is? Local phone number is ALWAYS busy, or off the hook?

    thehitcher 4/1/09 10:57AM

  • Our mail carrier slid into and broke our mail box and they will not reapir it for us. Not only that but it has taken 5 phone conversations with 5 different people and much time wasted on the phone on hold and going through prompts.

p.s. this is a glimpse at just how well Universal Health care might be. NO THANKS GOVERNMENT!

    Cloud 3/9/09 1:09PM

  • The Postal Service in Paradise CA & Magalia CA stinks where delivery is concerned. Here we have what the call Independent Contractor's(the mail carrier's) who are basically allowed to NOT DELIVER your mail if they don't want to, ie; a little snow on the ground, they don't feel like stopping on a certain street and whatever their crazy reason is. Some of them are even knowingly on drug's. Isn't that just great? NOT.
The Post offices here actually lose mail & alittle too often. Ive received damaged mail as well, more times than I can count. It isn't suppossed to be that way. Our name is on the mail, it's my property! If anyone else pulled that it would be a felony. I just don't get it.
Had to share that. Thanks 4 listening to me rant :)

SOOOOOO annoyed with USPS 2/14/09 6:33PM

  • Ok - I sent an email to customer service because I was having a problem with their 'online mail hold' service. I received a response today (today's date - Jan. 26, 2009). The problem is - the email I sent to their customer service was OCTOBER 20th, 2008. Is that not unreal???

So this is my response to their 'Customer Service' email:
You have GOT to be kidding!!
I sent that email in October of 2008 and you are JUST NOW responding???
Give me a break. Let's just say the USPS customer service STINKS - and this is proof.
    Oh wow.

    starkey1981 1/26/09 9:08PM

  • Almost ever day we receive someone else's mail and vice-versa. Today, there were 2 magazines delivered to the people on the street behind us! In some cases, the address number is the same, but the street name is different. In other cases, NOTHING matches, and it's like the postal sorter decided to throw the mail in ANYONE's mailbox. AND we are lucky if we get our mail before 5pm. I've complained to the local post office about the late delivery and all I received was the explanation that I live in a route that is larger than the others. Well, if that's the case, HANDLE IT and don't penalize me just because you don't know how to manage those constantly-talking-in-their-Bluetooth-headset, baggy pant wearing hoodlums that are hired to deliver mail.

  • Never have I ever been confronted with such utter disdain for the customer. I have a lost package, a very expensive lost package, and no one will help me. Never again will I use the USPS. Pay the extra cash and use UPS or FedEx.

  • worst customer service ever!!!!

i called to report an undelivered package that was in fact delivered according to the USPS tracking system but voice prompts that can't even differentiate yes from no keep on asking bugging questions that I have already answered a million times just made me ask for an agent but would still lead me to voice prompt after voice prompt. by some magic i was able to get a hold of an agent, the agent asked for my tracking number. and the agent was able to get the numbers all wrong. so when i was restating it, he hung up.

    worst customer service ever!!!

  • The customer telephone customer service for USPS does not have any knowledge of USPS services or products. They consistently use the verbiage "I don't know" and wait for you to ask them something else... They are totally unprofessional and unhelpful.

    Anonymous 9/8/08 2:40PM

  • I cannot believe the arrogance of the USPS. If you make an appointment they do not have to honor the time you set forth with them. I showed up 10 minutes before my appointment. I was the first one after their lunch. I waited for 10 minutes after my appointed time and no show. So I told them I was on my lunch and would schedule another appointment. When I called and asked what had happened to the person I was suppose to meet they said she went to lunch late. Why wasn’t I called or told so as I sat there so I wouldn’t have wasted my lunch and miss my appointments.(which I would not do to my clients that is why I left). Then I called the 800 number and found out this is common practice. If you have an appointment they do not have to honor the time set aside. They are to have an hour lunch regardless of appointments or whatever else that is going on to run a business. I was told if I do like the way it is done I can go to court house to get passport.

  • You need to get representatives on the phone who know the business of the USPS! Misinformation and inaccurate procedures were advised to me over the phone, whereas a completely different undertaking and understanding of circumstances were proactively taken at my local post office by counter clerks.

  • I have had many problems over the years.
I have been sending my storage payments to the same address for over twelve years, and you couldn't even imagine the mail I've sent that never got to it's destination. . .even return receipt requested!
Although customer service representative Chad was very good at dealing with me, I know deep down in my heart that nothing will come of this. He was very good; patient, understanding, and apologetic.
Having been through this before, I know from past experience that nothing will ever come of it.

But I do know this. . . it will NOT be the fault of this service person. Thank you Chad.

And damn the mega-giant USPS that will not aggressively address our little problems. It appears that it is only the huge, uncover-up able HUGE cases that we ever hear about.

  • Thanks to the information on this site, I was finally able to reach a live agent. According to the tracking info online, my package had been "missent" and I wanted to know exactly where it was. I learned that it was sent to the next state (and not across the country). The agent was very polite and apologized for the inconvenience.

  • Whenever I call customer service- like today- they're really pretty nice. But it always seems like there's nothing they can do. Today, I called because I had purchased a certified return receipt just so that I could track the envelope as it's a gold necklace I'm returning and I really don't feel like having to cough up 150.00 if it doesn't get there. The cert # was not in the system after 2 days. The lady at customer service was really nice but couldn't do anything except offer a refund. I'm going to have to go over to the contract station at the mall from where I mailed this and talk to the guy there. Waste of time. Anyway, the upshot is that I think the customer service people try very hard to be helpful but often, there's nothing they can do.

    cms-seattle 6/24/09 10:20AM

  • I don't know what the problem is with the majority of you, but, I had no problem whatsoever getting to a live person.I didn't have to press any buttons, I said other options a couple of times, got a live person on the line, told her what I needed, which was the local telephone number for the p.o. serving my area. Called the number, it rang 3 times, and they were very polite and helpful. Take a deep breath people, like they say, Rome wasn't built in a day.
