Our family has the unlimited data broadband card that we use for our internet service at home since we live in a rural area that does not have any other type of unlimited internet available. About half the time we get spotty slow internet connection to the point that we can't even watch videos on our tablet or phone. Still have over a year left in our contract....wouldn't renew.

In the beginning.....it's always paradise. Promises of discounts, excellent coverage, yada, yada. nTelos' coverage actually was a little better than Tmob for a while. Gradually it got worse, dropped calls, unable to use voice commands (got so tired of hearing "I can't find a network connection, please connect and try again"). Finally heard from friends first, not nTelos, that they were closing down in our area. Called and tried to get an idea of when and never got a clear answer. So if you switch to Sprint (with whom nTelos has affiliation) you don't have to pay an early termination fee. Hmmm. So it seems that nTelos is the one breaking their own contract, then forcing you to go to their "sister" carrier. This seems to me not only immoral, but also illegal. I switched to Verizon due to the area where my daughter is going to college, and within 2 wks. I'm billed for the ETF on both our lines PLUS THE UNIVERSAL SVC FEE ON BOTH LINES of $10.94 each! On top of that, we had to buy new phones because, according to nTelos, the phones we got from them were unable to be unlocked due to the fact that they're not a nationwide carrier. Thank God for that.

Ntelos "high speed internet"? I didn't know such a thing existed. I have had many issues with my internet and overall service. Not once have they been able to resolve a problem.

I have been with Ntelos for over 10 years now. The customer service rep even commented on my account number being an old one. Service has been "ok" during this time. My most recent phone Droid Maxx morphed into a piece of crap. Not something wrong where you could turn it in to insurance, unless I was dishonest and purposefully did something to it....but it began freezing and hanging and no amount of factory resetting would help. But I digress.....my beef was that the last time I signed a 2 yr contract in Apr of 13 I was told that 4G would be in my area by that Christmas. Guess what...it is now May of 15 and 4G is JUST NOW in test mode here. My contract was done last month so I switched carriers and had my number ported over. I called Ntelos because my credit card was charged for a full months worth of service again. The rep was very polite, but she said the full amount was right..she said I was "approved to use my service through May 6th (12 days more than I even had a working phone with them).....and that I would be charged the full month. Even though I ported my number out, was NOT under a contract and had no way of utilizing Ntelos service??????? RIP OFF.....RUN....DO NOT WALK away from this company. I don't know of any other service industry....gas, water, lights, cable, that does not pro rate refunds of length of service if you cancel or switch service providers. Glad to be with my new company for less than half the cost of Ntelos service and with 4G LTE nationwide! I used to sing their praises now I will gladly warn others not to sign up for Ntelos.

nTelos is leaving our area at some point this year. But there seems to be no agreement as to when. I call on 3 different time and got different answers as to their exit plan and how it will affect my service. I was told I could leave the company with on fees on any of the 4 lines I have on May 1, 2015. I received a letter in effect changes would occur on or about June 30.2015. I call the home office last week and was told my contract would run until the year 2016! I could leave by way of Sprint for on cost but if I went to any other carries I would have to pay a fee. But I left before Oct. 2015 I would have to pay a fee. Each time I have call I have been told a different story. I am sorry if the company can not nail down their exit plans. I would like to know how they can hold me to a contract they are in affect breaking themselves. Many of the local stores in my area have already been closed and if I have a problem that can not be handled by phone I have to travel across town to one of their two stores closes to me. This is not what I signed up for when I signed a contract with this company. I am being held hostage by nTelos at this time.
I should be released from my contract at any time I wish, I have relatively new phones - I will have to replace.

When I call someone on my nTelos iphone 6, the person I'm calling doesn't see my name. I have had numerous people tell me that they didn't answer because they thought it was a telemarketer. How do I make my iphone show up as ME to the other end. nTelos tells me they can't do it. I think they just WON"T do it. I had a Sprint phone before and my name showed up on the person's phone I was calling. I use my iphone for business and nTelos is costing me money. It's like they were reaching in my pocket and stealing my money!

Ntelos is the most unhelpful company I have ever dealt with. I've been to the store twice, no one is willing to help, gave me run around. Called customer service, they were of no help at all! My phone died so now I have to pay for the line until contract runs out or buy a new phone for over $300. I don't mind buying a new phone but not one that costs that much. When I opened this account, I bought a iphone 5s and got a 5c for free! So you're are telling me I can't get a phone for cheaper than $300!!!

I have found that Ntelos cares NOTHING about the customer once he/she has signed a contract. Now if you go to the store and ask a customer about the prices of phones/ plans/ etc. they'll tell you they are "on par" with the rest of the companies and this is a total lie. My local Verison, U.S. Cellular, and Sprint stores all have lower prices for the same services or devices. I have a broken phone (17 months into 24 month contract) and all of the stores told me "buy a new phone." This is for full retail price. I was willing to resign another 2 year contract! but no, I would have to pay the cancellation fee for my original contract and for a new phone! Well nTelos screw you! I will be cancelling my contract and you can kiss my rear end. Congratulations on losing a customer that's been there for over 10 years.

This company is HORRIBLE!!!!! Do NOT deal with them. Besides their customer service, they do not know how to unlock their phones, which is a total F**king lie. I refuse to pay for the early termination if the service is being transferred. They are not worth any money. I demand a way to unlock my phone. This is ridiculous. They think people have money coming out their ass. I can't even get into my account because there's a "passcode" when in fact I DID NOT EVEN PUT A PASSCODE!!!. I told the rep this and nothing could be done. this is f**king ridiculous. Seriously... I take legal action if I have to. The fact that this situation happened abruptly is insane. I am from Suffolk. Stores already gone. I'm furious and frustrated, my anxiety is through the roof. Don't even think about going with these people. Not worth it.

My name is Judy and I'm a customer service representative with nTelos Wireless. nTelos devices are unlocked today, with the exception of iPhones and we will be able to unlock iPhones in the near future. Keep in mind, just unlocking a device doesn't guarantee you'll be able to use it on a different carrier. There can be a compatibility issue depending on the phone's modem and configuration. This link on Apple's website shows which carrier's do and do not currently unlock phones. http://support.apple.com/en-us/HT1937

This company SUCKS!! Their customer service sucks, they have no customer loyalty, and worst of all, they dont keep their word. I guess nowadays people cant go off their word even if it is a "contract". I have been having the same problem with this service since abouta month after my husband and I signed on the dotted line. And what makes matters worse is my "14 day" grace period was over so in order for me to cancel the service, I have to pay 350.00 per line! IM BEYOND ANGER AND WORDS WITH ALL THE THINGS THAT I HAVE BEEN TOLD BY DIFFERENT PEOPLE FROM THIS COMPANY! ! Please do yourself a favor and DO NOT GO WITH NTELOS! I would rather deal with at&t rude customer service because at least they are loyal and they did get all my issues resolved... y did I have to switch? U get what u ask for... #shame cheaper isn't always better

Very upset Customer,
We went to ntelos Oct 2014 after firing Verizon Wireless due to poor customer service. Ntelos had great customer service we bought 2 Iphone 6's, Galaxy 5 and a Hot spot spent $800 on new phones and accessories. I was surprised when I heard that ntelos had been sold in Dec. Went back to the store that had just moved 2 weeks prior in the Hancock Village Shopping Center in Chesterfield VA and they were gone. Called my rep that had sold me the phones and he said they had no idea this was coming. He said they received a voice mail advising them to call this number that was a voice mail telling them that they were basically fired. I hear several rumors that ntelos service will not be available come November 2015. Were does that leave us as a customer since we are locked into a contract for 2 years. I have noticed that the reception seems to be fading away as time is passing by. I have heard rumors that ntelos is letting customers out of the Contract Commitment come June but nothing official. I have also heard that they are requiring the phones to be turned back in what about my $800 I spent on them. I would have stayed with Verizon had known that ntelos was selling out on us. We maybe looking at Legal Action if this is true.

Thanks,
Mike

We apologize for the confusion concerning our recent business strategy announced in our 757 / 804 / 252 area codes. The full strategy announcement can be found at www.ntelos.com. There is an Investor Relations link at the bottom of the screen, and from there you can click on the 12/02 link and or the Press Release link to learn more information. nTelos has made a business decision to leave the Hampton Roads and Richmond areas. T-Mobile purchased the “spectrum” or air waves for those areas. (meaning they are purchasing the means that allow us to offer services in these areas) At this time, we expect to continue to service our customers in these areas through November 2015. New service, new phones, or new contracts was suspended as of 12/2. Our teams are working very hard to finalize the transition plans, as we do want this transition to go smoothly for all of our customers in these areas.
At this time your current services will see no change and we are working hard to finalize the transition plan and be able to share more information with our customers in these areas. We understand the confusion and uneasiness that can arise with these changes and look forward to working with our customers to determine the best solution

I want to do a quick breakdown of Ntelos' new $25 unlimited talk and text plus 2GB of data plan, but I hope this can give you an idea of what to expect from the company as a whole. But let's get back to the plan.

Sounds too good to be true.

It is.

Let's start. This plan requires you to buy a brand new phone FROM NTELOS and sign a contract. Already starting to sound a bit scary. Let's say you've been a loyal iPhone fan for the past few years and you want to upgrade to the new iPhone. You go to your local NTelos store, try out the phone, and decide you'll try it out. What???? The phone is free??? Zero down??? You must be getting a pretty awesome deal!!!!

Not so fast.

The latest iPhone retails for a little over $600 and NTelos wants to make sure you pay all of it. $27 a month device fee slapped on to your bill, spread out over your 2 year contract.

Now let's add the $25 plan. $52.00? You can live with that. You proceed to sign up and head on your way, enjoying this fancy new gadget you hold in your hand. All goes well for your first month, and then your first bill arrives... $87.00

Where did that come from? What is that extra $35? You call NTelos and they tell you it is a device usage fee of $35 a month for using a smartphone.

You can't afford $87 a month, and surely it isn't worth it for a meager 2GB of data. You try to back out, you try to quit. But wait, a contract.... That foul beast straight from hell, pulling you down with its biting reigns. $600 remaining due on the phone, and a whole slew of other early termination fees. It doesn't seem worth it to quit now

You weather the storm for a year, grudgingly paying off those steep bills, suffering through terrible signal on a sub-par network, you're shiny iPhone now a worthless piece of crap with a bunch of dings and a cracked screen. One year passes, and all you want is out. You ask, you beg, you plead.... But oh, you've only paid off half of your phone. $300 plus due to quit now.

But wait! You get a new phone every year! There's a new iPhone out now! It has a bigger screen! Oh how much you want this new phone! Do you pay $300 and get out now, or take a free upgrade and pay it off later?

Oh you poor fool. You pick the latter, you sign another contract, and you sell your soul to NTelos for another year or two.

Official company reply

My name is Judy and I am a customer service representative with Ntelos. The plan you are describing is called Equipment Installment Plan. On this plan, you do NOT sign a contract. Every carrier I know offers this type of plan and it is always our customers choice which plan they choose. I do regret you are not happy with it. I would be happy to review your account and make sure you are being billed correctly. You may go to www.ntelos.com. Under “Support”, you’ll see a link to “log a case”. Please include your account information and I would be happy to assist you.

After purchasing 2phones and getting home I discover I am staying on roam, I called customer service and was advised to return them because if you are on roam 50% or more you will be terminated and I was 22 miles from nearest tower, agent failed to tell me any of this before or during purchase. I returned both phones and was told I had to pay $100 for them to take them back ,what ripoff,, I wouldn't recommend them to anyone,,horrible customer service,,,Ntelos is a RIPPOFF.

Official company reply

My name is Judy and I am a customer service representative with Ntelos. nTelos offers a 100% guarantee on our service. If you try it and it doesn't work, just return the equipment within 14 days and you will be refunded the cost of the phones and would only owe the $50.00 per phone restocking fee. I do apologize a representative didn't advise you in advance of this fee. You were not charge for your usage, however. Once a phone has been activated, we can not longer sell it as new. This is similar to the depreciation charged the minute you drive a new car off the lot. I would be happy to review your Ntelos account. Please log a case by going to www.ntelos.com. Under “Support”, you’ll see a link to “log a case”. Please include your account information and I would be happy to assist you.

When my contract ends, I am DONE with this company. I have 2 phones (Samsung Gal 3) and I pay 170 dollars a month. Both phones will NOT charge. One has a cracked screen so it voided the warranty and the other one, and I quote what the customer service guy said, " I can tell just looking at it and not plugging it in that it has been mangled with." What!!!!!!!!!Then he said this is a common problem. If its a common problem don't you think that merits an issue with the manufacturer...Yea some genius you have working for you. I have NOT mangled it, so now I have two phones that are still under warranty and can't use them. I HATE this company and can't wait to go to AT&T!!!!! Oh and the guy didn't even want to wait on me...he made a big deal out of it!

Posted by Anonymous

Probably has to be the worst customer service in cell phone history. Firs off there in store personell are the least knowledgeable people I have ever had to deal with. They don't try to help solve problem just leave you stuck with a problem no solution. Second is the service witch is partially my fault for ever agreeing to get there service they said they would be upgrading to 4g soon what they didn't say is I would have to get a new phone. Odd because other carriers have the same phone with 4G and I know that my phone is 4g capible. Hince terrible, unknowledgeable staff.

Posted by msmcarter

The service is worse than sprint if that is even possible. I made the mistake of switching to them 2 months ago from AT&T. Was told the bill would be cheaper, but of course it wasn't. Now they are closing in the Richmond area, but this may be a blessing. Can't wait to be rid of them.

Posted by Jump'n Jack Flash

I waited for NTelos to get 4G LTE and I was one of the first in Richmond to get it. The service was fine for about the first 50 days. Then I couldn't connect. It ran slow. One night I had enough, researched networks, went with T-Mobile. Their Network is a rocket! BTW, I'm not a heavy user, but the service rep's claim that the average data use is only 3 gig is a pile of crap! Maybe if you average it in with feature phones, but not smartphone users! Glad I made the switch. Paying the ETF was very much worth it.

I made the mistake of changing my cell company to NTELOS.( A big DUMB mistake)! MY CONTRACT WILL BE OVER IN FEB. 2015 THANK GOODNESS!
I called Tmobile today and I was told that my account had been turned over to collections ! The folks at Ntelos bought out my contract 2 years ago??? I called the collection company and was informed that my name, ss number address or anything else associated with the phone numbers DID NOT have any of my personal info on their reports!
I only wish that I could prove what my gut is telling me what has happened!
You can bet you last dollar that I would NEVER recommend them to wipe my dogs butt.
Almost forgot...... they refused ti fix one of my iphones.

Posted by tehone

I tried out their service earlier this year since I had heard great things. I get the service and go on vacation in myrtle beach and I either get no signal or 1x the whole time. The agent told me I should get LTE since sprint has it in the area. So I go to cancel before the period is up and I get charged a full month plus activation. I call the customer service line and they can't do anything and pawn me off on the store. The store can't do anything then they tell me to call customer service. Next thing I know I'm in collections with them for an amount I should not have to pay. I thought about giving them a try again since they have the LTE contract with sprint again but I'm not sure about that now.

My husband and I left AT&T (our bill ended up being higher than we were quoted so we wanted out. AT&T didnt charge us any fees to terminate service) We went with Ntelos because the monthly fee seemed reasonable and the sales reps talked about how great they are and how they use several other companies towers. Well, they didnt tell us that they dont use the towers everywhere and they dont use them for data. We told them we travel alot and my husband uses his phone 24/7 for work. They assured me we would be fine. Service was great for the first month, but we've had nothing but problems ever since. I have made several calls to technical support where I'm given the same run down EVERY SINGLE TIME-I'm always told "Everything is working fine in your area" or the famous "I understand." Well everything is not fine. I called the other night to find out what our early termination fee would be for both lines I was expecting about $150-$175 each line....nope! $350 each line!!! Outrageous..they dont have the service to justify charging that much. I explained to the lady we cant use internet half the time and get dropped calls left and right. Her response "i understand". No you dont. She said I would need to open a ticket with technical support-I explained I have talked to technical support the past 3 months and her reply was "we do not have any records of you contacting them" Really? So now when I call, notes arent entered into the system..how convenient. The biggest kicker of them all is when I said I would pay $350 for one line if they'll waive the other. I got an immediate "NO"...I said you cant waive it or you wont? She replied "We won't." I hate this company and wish I had never signed with them. We're at the point of saying screw it and turning the phones off anyway. No point in having them when we cant use them. Word of advice, pay more and go with a legit company!

Posted by stinkpalm71

The website is a joke too. Every time I have gone to the "pay your bill" prompt the page never opens! This has been happening for about the last 3 months. I was thinking since the website won't let me pay my bill, am I required to pay my bill? The only reason I haven't canceled is because the fee is so outrageous.

NTelos makes ATT's customer service look great. Do not deal with these people. There customer service sucks and they are totally unhelpful even when they made the mistake. Again DO NOT use NTelos unless you want really bad customer service.

i have unlimited internet but i get this pop up that said you are at 80% and you will go to dial speed when you reach 100% but my just get ever slower then dial so if i have unlimited how do this work

Official company reply

My name is Judy and I am customer service representative with Ntelos. About 8% of our data card and smartphone customers use over 60% of the total data traffic on our network. Some of these customers use as much as 250GB a month. Our average customer uses around 3GB per month. We are trying to keep the data lines available to provide the best experience for the largest number of customers. Once you have reached 80% of your plan allowances you will be notified by being directed to an nTelos website on your next internet session. Since your service includes an unlimited usage plan, you are allotted 10GB of data per month, after that 10GB, you will experience the slower data speeds. This is not to say that we are always limiting your speeds. The majority of this data usage is streaming video; YouTube accounts for the most data usage. These types of applications consume a lot of bandwidth in a short amount of time. Netflix or other movie apps consume a lot of bandwidth as well. In our contract, we state that our Fair Usage Policy allows Unlimited Customers 10GB of usage. Once you go over that amount, you are subject to throttling. You are not being turned off or charged overages; you are just connecting at a lesser speed. Please send an email to [email protected] with your account information if you'd like further information.
