Good evening.
I'm currently watching the UCONN Alabama NCAA Final Four game and whoever is working the sound board in the Truck, needs to get a new job.
I'm not a sound pro, but for several years, I did run sound at one of the biggest nightclubs in the world ( Billy Bobs Texas ) and I know a little bit about how to "mix" sound.
Just like your guys do, we'd wire up the band and run sound check, to make sure everything worked.
We'd run as many as 64 channels and once the show started, if the drums were to loud, we'd pull that fader down a little, or if the lead vocal needed to come up, we'd slide the fader up on that channel.
And once the show started, we would rarely adjust the two mains ( right and left ) for all 64 channels.
But what your "sound guy" is doing on this broadcast, is quite obvious and extremely annoying.
Every time the crowd goes wild, and they cheer and scream etc, he turns down the mains and NOT just the channels for the crowd mics.
So ALL of the announcers voices and everything else, goes down as well and it's VERY obvious.
The fact is a guy could walk in off the street and run the two mains UP and down and UOP and down with NO regard for turning down the proper channels.
Then once the crowd noise goes back down, your "sound guy" slides the fader for the mains back up, which obviously affects ALL of the channels.
The effect is like me having friends over for the game and every time the crowd noise goes up, I grab the remote and turn down the entire volume on the TV, which makes the announcers voices also go down.
So your "Sound Guy" is obviously just riding the main faders and he's not actually "Mixing" the sound.
Hopefully, this makes sense but if not, Please send this message to your head Engineer in the truck, so the issue can be fixed BEFORE the rest of the games.
I reported this very same issue last year during another game and Ihaven;'t noticed it being a problem again, until tonight's game,
Otherwise, you guys are ALL doing a GREAT job, especially Ernie, Kennie and CHUCK "E".
Those guys are like a great Preacher. He always gives you ALL the facts, but he also throws in some humor, to keep you interested and make you smile.
Thanks,
Don
