  • Tim and Tammy: First you need to send a RESPA certified letter to CitiMortgage Inc. This is very important. Mail to: Attention: Executive Response Unit, 1000 Technology Drive O'Fallon, MO 63368. (Sample formats of a RESPA letter avaiable on line.)
Mail letter certified requesting a return receipt for your files. Also, document every phone conversation, date, time, employee name and number. Keep records of all topics discussed and write down details of EVERY conversation. Also, DO NOT move from your home because homeowners have legal rights! The lenders trustee assigned to over see the property may attempt to bully homeowners. Do not accept any options offered. Citi will be required by court order which allows you more time to pursue legal action. The court order also involves additional expenses for lenders. Their goal is to offer to "pay you to move" out a.s.a.p. as foreclosured homes lose value the longer people stay in it. (Generally, as people tend to trash the home.) Be prepared to move by moving possessions not required to stay in your home. Your belongings cannot legally be placed on the street without an offical court document. The Truth in Lending laws and additional laws enforced to protect home owners are Federal Laws so it is difficult to find attroneys that are willing to work with foreclosures-without charges large fees.
Most will speak to you if you have general questions briefly over the phone. There is a Class Action Law Suit in process filed in May, 2010. There are also news reports and WhistleBlowers speaking up on the behalf of homeowners. Do not resign to becoming homeless easily. We acted in good faith and deserve to be treated fairly and with respect. I am not an atrroney but have done considerable research and have made many other connections with so many experiencing the same issues.

Lenders are foreclosing in record numbers months in hopes of receiving more bail out money from the taxpayers. Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac already reported huge losses due to foreclosures. Dahhh...If they would offer options to current homeowners, we would gladly keep our homes! This is a big scam. Sad thing is...the consumer will pay for this mess again. Big lenders run America. Washington is slow to get invovled so homeowners are forced to face this demon on our own.

  • I have been going through the same as all of you. My modification started on 6-09. i was denied on 8-17-2010. they say i owe 5400.00, payable on 9-6-2010 or they will start foreclosure. What do I do? Fight back! I'm not sure how yet, but I will find a way.

  • The nose attached to CitiMortgage is growing longer each day as they foreclosure on Americans and continue to outsource Citi jobs to India! President Obama take a strong stand against this huge scam. Americans deserve better treatment. We acted in good faith, CitiMortgage is a big fat criminal. Send e mails to the White House, major newspapers, TV stations, Congress, everyone who will be running for an elected office. We have been pushed around enough.

  • Keep faith that united all CitiMortgage victims will prevail. Remember "The bigger they are-the harder they fall. Its off to court they go, go, go. The "New Citi" CEO (Vikram Pandit) must be in a coma to not see that his future is going to be similar to Ernie Madoff. Big banks cannot be allowed to continue abusing power. File Class Action Cases and individual law suits. Also, stay in your home. Your legal leverage is reduced if you move out before receiving a court order. Fight back and stay strong. Homeowners have legal rights, join forces to get laws enforced. God will bless America again.

  • I am a Citi 2nd Mtg holder and I am discusted with the poor service that I have received from Citimtg. I have been waiting on a modification, that they told me that I qualified for in December 2009 and now they just told me that they charged off my account. I have sent paperwork, after paperwork to confirm my situation and I kept in constant contact with the bank. I am now going to have to seek an attorney

  • As I listen to Citi's CEO it makes me so sad as I have been lead on and I believe I have been scammed by Citi. For a year I was told I met all the qualiifications for the HAMP Program. I was widowed my income was significately lowered as a result. " Mrs Sabo you meet all the guidelines we are behinded in the paperwork just keep making the payments and keep calling"
How can you tear up my life and the lives of so many be honest. You should have told me from day one that you had no intention of using the goverment funds for the home owners in need. YOU LIED!!!!

  • Hopefully, someone associated with a government or legal authority will view the site and help thousands of home owners losing their battle with the powerful Citi Bank. Is anyone interested in making millions of dollars by exposing this unjustice to the whole country? I wish I had the legal knowledge to fight this terrible situation for families at the mercy of such crooks. Ennie Madoff is paying for his crimes. Keep believing that Citimortgage leaders will go to prison someday for ripping off America!

Stop This From Happening 8/30/10 10:30AM

  • Citi Mortgage purpose is to confuse, mislead and lie. Employees are instructed to tell mortgage holders that their loan is fine, although they are aware that foreclosure is in process. Paperwork is lost and information is not provided. They leave customers on hold forever, transfer the call, only to disconnect the caller desperately seeking assistance. Stop this illegal company. String the CEO's up and force them to answer to higher authorities.

  • This is the worst company and the most powerful company I have experienced. Citi Mortgage need to be held accountable for stealing and unfair practices. Where are the auditors, how can this be legal? I lost everything I worked for and am 56 years old. Am I supposed to just kill myself because my government cares more about supporting BIG business and going on one extended vacation after another more than doing their job we elected them to do? Unbelievable!!!!

  • Citimortgage makes its own rules. I am one of millions who have had a terrible experience with this company. They never follow through with their procedures and lie! Whare is the regulating government agenies in this home modification process our Pres. assured us would monitor large banks!! I too could write a book detailing my nightmare with Citimortgage for the past year!

We all need to stand up and sue. Go to the media, picket Citimortgage, contact elected officals to tell your story. This is criminal, a class action case is warranted. Most of Citimortgage leadership, and many employees are from from India. There is no loyality to the US. Also, I know of several people whom have received home mods, preventing foreclosures AFTER they contacted the media! One person CAN change this tragedy for many others. The same rules should apply to everyone, Citimortgage, Fannie Mae etc. DO NOT want to attempt to work with people to keep their homes. We have no other choice than to stand up to these bullies! Contact me at nancypullum@aol.com. I am committed to confronting this huge bank in a legal procedure. Let your voices be heard. The taxpayers paid to bail them out. Citimortgage needs to answer to Washington for their crimes against home owners. PLEASE DON'T ROLL OVER AND ALLOW THEM TO TAKE AMERICA TO INDIA! We can help many other families from living in the streets. Congress is not going to act unless we join forces. This is an election year.

  • I called Citi to get a reduction in my interest rate, which was 6 3/8% and the current rate at the time was 5 %. Citi bought my loan from another leder, I also had over a 800 credit score... Citi told me I qualify for a Modifacation. We started with the "wonderful" HAMP program and got strung along...went on this program for 1 year Citi telling us "You are in the final Stages Of your Modifacation" Now we find out our payments were considered only partial payments and we got a default letter...we were paying what they told us to pay!!! Then they told us that we did qualify for a Citi loan modification... NOW my principal balance went up again since we were paying what they told us to pay on the Feb contract...now we hired an attorney since our credit is destroyed even though we pay our bills. Class action is a waste of time and money...letters don't get you anywhere.. Did this process twice, I am getting calls 3 times a day 7 days a week harassing me that I am deliquent when I am on time in a Modifacation. Yes, our principal balance is still going up and our credit going down...even though we make payments.
Now I have been in second modification for over 10 months and have done everything I was asked to do. I sent in 400 of the same documents, paid all trial period payments, bend over backwards and short of sending in my first born child. I am still getting calls from Citi Loss Mitagation telling me I am past due when I am not.

  • Citi mortgage took out a double payment on July 15, 2010. I paid July's mortgage payment online and their online system took out two payments. Cuasing numerous checks to bounce. They returned one payment and then my bank returned the $2389.00 check which I did not know. 2 weeks later citi reverted 5 payments causing a false sense of being late. I called them numerous times and was put on hold disconnected and was hung up on 5 times. I spent 5 hours on a Saturday trying to figure out this mess they did. They finally figured it out on the 27th and I Immediately paid them what I owed them. I talked to three difrent people and they said it would not go on my credit report and they did put it on my credit report. I faxed a letter to customer service and the printout that I was never late and they refused to take this off my credit. I have disputed this with the credit bureau. They told me to try calling them again I did last night and was on the phone for 3 hours and got disconnected. We should all get together and put a class action lawsuit against them. I have never been late on any payments. They caused my credit score to go down 30 points.

  • We have been lied to cheated .We are in our 60's and my husband work for himself . I am unable to leave my home due to illness. Citimorgage told us we qualified for a " home modifacation loan ".They've had us running around in circles since the first of june. Just like everyone else they never returned our calls, never sent our packet.NEVER talk to the same person twice.they took us right up to the action day ,asked my husband (while he was on a job and his cell phone) to give them our bank acct. number so they could take out a payment and stop the sale.THEY took out the wrong amount , but sent an email with their exceptance and said we would have to make 4 more regular payments , while they worked on our MODIFACATION PACKET AGAIN. We made another payment they excepted ,3days later we got a call from our lawyer saying that our first payment was short $155.00. It was their mistaked .They simply call it a missed payment ,because it was short.and guess what "YOUR HOUSE GOES TO AUCTION IN ONE HOUR." the story goes on and on but in the mean time I put a complaint to the state regulators " Department of Corporations " and got a responce in 24 hours. if we can get a bunch of people to do the same ,Maybe we could get citimortgage to straighten out this mess. go anywhere you can to complain.PLEASE! we need all the help we can get.

  • I also had a horrible experience with Citi. I was late due to loss of employment. My husband is still employed. I injuired for loan modification, was denied due to my husband didn't have enough income. We tried 3 times and with no help. I looked for employment with no luck. We got behind 5 months. Husband took out a loan with 401k and tried to pay what we owed. We called citi to arrange payment and they stated to call the lawyer. Lawyers office stated call citi. This went on for a month. Only when I said forget it I'm going to go to court and ask the judge for a extension so I can sell the house. They citi talked to the lawyer. Which is the law firm Hauselman, Rappin & O;swang. They still game me problems but finally took the money. They wanted to keep my house. I am going to get a lawyer. I will keep in touch and see how this works out. What happen to the help that the government so promised. I have had my house for 12 years. I am not irresponsible, but unemployed.

  • Do not do a loan modifacation with this company. You will not get any help from them. After being forced to take a 1/4 point reduction in my interest rate, my payment was raised back over what it was befor the modifacation. My taxes lowered, and my insurance was lowered by me, but they still raised the payment claiming there is not enough in my escrow. I questioned all of the above and still get "we will call you back in 3 to 5 days.

  • I was told by a Citi-Mortgage rep that if I signed a loan and paid a few payments I would become eligible for a loan modification with a 2% interest rate. i was assured several times by their rep I would recieve this loan modification. I signed paid a few payments even though my payments went over $50.00, (to what the contract stated), before I even paid the first payment. I filed a complaint with the comptoller of currency and was contacted by the rep from Citi Mortgage that had originally assured me of the loan modification. She said she would work this out with me and not to worry. She never caslled me back or returned any of my calls to her. i am now in foreclosure and found out that by signing this agreement they charged me for loan interest on the first loan on this property that had gone completely thru the foreclosure process. It as sold at the sheriffs sale and should have been terminated at that point( the first mortgage). They deceived me into signing this mortgage (while I was on unemployment, which I told them) and now I ned help to stop thjis nonsense.

  • I applied for the HAMP program in 08/2009 after I was told that we qualified. We had never been behind in our payments and our credit was excellent. Long story short Citi did not communicate with us, lied to us, back dated documents and computer files to cover their asses. Like so many others we did everything that was asked of us only to be treated very poorly by their parade of stupid customer representiives.
Absolutely the worst I have ever been treatd in my life. I wonder how many ways these bloodsuckers profit from destroying lives? Is Citi making money on credit default swaps? I wouldent doubt it. Anyway we had to sell everything we had to get current after Citi denied us for no reason and sent us a defalt notice. We are now current on our Mortgage with ruined credit thanks to these creeps. Yes we will join any class action suit we can find.

  • I too have had my problems and emotional breakdowsn thanks to CitiMortgage. We need to fight back. The Loss Mitigation turn my file over to a lawyer without giving me an opportunity to pay some of the past due amounts. I had to reapply and each time they come up with a excuse on why we can't finalize it. I believe they are delaying this so my house can be foreclose on. Is there any lawyer out there who can help us. I live in Texas and need help.

  • I got behind on my payments over two years ago when I lost my job. I was able to get a new job shortly after and tried to arrange to bring my account current with Citi. They kept changing the terms of the plan and losing my payments. I finally received a foreclosure notice. From there I tried to work with them on a loan modification. I was promised several plans and each time would pay as ordered only to learn that they would have to redo the plan for one reason or another. Each plan had me paying a certain amount for 6 months at which time a balloon payment would be due. I was always promised that a loan modification would be worked out before the balloon payment. It never was and the foreclosure kept moving along. After one call where the rep told me, "oh, someone forgot to hit the button that said you verbally accept the loan modification so we have to start over." , I decided to file suit against Citi. In discovery I demanded all the "recorded" phone conversations, (keep a phone log), and names of all the people I spoke with and addresses so they can be deposed. Three weeks after filing the suit I received my loan modification.

I made my first payment by phone. When we went to make the second payment they refused to accept it stating my home was sold at sheriff sale 2 weeks ago! I verified that no sheriff sale ever occurred or was scheduled but can not get Citi to do the same. they just tell me my aaccount is now closed, my home has been sold, and there is nothing they can do! The attorney who handled the foreclosure for Citi and arranged the loan modification can not help. His file is closed and a mutual dismissal was filed. I am unable to get a manager to call me back or the address for the legal department!

Does anyone have any corporate officer contact info or info on how to contact the legel department.

  • Applied for Home Affordable Modification Program. Trial period was affordable and lasted 7 months. We were finally approved but at a much higher rate - only $200 less than the mortgage payment that we couldn't afford. We are on Social Security which does not have tax withheld but they couldn't understand that. They kept saying they had to add the tax back in that was kept out when our check were sent to us. They insisted they were right and refused to alter their figures.

  • To those of you that feel jerked around you have all listed the reason why you are being jerked around without even know it. Your credit was too good and your interest rates are already at a level that Citi cannot make money by modifying your loans. They ( Citi) only have to lower your first mortgage to 30% of your gross monthly income and on top of that if they can make a case that you are beyond hope they don’t have to modify at all. While unethical and downright sleazy Citi is not stupid if they don’t want to modify a loan they are allowed to “Review it” for a extended period of time, it doesn’t take a neurosurgeon to figure out that an individual who is unemployed will with certainty face a deteriorating financial position. Once they reach this position they will be able to itemize this borrower to a position of without a reasonable chance of recovery.

  • I started the loan modification process in May, 2010 with a Consumer Credit Counselor's help. I was told I requalified for the HAMP program at Citibank, the rep said my payments would be $661.00 with insurance and taxes rolled into the new loan modification I sought this help because I was unemployed. A rep came to my house we went through each stage of the compliance package and I sent back the package. I was told it would be 30 days for a decision. I never got that decision. I was asked to fax the same paperwork 5 different times costing me $110.00 to fax the paperwork. I was then told by the processor of my paperwork on 5 different occasions that a new program UP was in the works and I would qualify for that program. My mortgage is current and I was told I don't qualify for any programs because I'm unemployed. A rep told me to go into arrears to qualify. Underwriting turned me down even though I received email and text messages telling me I was in the final stages approval. I have called numerous times. When I told a rep I would qualify for the annciliary program of HAMP called UP, he asked me to read the federal bill to him over the phone and said let me as my supervisor what "annciliary means" or maybe I should go on dictionary.com. I have reached out to Citibank for 5 months and don't know what else to do. They advocate on their website they will help you but this is not to be believed. They actually laugh at you on the phone. It is the worst experience I have been though.

  • I applied for home modication in May of 2009. They told me I qualified to skip one payment to be added to the mortgage and a reduction of 16 dollars monthly. For a year I went back and forth with the company about paperwork. Finally in April 2010 I was told that all of the paperwork was received and with the underwriter. I received a text message the first week of August stating that I was approved. I reviewed my account online which also stated that I was approved. A week later I received another text message stated that I should receive a home solutions package in 5-7 days. This also read on my online account. Friday August 13, 2010 I received a call stating that I owed 2,500. After being on the phone for hours speaking with different people I was told that I was denied in June. Nothing on their computer reflected an approval. Of course I cannot prove it. I went online to review my account and the approval message is gone. They said my income is too high. I was told that my July payment was on hold because I owed an extra 97 dollars. If I paid it my balance would come down to 1,439. I did not understand but decided to pay, then was told I had to pay a 20 dollar processing fee. I called again for clarity and was told that if I did not pay 1,439 by the 16th there would be an additional fee of 40 dollars. Why 1,439? Well this is the payment they allowed me to miss including late fees and other fees that I do not understand. Now that I was denied, I owe that payement and all of the fees. The best advice is to refinance but how can I? My credit is messed up and I cannot get a loan to pay the 1,439. They said call in Sept to make arrangements to pay 1,400 off in 6 months but I will still receive a monthly late fee and negative credit rating. Therefore my credit report will reflect 6 months of late payments. I do not know how to get out of this.

  • I applied for the modification in May of 2009. They continued to ask for more and more information. Finally several months ago I was told that all of the paperwork was in and it was being reviewed. Two weeks ago I received a text message stating that I was approved. It also stated the same thing on my citimortgage online account. Last week I received another text message stating that I was approved and would receive the home solution package in the mail in 5-7 days. Yesterday I received a call stating that I owed 2,500. I could not understand. After talking to different people all day, I was told that I was denied. They did not see any information in the computer that I was approved. When I told the lady about the text message and online account she said ARE YOU SURE? I went back to my online account and the approval message was not there. They said my income was too high. They got over because they never sent anything in the mail stating that I was approved. One person even said well since you could not pay your regular mortgage I don't know how you are going to pay 2,500. They are charging late fees for each month of my one year trial period that I was making reduced payments. They are charging me for the difference between my regular mortgage and reduced payments for over one year. This is a realy scam.

I been dealing with them. one of there loan officer's told me the sent us a text saying our modiification did not go through.... who on earth send's a text to a HOME phone? and we been getting phone call's from the philipeen's as well. then we kepted seeing when we send our check's to them...they would not cash them till the next moneth, so they said we were at default on our loan. so we took matter into our own hand's and sent it certified for the to sign. we kept an i on that letter and it did get signed on the Month. but was not cash till the next month again at the END of that Month! They were taking on fee's that did not make sense.. so I called them and asked about there fee's that they were taking onto, One of there fee's was, they come out to your home to see if your the home owner's. OK I did not have anyone come to my DOOR asking me if I was the HOME OWNER!!!! I have documented all my call's even as to printing out the call's DATE'S AND TIME'S and employee ID number and the name of the employee I talk to that day. They even said I had Coucler's and gave me bogus number's excepted for 2 of the coucler's and I keep calling them coucler's But they do not call me back' and do you think they get back to me NO! Call your local News media. I called my local News and I called DateLine you might want to contacted a Lawyer as we are doing this today... • On August 4, 2010, I called to make a payment. After being placed on hold the woman said my mortgage was actualy 46 cents (yes cents) more than what she said. She asked for my debit card information again. I asked if she processed the first payment, she said no she placed me on hold to review my account. Needless to say, she did process the first payment which left two holds on my bank account leaving a negative balance. I called later that afternoon and was told that the first payment was not processed, the hold would be released by mightnight. NOT TRUE!!! I spent the entire day yesterday calling to have someone send a letter to my bank releasing the hold. I even had a conference call with a rep. from the bank. The bank made it very easy asking for a letter stating that the first payment was cancelled OR that they did not intend to take two payments. Each Citi mortgage rep was nasty. They hung up, some said they did not see two payments, where others confirmed the payments, I was called sir ( I am a female) and I was finally told to prove it and they would send a letter. My bank faxed the documentation showing that my payment was processed twice and that I had additional fees. I called citi mortgage again and was told that the process takes 24-48 hours. I was told that it was my bank's fault for placing the hold because they cancelled the payment. I continued to ask if they would simply inform the bank that the first payment was cancelled. Some reps. did not even understand what I meant by two payments being on HOLD!!! I was told again that they needed my bank account information which had been faxed!!! I called today and was told that this would not be resolved until next week. The bank statement was received but would not be posted to my account for several days. So now, I have no money, my account shows that I owe over $600 because of citi mortgage's error, they were rude, showed no concern and even denied my request to speak with a supervisor several times. All because of 46 cents.

I am an American it would be nice to be able to speek to someone else that is also! The worst customer service I have ever dealt with. They will hang up on you instead of trying to help you. They have ruined my credit and for some reason are getting away with this. We need a lawyer to take ove rthis case to help people like us!!

    Furious!! 8/5/10 11:51AM

  • Citimortgage never told me we could skip on PMI if we gave a little more money down on our modest home... so I have been paying PMI for 14 years. I asked months ago about it and was told by a customer service rep that I cant cancel it. I researched it today and found that it is cancelable after reaching 20 percent equity. We are way past that. I feel ripped off by Citimortgage...

  • I have been thru a nightmare with a loan modification with citi. I have experienced all of the same problems as everyone else on this page. Perhaps we should pursue legal action. Anyone have any ideas?

    Anonymous 8/3/10 12:26PM

  • I was laid-off in April 2008, by November of 2009 I knew how long I could continue to pay my mortgage, so I contacted Citi for some type of assistance. Because I was current, they were not willing to grant me the modifcation. In March 2009, I became delinquent after being on time for eight years. Their Loss migration dept granted a payment pay, which their goal was to bring my account current. September 2009 I received a call from Citi wanting to help me by putting me in the HAMP program, with a modification payment only 1/4 of my regular payment. The agreement stated I should make this payments for 3mths and on time. Within two days of receiving the call in September 2009, I had faxed all the required documents more than 8 times. In May 2010, I was told they only thing they were waiting for was my tax transcripts from the IRS. Mid May 2010, I received a call from my insurance company asking was I still in my home....not knowing that Citi had put me in foreclosure and I get home I get a letter from the attorney stating that I'm in foreclosure. I called Citi and was told that I was dropped from the modification because I did not provide them all documents they requested, yet they accepted my April and May payments. I truely believe that Citi knew they were wrong about the process of modification. Now my home is now up for Sheriff sale on August 3.....Shame on Citimortgage.

  • Citimortgage is a literal complete disaster. We started this in 3/1/09, requesting a modification based on the pending expiration of our interest only arm, and the fact that we would never qualify for a refi b/c our house was $200k upside down.

We were assigned a counselor named Janna Bourquin. She failed to return any of our phone calls for weeks at a time, and eventually her voice mail was full. We had to go above her to ask managers to please have her call us back, which never happened.

We were eventually told that we were approved for a HAMP modification by the random customer service agent who answered our call. Then when we called to make a payment, our payment was rejected b/c our mortgage was too big, and we really didn't qualify for a HAMP modification. From 6/23/09 through 2/24/10, every other phone call to Citibank yielded a different answer: "Congratulations, your modification is approved", "Your loan is not approved, you don't qualify," "I don't know why you were told that," etc.

Apparently, Ms. Bourquin eventually put us on a "supplemental modification" but never told us. She falsely noted in the Citibank system (at least I am told these notes are in the system, and I know they are false) that she told us about our approval. We happened to call in two days before our first trial payment under that system was due.

We sent that day, by FedEx overnight mail, our payment and a letter explaining what we had heard (but never seen in writing) about us being on a supplemental mod trial payment. The payment was signed for on the due date of 3/1/10. Then we made our next two payments as scheduled as well. On 4/22/10 we were told we were removed from the program for failure to pay the 3/1/10 payment. We faxed proof of the signature confirmation by FedEx, showing Citibank signed for it on 3/1/10. That was placed in Citibank's "file net" where it has been ever since.

We made the fourth payment in good faith because it never occurred to us we would not be placed back in the program after us providing proof we paid it on time.

From 4/22/10 on, we have called at least two times per week, and usually every 48 business hours. We have been told that the account was "under review", then that it was NOT under review, then that our review was denied and "should never have been re-opened" by the very same Janna Bourquin who failed to return our calls for months.

We have appealed every 48 hours to agents who say they are "escalating" the case. Now after 3 additional months have gone by, we are told that Ms. Bourquin will not reopen the case, there is no one else we can appeal to in all of Citibank, even though the proof of our on time payments is right in the file.

I have every detail of every conversation, and every document showing proof of our on time payments. But despite all that, we are now scheduled for our auction, and no one can help us because Ms. Bourquin simply refuses to look in Filenet to see the proof.

I would love to provide this evidence to whomever within government will listen. This company should truly be criminally sanctioned for the false representations they have made.

UPDATE: now we are told that if we make $4700 per month payments, we will be given a new loan, but they won't tell us what the terms are (what is the interest rate? what is the length of the loan?). They would not state that we wouldn't be kicked out again, like last time, for absolutely no reason.

I have not heard of a single person who successfully made it through this process. What are they doing?

  • I sat here and read half way down this thing and basically the same thing is happening to me. I have been trying to the Modification since February.
Two points to make it short:
1.) LACK OF COMMUNICATION BY CITI- no one has called me to say I failed, the mod requirements. They just stopped taking my payment and now I am bombarded with letters from attorneys saying we can help you get out of foreclosure!! am I officially in foreclosure? Why was I not notified by Citi imediatelty about failing so I can work on other alternatives?
2.) False claims - I received emails, text, and even call 1866-272-4749 and when type in my person info it tells me I was approved for my request!!! To make it even more frustrating it says if you would like to know your payment contact this attorney at 555-555-5555 (fictious # for privacy) the number is disconnected!! HELP!
MILBERG.com is my only hope for compensation!

  • Ditto to all of the negative statements here. Stay away from this monster, if your mortgage gets sold to them refinance as soon as possible. Citi is the worst at everything they do. My husband and I work for the same company and we are only paid once a month, on the 10th to be exact. When I went to sign up for automatic payments via their website I found out they charge an extra $10.00 if you pay on the 10th of the month or after. Since payment is not considered late unless it is received after the 16th of the month this baffled me, so I called them. Was greeted by some scripted idiot in a cubicle. She couldn't answer my questions so she routed me to a supervisor who also sounded scripted. Finally gave up and wrote a letter, when I received a response it basically said that they pass the operating cost of this internet feature on to their customers. Guess they never heard of the terms cost of doing business and customer service. Granted my story is doesn't compare to the other nightmares written here, but is reflective of just how they nickle and dime their customers. Ever since then, I have called them at least once year and asked for them to please sell my mortgage to someone else. Probably didn't have enough people wanting to pay that $10 fee so they asked the government for help. Stay away they are bad business.

  • Citi Mortgage has been my mortgage company for a few years. My wife was a student and and took care of our 2 children while I worked, we made just enough to get by. We separated in Jan of '09 and I fell behind on my mortgage. I looked into several options to become current and make my mortgage affordable. Citi claimed there was nothing they could do for me, other then refer me to outside agencies who needed to be able to work with Citi. Citi again wouldn't help. I then lost my job in Sept. of '09, again I pleaded with Citi to help me keep my home for my family, as I had reconciled with my wife. The said now they could help as soon as I could prove income. I understand payments would need to be made, I had some money but no job. I was even read to offer deed-in-lue of foreclosure, they refused to accept. They Foreclosed on Jan 26, 2010. I am entitle to a 6 month redemption period, which means it will no longer my home July 26, 2010. At the beginning of June Citi sent a locksmith to change my locks. Now on July 13, the sent in people to "take my belonging to the dump." These were the exact words given to my neighbor. I now have a small apartment and have been moving my things to it, as I found no way to keep the house. I walked in to find they only took things of value. Over $300 in cookware, my wedding china,a couple collectors items, and the few remaining children's toys. I ensured they couldn't change the lock again, so they broke a window. I am filling a police report Monday morning, but have no idea if I will ever see my belongings again.

  • I have been in the loan mod program since 08/09. I have made ever payment on time to this date.
Got a letter in the mail from them on 06/10 saying that my home was in forcloser due to " missing paper work". When ask what was missing. I was told the paystubs from the co-borrower were not sent in. FYI the said co-borrower isn a 69 year old retired person there are no paystubs. I sent them a copy of S.S. letter of benifits along with bank statment to show the deposit's.
When this issue finely got thru to them. I was told that they could no longer accept personal checks for payment. Ok so now I send a cashier's check from the bank. Keep in mind that I still have made all payments and those payments are being cashed. And from the start all payments are sent to them certified sig required. I was told to stop doing that. My responce.... I don't trust you. Funny I don't think they like that. And here is the kicker I get called from 3-6 times a month. I have been told that I have not made a payment in over 200 days. The fact that the left hand does not know what the right hand is doing is VERY clear. I can only wonder why this crap company was bailed out, it should have failed. I also love how they say that "This call maybe recoreded". And you say some here, they freak out and demand you shut it off. Try it.

  • My husband and I applied for a loan modification and were accepted. We started the agreement to pay more each month in order to get caught up, we were only one month behind. The agreement started in Nov ’09. This month we received a foreclosure notice even though we made all the scheduled payments per our agreement. After weeks of runaround and lies from their reps we proved we paid and they admitted they applied our payment to another account. Now they say we are three month behind and owe over 4000.00. They have said they sent a detailed payment history to explain why we owe this but they have not. We can prove we made our payments but they cancelled our agreement because they lost the payment and now we owe fees and late charges. We have a disabled child and the stress is making me sick.

July no modification, can't find my papaer work and now want to foreclose on me.

  • CitiMortgage Loan Modification Class Action

Did you sign up for a loan modification with CitiMortgage and were placed into a trial program with reduced payments, only to be rejected from the program and imposed late fees and experienced other financial repercussions?

Milberg LLP has filed a class action against CitiMortgage, on behalf of mortgage borrowers who have been wrongfully charged late fees and had their credit-worthiness ruined after being rejected from the permanent loan modification program, despite complying with the trial period guidelines.

Consumers that were rejected from the permanent loan modification program through no fault of their own should find themselves in no worse position than they entered it. Instead, CitiMortgage failed to honor its agreements, and its misrepresentations about the program, enacted to help homeowners reduce their payments and keep their homes, have left customers financially devastated.

For more detail regarding the class action, you may view the complaint here.

Although we are prosecuting this case as a class action, no class has yet been certified, and there can be no guarantee that one will ever be certified, or that you will be a member. If a class is certified, we will post further details here. Please visit the Milberg website for more information about the firm. • Trying to help my mom with her forclosure. She started filing in March, and by April they knew they would not be able to help her with a modified loan for her home. Instead of telling her this they kept it from her and even after she called many times since. We just found this out on July 1st. We were told they could not see notes from prior calls, or some other bull to keep us from knowing the truth. I think they are doing this to everyone so that when it comes time they can put a house up for forclosure and then they take it as a goverement write off.
With this being said, I think its time that people banded together and start a class action suite against Citibank Morgage. Any thoughts on this?

  • I have been working on a Modification with a Attorney since 10/2009. CitiMortgage refuses to answer to my Attorney or the Courts and has been getting away with it. Why does the GOVERNMENT not get involved to help save our homes as promissed? Why do we have to continue to live in LIMBO? These Mortgage companies need to be held responsible for timely modifications and the government needs to get off their butts and make it happen.

  • I, too, have had terrible, stressful experiences with Citi. For 9 months in 2009 I attempted a loan modification, only to be "verbally" denied (they don't put these things in writing, they say). Then catching up in an installment plan (which took me sending a letter to the CEO of Citi to get any action). I despise talking to a different rep each time (and they NEVER know what the previous rep has said, and they're records are incorrect). A lady (who was actually helpful, name Holly Gooding) told me during my installment arrangements that their computer system indicated my monthly income was $40,000!So it seems a stupid clerical error on their part result in my modification denial last year. Now I'm facing losing my home, and again, I get nothing but heartache and nagging calls and letters. They are NOT a good company. And just like another person said, the right hand doesn't know what the left hand is doing. They lose documents, you'll get a different story every time you call. Get OUT from Citi while you can, if you can!!

    Sorry in Sacramento 7/4/10 12:05PM

  • All other consumer complaints are so true! Citimort. also told me I had to be 'late' with payments in order for someone to speak with me about modification. What a travesty this company is getting away with. I have been trying for OVER a year. They denied modification for Homeowners Assist.Program because they didn't recieve a tax form (that was Fed EX'd,faxed twice, and ups'd)Then they told me today it was denied for nonpayment of trial payments (that were made Nov,Dec,Jan,Feb,Mar) In April told they would not accept. They have put home in foreclosure for this 88 year old retired teacher. We're supposed to still be in mode of review for 'Traditional Modification'while foreclosure continues. I also had assistance of HopeNow counselor, but the Citi person we were speaking with was in NEW DELHI,INDIA ..go figure. I hope a class action is started soon where Citi is going to have to be held accountable for their lies to the American Homeowner.

  • On September 30, 2009 Citimortgage agrred to loan modification, and said completion would take 30 days. After submitting the same documents 3 and 4 time, they finally notified in May 2010 us that everything was all set and we would be notified in 7 days. 8 weeks later we recieve documents that added over $14000 to our mortgage. What they did was continue to charge the old interest rate for 9 months after the modification was agreed to and modified interest was promised. I believe down the line they will be hit with a gigantic class action suit, but such action is not feasible now because they are nearly bankrupt themselves.

    pat 7/1/10 6:53AM

  • We went through their farce for a year and a half, made our payments, 50 million phone calls and applications out the ying yang then we were told if we wanted to qualify for the modification we had to miss a payment.
An over 820 credit score, on unemployment and we went against everything we had strived for all our lives and missed a payment like we were ordered to do. Then we were told we didn't qualify for that.
So now we asked for a partial forebearance due to unemployment, put the house on the market for a year during all this, no contracts. Took it off, tried to sell it ourselves a few months no contracts. Listed in again $100,000. less still couldn't get a contract, took it off market to rent. A few days later got a contract for a little less on the mortgage we owed ($15,000. less), CitiMortgage told us they couldn't accept it, they would only accept a contract from us from a short sale expert on the home.
We argued it would cost you CitiMortgage up to $100000. loss on our home if we short saled it versus us getting you, CitiMortgage to accept a firm contract closingin 6 weeks and only losing $20,000.
We lost the contract, a firm contract, $20,000. less than we owe, closing in 6 weeks on a 1/2 million plus dollar home. Now we have to short sale our home. Instead of saving our 820 credit score, we will now lose all of our self esteem, no job, no credit, no one to help. Big Business Citimortgage vs. consumers, we get the part we are suppose to play, we just don't know how to play it anymore.

  • You never can speak to the same person twice. They never call you back like they promise. They regularly loose information or don't record it in their system (if they really have one). Every time you call it is like starting over. They won't give you an extension so you can have continued communication on your account with the same person. My experience is because of the communication issues above, they make uninformed decisions with missing or inaccurate information on something as important as your home and the life savings you have tied up in it. It should be a crime for what they are doing to people.

It seems that the loan modification program is something they use as PR in their ads but in reality, they don't give a flip about helping a homeowner who has made faithful payments on time until lost job in lay off.

In summary, filed for modification in mid Jan. Was told based on info was pre-qualified. Made agreed payments for 6 mos. During period, despite my numerous requests, they would not forward anything in writing on terms, rules, regs of modification leaving me flying blind on deal. Yesterday received demand letter listing late fees, balance on full payments and notice of foreclosure. Only by phone when I called to find out what the demand letter was about did I find out that mod was declined. Tried numerous times to communicate with them during period to report updates in finances such as offer to buy portion of property for $50K that would reduce amt. of loan and reduction of debt. None of this is on their records just like paperwork that was nowhere to be found during six month process or the updates on status of modification they told me to look for on their website. We had basically all money invested in house now that will be lost, not to mention our credit. At 56 years old, it is difficult to imagine how to completely start over.

They put me in the HAM program, know I'm qualified, but they won't give it to me. While I'm doing all this and making payments to them they're racking up huge interest debts that they plan to suddenly bill me. I'm doing everything I can do to work with them honestly while they continue to destroy me financially. They're costing me to lose my condo and they honestly deserve to be put in jail for their actions.

  • My husband and I feel like we are being scammed by Citimortgage. We started refinancing the second week in April 2010 with the promise that we should close in June. This sounded great with lower interest rate and paying the house off in 20 years. Let me explain that we applied $100,000 toward the purchase of our house in August 2006 and financed the rest with Citimortgage. Currently our mortgage balance is just over $109,000. Our credit is great, monthly income is good, and we have a nice retirement fund. My husband receives Social Security Disability due to complications from a brain tumor and has short-term memory. He also receives monthly deposits from his retirement account and can withdraw from this account on an as needed basis. As a matter of fact, my husband alone has enough money in this retirement account that we could pay off the mortgage. Additionally, Citimortgage was fully aware that I worked for a temp agency but that I had been assigned to the same company for a year. They had no issues with this.
We have all documentations that Citimortgage requested sent via email. The Mortgage Loan Coordinator said she never received them. We sent the docs a second time with the same response. After the third time she said she received them. When everything seemed to be fine, she told us that we needed to either close our line credit at our bank, which had $0.00 balance, or have them send a letter stating that Citimortgage was first in line. We closed this line of credit with our bank which cost us $250. This seemed to satisfy her so she sent everything to the underwriter. To refinance with Citimortgage it cost us $450 up front.
Then we received an email stating that she and another person completed the verification of employment for me but that it was not sufficient for underwriting. She asked me to get a written letter from the temp agency or from the actual employer stating that it was a long term assignment, etc. She said the letter needed to state if I am temporary or permanent since that is what underwriting is asking for. Also the letter needed to be signed and dated.
It just so happened that I was hired permanently fulltime with this company the same day I received the email request from Citimortgage. I asked the HR director at the company I work for to provide me the required information in a letter and he did. I emailed the letter to Citimortgage and informed them that I now worked as a permanent in the same company I had been assigned to. The letter Citimortgage requested not only stated that I was now hired permanent fulltime but also that I had been working long-term with the same company for a year. This is exactly what she said the underwriter needed.
June 8, 2010 we received another email stating that the underwriter sent it back requesting that I send 4 check stubs from my new permanent position. She also stated that this will delay the process about another month and the rate will expire on 06/28/10. She said Citimortgage can extend the rate but extension fees are charged and that we may want to speak to our loan officer to see how we wanted to proceed. We were given a name of who the loan officer was but no phone number was given. Then she said she would be on vacation for the next week and would be back on the 16th at which point she would check back with us. (I guess we paid for her vacation?!?) I also must mention that there were times that phone calls were not returned. Additionally, she was out sick for a week. And we’re going to be penalized because of the delay!?!
Okay, so let's recap. We've paid $450 for refinancing and $250 to close our line of credit with our bank (with a $0.00 balance). Now we're asked to pay an extension fee to keep the same rates! Citimortgage delayed closing, not us! We provided the information they requested on a timely manner. As far as my employment, they had a verification of employment department that was to handle getting the required information which they were not getting in a timely manner. That was their delay, not ours. When they requested my help to obtain information on employment, based on their first request, I provided that in a timely manner (within half an hour). Then having my employment kicked back from underwriting again, once I again supplied them with the new requirements for employment the very next day. Seems funny that underwriting changes the rules of what they required for my employment (first they wanted a letter which my HR department provided and now 4 check stubs!!!).
Something must be done. By not proceeding with the refinancing we lose $450; however, if we continue we would pay an extension fee. Why are we, the customer, responsible for paying an extension fee when we did not delay? Also, there is concern that Citimortgage may come back and deny refinancing after all this, once again all for naught. Isn't it funny that we were able to pay our mortgage and monthly bills with no problems when I wasn't working. Definitely we're feeling scammed.

  • most horrible and incompetent bank to deal with. They can never find my account when I call and yet keep receiving my payments.Loan modification documentation submitted more than 3 months ago but no answer. They keep transferring my call back and forth and eventually they hang up.I don't know who would I contact to resolve this frustrating nightmare.

  • Citimortgage is the worst...I submitted paperwork trice and they preapproved me to a principal reduction on my second mortgage twice. and when it went to the closer they would say I dont qualify for that & would try to offer me something else ridiculous that I could not afford.

  • All the stories are similar. That should tell everyone, including the company, something. I had to apply for the HAM program also due to divorce. First of all, I informed them that I was now separated but not divorced, and they told me it would be FINE...go ahead and submit the paperwork to start getting on the program anyway. My initial paperwork to Citi was lost twice. I then contacted the HOPE line, and suddenly everything started working. Both the mortgage company AND the HOPE people told me it was ok that I didn't have the divorce paperwork. I got on the program, paid the lowered amount as they requested for 4 months. Then the next month, without any notification to me, when I called to make the payment they said I owed 12,000 dollars and they couldn't take anything less than my normal, full mortgage payment amount. According to them, my account said that they were still awaiting the documents necessary to complete the loan. I finally got to a person who told me that documentation was my husband's proof of income or my full divorce paperwork. They gave me a deadline of the following month, and in Texas, you must waiting 60 days before you can proceed with divorce. At any rate, I started RIGHT THEN (with the money I would have paid the mortgage, I paid the lawyer) and JUST finished my divorce. Now they tell me I owe 17,000 and that I no longer qualify for the HAM...I lost my chance. Where's the government money that was provided for me to get this modification?

  • I am a licensed real estate agent located in GA.
I tried to get a short sale process started.
I sent the package many times.
I can tell you that Citi Mortgage is a bonafide incompedent disguised as a lender.
Their staff is a quite uneducated.
They do not even know the status of their own property.
    Their reps never respond.
My clients house was foreclosed however I submitted the paper work numerous times.
They even had it filed and said to me that the eviction was postponed.

    They never contact me.
Due to this I lost my reputation with my client

  • I agree that Citi Mortgage are a bunch of crooks. For the last year we have been trying put a loan modification in place. They have lost our documents 7 times, I finally had a person that I sent everything to and I was told that he had recieved the documents. A week ago, we were called by the HAM program to tell us that everything was almost completed and not to worry about anything.

I went to pay my house payment under the modification yesterday, I was told that because we disputed the modification that they are foreclosing on us!!!! In 3 weeks!! This was after 14 different phone numbers and 14 different so called customer service representatives that have no clue of what is going on. The gentlemen that I had been dealing with is no longer employed by Citi! Convenient, isn't it.
We have NOT disputed anything! These morons are power hungry and think that they can do what they want and they don't give a damned about the consumer. You can rest assured that Monday, I am finding someone in corporate and get this resolved once and for all. If they don't cooperate, I will file an injuction against them through the courts and force them to do the right thing. I am going to go so far as to ask the courts that with all of this abuse, that my loan be forgiven and then Citi can stuff it!

  • You wouldn't believe the torture ive endured by citimortgage. It seems many of you have had similar problems as me, i applied for the gov modification program in September 09 I was never late my mortgage was 2800.00 I simply expressed that it was tight for me I gave my info they preapproved me and lowered my payment on a "3 month" trial to $1250.00. Paper work was missing , the same document over and over again, I kept on them and called weekly, I was told it looks good for you that there taking so long, and try next week, well 9 months later I get a call saying you are denied for not enough salary, I was like explain that to me I dont make enough to afford the lower amount so I have to pay the higher amount. I was also told I am $19000 behind now, I recieved a letter today saying if they dont recieve the money in 2 weeks they will start forclosure process, which was there suggestion when they told me i was declined, then they would call me 4-5 times a day from a 646 area code and hang up most of the time. Next I called my finance guy to try to refinance and he said my credit score dropped from 780 to 600 because of what they posted so i cant. I want to get a lawsuit going very badly, or ring someones neck over there.I borrowed money from family to help me out of this, now I heard for someone that citi is denying anyone with a low balance on there mortgage so they can forclose and take your house and make a profit, they should all rott in hell, anyway on a happier note please email me at chimneygu@aol.com so we can get enough names to start a class action suit

  • These people are absolute crooks. They nickel and dime you to death on everything they can. They "pad" their escrow accounts, hold payment checks to collect interest, etc. They charged me $400 to close my escrow account. When I asked them for a payoff statement by mail, they never sent it. They suck in all ways. Stay away.

  • I can't even put into words the frustration and stress that CitiMortgage has inflicted on me. I have been trying to "Modify" my loan for 8 months now. It took them 6 MONTHS to tell me I didn't qualify for the HAMP Program. Who is even qualifying for it? Is anyone getting modifications? I am now going through the traditional modification review, but it is also taking way longer then it is supposed to. They lose all of my paperwork, everyone tells you a different story, they are crooks! The worst company I have ever dealt with, where is all of the bailout money???

    Anonymous 5/28/10 11:23AM

  • Citi has ruined another credit score after denying loan modification. Why why why did it take them 6 months for them to decide that mortgage payment (a number they know) to gross income (a paycheck) ratio did not meet their minimum criteria for a loan mod ? Also never previously late. Would super like to get score corrected as I've paid as agreed. This is the craziest thing ever. Why would Citi knowingly put someone in a program on DAY 1 if they knew on DAY 1 they won't accept them ??? Something needs to be done ASAP. GET THE FACTS BEFORE YOU TRY LOAN MOD. Oh, and after the "trial" fails because you don't qualify, they want the original full back payments paid in full after you are denied. You'll end up in worse shape than what you started.

  • Citi mortgage is not trust worthy. The experience I had with them is unbelievable. I mean this in a negitive way. They lie, take your money, ruin your credit and will take your home. TRUST ME. I am an honest person who would not lie or screw anyone. I had a greaty credit rating, great job, and an ARM with CITI that needed to be refinanced. I Qualified but so call appraisal was below value. They took my money, forced me to not make 3 payments to talk to them and now I lost my home in foreclosure to them.Go figure. They bid 91,100 on my home. The principle balance was over $230,000. They now own my home.

  • On 4/17/10 I sent a personal check and two $500 money orders for the "final payment" on my home. I have had it financed for 10 years and NEVER made a late payment. A week ago a Citimortgage person called me and ask if I was having trouble paying my bills. I told her no and my house was paid off. She informed me that I still owed 1037 on my mortgage. My personal check had cleared. I spoke with a person at Citimortgage and she advised me to go to the post office and they could trace my money orders. I did that and they found that a couple weeks before Citimortgage had sent them some scraps of money orders along with a letter saying that they came from their post office and they did not know where or who they came from. I had the receipts so the post office reissued my money orders and I sent them along with the letter to the Payment Research Dept in Sedwick Maryland. I then called Citimortgage and told them that I had found out what had happened and the woman was rude and nasty. She told me I still owed them a late fee and I would pay it. I informed her that the money orders were received and torn up at Citimorgage and that was not my fault. She said I could file an appeal with Citimortgage of course and then we will see. I have never ever been treated so badly.

  • Citimortgage should be investigated for fraud and for abusing its customers. I hope everyone upset with this obscene company helps spreads the word about how they do nothing but scam the public. Absolutely terrible service. Nothing about Citi is good, at all. If they fell apart tomorrow, I would throw a party and would mark the day as an annual event on my calendar to celebrate.

  • Glad to know that citimortgage does everyone the same way. Filed for a modification in Dec 09. Finally in Jan 10 was told it was closed because I was not behind. Got behind and filed again Mar3,2010 and am still doing the dog and pony show. I call every week and get something different from everyone I talk to. I have not been assigned a counselor or they need more paperwork. Called again today and was told to refile Are they kidding? I do not have another 3 month to play around with these people. I am filing bankruptcy due to my husbands death and was hoping to keep the house but i think I must put it in the bankruptcy as I am getting nowhere trying to work with Citimortgage. I would never recomend this company to anyone. They are very disfunctional. No one and I mean no one knows what the person next to them is doing.

    feedup with citimortgage 5/18/10 9:54AM

  • Upon losing my disability, and worrying that I would fall behind until my appeal case was complete I contacted Citimortgage to be a "pro-active" customer. After explaining my situation to the rep. I was urged to do a loan modification.

The rep. told me that the only way I could be approved for a loan mod. was to stop payment for 3 months. It is important to note that when I made this call I had not been late on ANY payments, but wanted to maintain this mortgage, as I have fought hard for the last 8 years to improve my credit score.

I explained my concern to the representative but he assured me that the non-payments for the next 3 months were necessary for the modification, and that it was strictly an IN-HOUSE procedure and would NOT be reported to the credit bureaus.

We received the modification, but soon found out that it was indeed reported to the credit bureaus. Our credit score dropped dramatically, and I have appealed this, called countless times, been told different excuses, and made to feel like I was lying! Citimortgage is responsible for bringing my credit score from GOOD to POOR, and I am now subjected to high interest rates when applying for credit.

I am so disgusted with Citimortgage, as they have set me back to a place that will make it impossible to access another loan until 2015. We had hoped to sell our home, now we cannot. I could go on and on about this joke of a company but it has had a huge impact on my health. The reps. lie about their names, or they have no concept or training when you are unlucky (most times) to discuss your situation with a polite but useless operator in India. Most of the Americans I have spoken with are obviously past caring about the plight of Citimortgage customers and are extremely rude. There have been many times I just hang up when I hear that certain tone when our conversation starts. I don't need sarcasm in such a serious matter.

I NOW JUST WANT TO WALK AWAY FROM THIS HOME AND SCREW CITIMORTGAGE! ( I don't think I care any longer if my credit score drops further, as this has been an enormous stress that has taken its toll)

  • CitiMortgage has a scam going! They took part in the gov. Making Home Affordable Program but no one can qualify for the program! First they qualify you, lower your payments. They let you stay on a trial period that is supposed to last 3 months but they are "so busy" that they extend it for several more months. All the while, after you have submitted all their required documents, several times because they either lost or didn't receive what you submitted the first time, you don't receive any monthly statements from them. Then all of a sudden, you find that don't qualify for a modification and your loan is now in arrears and you have to pay back thousands of dollars or they will start foreclosure within 14 days. They lowered my payment by $203 per month for 4 months and yet told me I was in arrears by #2,038. They can't even tell me how they came up with that amount. Their customer service told me "If you can't afford to pay your payments, maybe you shouldn't have the house!" In addition they processed an unauthorized payment through my bank and my bank (Chase) paid it, even though I didn't have funds to cover it. I am trying to find an attorney willing to take on CitiMortgage - I'll bet there are enough people out there to get a class action suit going! I am disabled but willing to do what I can to stop their illegal practices

  • I am beyond appalled. I have a current CitiMortage Loan for 6 years - I have been trying to refinance for 4 months. Was "accepted" and given the mortgage commitment documents with stipulations experienced by others, they want backup documentation for bank deposits, etc. and I provided. Nothing happened for more than a month. I start calling... and calling and calling and emailing and emailing. Finally get an answer of "there's a problem with title to your coop". They say the coop I live in has a whole in the name/title chain according to ServiceLink, their title company. (Notwithstanding the fact that a coop finance or refinance doesn't need a title search EVER for anything, just a property report.) So even though they technically don't need it, and never did for the first loan and do not for this one, I got our building attorney involved, my attorney involved, and gave them what ServiceLink said didn't exist - documentation that was properly recorded. Now, I receive a call today that they are going to refuse me because of another perceived title name change gap - just like the first - another thing they legally don't need and another thing their title company say they can't find. But their new twist is it appears no chance will be given to me to again do their work for them and ServiceLink before "senior underwriting make their decision". This and CitiMortgage's whole process is a complete, organized scam in my opinion. And if they deny me based on this unbelievable hoop-jumping-for-nothing, I will make it my hobby and mission to chase them and report them to every government agency I can find.

  • This pitiful organization, if you can even call Citimortgage a viable organization these days, is the worst bank I've ever used. Sadly, some 4 years ago, they had a decent reputation, so I refinanced my home loan to get a lower interest rate. However, recently I've tried to secure a hardship modification because I'm currently out of the state for work on a year-long government contract. Since everything about Citimortgage is terrible, I'll just say they are bonafide crooks out to ruin your credit and bankrupt anyone and everyone they can. Customer service doesn't exist. They drag you out in procedures until you are broke, all the while calling upwards of three times a day with additional text messages and emails in between, if you are so much as a week late with a payment. Literally, they drive you insane, starting from 9 am to 9 pm, every day of the week. Trying to get updates from one of three branch offices handling mods. is like pulling teeth. They trick you; it's a scam. They magically don't get paperwork you email, fax and mail hardcopy, sometimes several times and knowing you are broke because you're applying for a mod. they drag you right up to 90-days delinquent on your payments. This is to ensure your credit is ruined, and so you obviously can't refinance with anyone else. Then, they tell you, you don't qualify when all is said and done. It's a scam to keep you paying till you seek foreclosure. Like vampires, they drain you till near death on payments. As a seasoned public relations professional of more than 10 years experience, I now have a new mission to spread consumer word this bank should fold up shop for good. Avoid Citimortgage at all costs.

  • I applied for a refi on 2/19/10 for a closing date of 5/20/10. For two months everything seemed to be fine. Within the last 3 weeks all hell has broke loose. The under writer needs this or needs that. I transferred $18,000 from my savings account to my checking account and now Citimortgage wants to know where I got the money in the first place. I have tried to provide them with all requested info and have done so in a timely manner; however I am now threatened with penalties if we do not get this done by May 20. The only one that should be penalized is CitiMortgage since I have done my part during this application process. I believe this last minute harassment is their way of attaching additional costs to the refi loan. I believe this is a "legal scam" condoned and perpetrated by Freddie Mac and Fannie May. My advice: avoid CitiMortgage at all costs.

On April 15 I received an email stating that I was under final review and expect an approval within 3 business days. Two weeks later I received a letter stating that they need more documents. I call and am told that I am denied. I have too much money! But, I do not qualify for any other program because I don't have enough money. I am told I will need to do a short sale. They have asked for and received more than 25 fax packets of information from us which equals over 95 individual items of information that they requested for verification of their loan requirements. The only thing that came out of this process is their keeping of our $450.00 loan deposit. Non refundable of course. Today 4-27-2010 they closed our loan application and kept our deposit. • I have the same nightmare as other people described against CitiMortgage. It is the worst company in the world. It starts from my application of a modification. I was told my application was approved first time after they put me in trial plan. Several weeks later, I called again they said my application was denied, but I should wait to receive information. I called again they told me application is still in process and will send me some information. Then I received none but a delinquency notice and called again. They told me no need to worry about my application is still in process. In the meantime, they already put my house for foreclosure. I think this company is intentionally to steal. Is any attorney going to file a class action suite against Citimortgage or any suggestions to fight with this company?

  • Anyone having issues with CitiMortgage and the Delinquency Expense fees should file a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission and also your State Attorney Generals office or your states Consumer Protection Agency.

These fees are not in any part legal and are not included to be charged to you within your Mortgage note.

When CitiMortgage adds these fees they effectively add 10% plus to your yearly total cost of your mortgage.

For example if you have a 6% mortgage in reality you are paying 16% with these unfounded Delinquency Expense charges.

Oy Vey, The fleecing of America continues.

  • I can't even begin to express how frustrating working with Citimortgage!! the fact is they do not care about helping you -the troubled home owner to get the right loan motifigation!! Check this out:
    1. when I first called in, consulting for goverment loan assistance, they rejected me after they asked a few qustions that NOT including my income nor expenses, that's March 2009
    2. I called back again in a three months, same answer-no, not qualified!
    3. Call back again after I spoke to a friend who told me the 31% income rule, I called again-rejected again!! I questioned her about not asking me about my income or expenses, and requested her to explain about 31% rule, she changed her tone, said yes, you are qulified immediately!!
During the time I tried to get some assistance from Citi, since their misleading advice, I decided to take some proactive step-rent my lovely home, moved to a state where cost of living is low and luckly I was offered a job too! trial docs came, one of the conditions was I as the owner, must occupy the property!!! so I am not qualified!!!
    4. Dec. 2009 called them back explained my situation and the reason that why I made the relocation change, the answer from them is no-not qualified, there is nothing they can do! no any other options that I may qualify was mentioned!!
    5. Found out through reasch that I may qualified for Citi's loan modification, called them back, they answered "yes" "that's right". When I questioned why their professional advisor didn't mention this option to me before, was told "no comment" on that. Tried to apply-told me "no, you are not qualified, since your property is not rented."
    6. rented my place in Feb. 2010, called in, submitted all the docs that they requested, told me to wait... so I wait, wait, and wait... one month later, called in to follow up (by the way, I call them on a weekly basis), told me other docs are outdated, need new pay stubs blah, blah.. faxed over new docs... wait...
    7. last Sat. April 10th, called in, told me my application was rejected due to high income expense defict! But didn't advise how big is big. I told them my financial status has changed since Feb., so that guy guided me for all the questions-income vs. expenses... told me "you are not qualified this time, since your monthly positive is too great!!! " Ughhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.... can you image how that make you feel? then I asked him please define "too big", he unwillingly sqeezed out "-$300 and $300" guideline!!!

I am seaking for legal help now to see if what my right is. if you have any good referal, please post on this web....

  • Citimortgage only looks to their benefit. My husband became unemployed last June since then I have tried getting assistance from them. They offered me a principal loan reduction..after submitting all paperwork they declined it because my house to income ratio was too high--hello---otherwise i wouldn't be requesting assitance. then i was told i could do a short payoff i submitted my offer them they came back and declined it saying they couldnot take a short payoff if i was intending in keeping my home. I am currently on a trial mod on my first loan then citi comes back and tells me oh we can't help you until your trial mod is permanent which wont be for another 6 months until i have made 6 pymnts for trial period..duh by then citi mortgage scnd loan will be charged off...who understands them. they dont get their facts straight.

  • I have the same problem as Larry from MN. I was told in early march 2010 I was now in a trial modification period. They continued to send me letters saying I was late, real late, super late, then in default. One rep would sau disregard the letters, that I am 'shown to be in a trial modification period'. A day later I was receiving another letter. This is real painful, because last year in early April I applied for a mod. through a third party called 'A New Deal' out of Criminalfornia. I paid $1995 only to be strung on and finally offered a mortgage modification in late August. Two weeks later they said I was denied because the mortgage, a first, was 'in second position' thus it appeared I was holding a second mortgage wich was unqualified for the 'obama program'. They can't even record the loan correctly! I lost the whole 2 grand, and got no modification. After bringing my account current over 2 weeks ago, they are contiuing to take $577 a month in auto payments that were set up ONLY TO PAY THE TRIAL MOD Payments! So, now I am 'current' but they are still taking out trial mod payments out of my acount. Since the house needs a new roof, etc, they may be getting their house back soon. • Well, I am so glad that I am not the only one. I am currently in hiatus with them because I sent them a check for my mortgage payment which they cashed, and now they are saying that I never paid for that month. I have been to the bank and they did the research to see who cashed the check and said that it was indeed CITIMortgage that cashed it. Where did they put my money???? They have no clue. Not one can provide papers showing where the check was cashed in their office. I get a phone call every 5 minutes from one of their representatives forcefully telling me that I need to pay it again or they will put a foreclosure on my home. When I explain that I have the papers and the canceled check from my bank stating they did indeed cash my check, they get Irate and hang up on me. Not 5 minutes later, another call from another agent stating the same thing. What am I to do. This is the second time they do this to me. The first time, I just paid it. And am still waiting for my refund for that check from last year. No one in the whole Citi place can tell me where it is or what they did with the second check. To top it all off, they recently upped my insurance escrow stating that my insurance went up and that I need to pay the remainder. Needless to say that I called the insurance company themselves to see why it went up and guess what? It did not go up, it went down. I had to request the insurance company to send me proof of that to send to Citi and have since sent it to them 18 times. They still have not fixed it. My house note is now up to 1000. a month when my actual house payment is only 624. Can anyone explain any of this to me? How can a company do such things to people and get away with it?

  • I agree 100% with all the complaints towards this type company,,,bad and confusing customer service, never return calls when they say they will, put you on hold forever and latter disconnet or transfer you back and forth...I thougt I was alone on this but I tried to modify my loan over a year ago, I have to wait this long and now they tell me I'm not qualified due to lack of information but I faxed every single paper work they told me to fax over,,,,and now they are sending certified letters saying I need to pay $12,000 after I've been paying a partial payment they told me to pay,,,so frustrating......what a company ....

  • Citi Mortgage flat out robbed me. Do not refi or do any business with Citi. I paid them a $445 fee in August 2009 after they guaranteed loan approval. After sending them the paperwork 3 different times they rejected the application 7 months later. The fee should have been returned with the rejection letter. Numerous e-mails and phone calls have been made to the loan officer and his manager who have stopped answering the calls. I will never stop until the money is returned. On another note, if you are struggling with credit card payments and have a Citi account, consider paying everyone else and not paying Citi.

  • terrible customer service....I refinanced my home through Citi last summer and the mortgage person from Michigan, Abigail Edwards, issued a check to payoff a debt despite the fact that I told her that it was not a valid debt, and provided proof. Now, I have been trying to recoup the $880 for just inder a year. The more I complain the more they ignore me.....if you're thinking of financing or refing thru Cit DONT DO IT!!!

    Anonymous 4/6/10 10:39AM

  • reading your comments and adding my own experience to them, i think we should go for a class action. I don't know which is their reason to send an approval and make you doing all the paper works even twice and one moment before closing to cancel under some obscure reason. all in all, most of us lost the citi broker's fee and plenty of time. this is so class action. or is there a classified law which prevents them for according mortgages to real working people?

  • We have had a mortgage with Citi for over 2 years and included in our mortgage note was a Timely Payment Rewards Addendum to reduce our rate for on-time payments after 24 months. This was not an automatic rate reduction... We had to contact them to request it, fax in the paperwork (because apparently they don't have it), call them again because they did not get back to us (after more than a month), first told they no longer offer that program (so they aren't honoring their legal contract), then told, sorry, wrong program. Then told, you need to wait three more months when the 24 month anniversary was almost FOUR months ago. Told I will need to fax in my paperwork again because they don't have the records. When connected to a customer service manager after over 20 minutes on the phone - he can not hear me and has not managed to call back - despite repeating my phone number accurately back to me!
DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY. I will be filing a complaint with the BBB because this is fraud.

  • we applied for a refinance and paid a $455.00 up front fee and were told we would close in 55 days. we were not able to speak with our loan prosessor in person. she would not return our calls. the loan went out to 120 days and they dropped it. they will not return our calls and we cannot get our money back. we feel we were scamed.

  • One login per account??? What is this? My husband and I are divorced. All I want is for us to have separate logins, so we both login and view the account separately. But NOOO. This is impossible because of "security reasons", each account can only have one login, even if it is a joint account. Really??? I was on the phone for 50 minutes, first talking to someone in India, then he transferred me to his supervisor in India. The static on the phone was SOOOO terrible, I could barely understand him. All I wanted was a separate login. No one could help me, or even say that I wasn't crazy for thinking that it was normal to offer that! They suggested my EX husband and I share our login and password info. Really, and you are worried about security?? Finally, they transferred me to another manager (after assuring me many times I was not going to get my way and be able to speak with someone who could make decisions and tell me a legitimate reason why they didn't offer this. This manager was nicer, however, when I finally said my peace and just asked for a valid explanation, he said for security reasons, and hung up on me. Then he proceeds to call my ex husband and state that I hung up on him, and he wanted to check back in with me. My ex gave him my phone # and the guy still never called me back!! AARGH, I am so disappointed. POOOOOORRR service and obviously either still living in the stoneage when a joint account means one person or they are too CHEAP to pay to add more people to their internet banking database, wish I guess is the latter. I am not one of those people that doesn't pay my mortgage, that is obviously why I wanted the login, so I could make sure it was never late. Stress leve = 10. Citimortgage is not a good company.

  • all those screwed by Citimortgage:
Under Section 6 of RESPA Citimorgage is required to acknowledge a request within 20 business days and must try to resolve the issue within 60 business days. You need to send them your complaints and we might need and should file a class action. they deny people based on????? their lies. all they want is our money for a "processing loan"...
call customer service and ask where to send your letter. i got some fax numbers and an address but not sure are the right ones, still looking.

  • CITIMortgage screwed me out of $550.00 in a refinace scam. Played me along for 4 mos after approval, and just waiting for the closing date, then they tell me I don't qualify. I have been a CITI customer for the last 5 yrs, I have never been late, and I am current with my mortgage. Nice customer relations CITI has!!

  • Citi broker P.E.with Citimorgage charged $500 for processing a refinance loan. not only that he didn't do anything but he lied accusing my management corporation for delay. Therefore, the lock in rate expires and he doesn't want to return the money. I am very frustrated and i will dispute it until i will get the money back. but i want that everybody to know CITI is a bad company and you should stay away from them.

  • wow, so i'm not the only person with Citi problems. i was told by the assumption department it would be 60 to 90 days to remove my ex-wifes name off the mortgage. A year later i'm told her name was off, then i get a customer service rep. recently tell me that she isn't. i called for my corrected 1098 form for my taxes. here it is almost the end of March. my first copy had my s.s number mixed with my telephone number. my ex-wife recieved my 1098 with my correct s.s. number and a totally different interrest paid amount. what a joke this company is. it doesn't do any good to write a letter of complaint, they won't respond. the best of luck to all you citi. customers...you'll need it. p.s. if you cuss they'll hang up on you. apparently i have nothing to be pissed about.

  • Wow! and I thought I was alone. Look around at all of these web sites with the same issues. Here are two more to get you started." http://themortgageinsider.net/mortgage-reviews/citimortgage-review.html/comment-page-13/#comment-29332, and http://www.afscanhelp.com/companies/mortgage-companies/citi-mortgage.cfm.
We made an attempt to take advantage of the help that was offered to us. We are hard working people that take pride in our families, communities, and we are people of integrity. Before I began the process of a loan modification through Citi-bank, my fico scores for all three bureaus were 798, all three! I have owned a condo for 10 years, lived in it for 7 years and I have been leasing it out for the last three years, never late not one time. I have owned my home for 3 years, never late, not one time. Every credit card, every utility bill, any and every bill that I have, has always been paid on time, hence the high fico scores.
Now here's my repulsive story in regards to Citimortgage and their horrible customer service and unethical practices. I will copy and paste my story because I am posting it everywhere that I can to anyone that will listen. Hopefully this will help prevent some unknowing family from going down this very destructive, stressful, unhealthy, road.
I have been in the process of acquiring a loan mod for the last year. It finally closed, after much turmoil, but when I tell you it was a night-mare, Freddy Kruger has nothing on CitiMortgage.
I have never been late on my mortgages not one time since there inceptions. I lost a large portion of my wages due to downsizing, and lost about $120,000 in equity depreciation in my home. I had to do everything I could to pay my mortgage on time, I used savings, credit cards, borrowed, whatever I had to do, but I have never been late. Before beginning this process I asked three different representatives if a modification would affect my credit. (My fico scores were 798 for all three bureaus) I was told, no it won't affect your score, it will only show that you are in the process of a modification.
The beginning of the process was so stressful that I found myself literally crying on the phone to one rep., because of the frustration from the stress of dealing with representatives that literally did not know what they were doing. "Unbelievable" All I could do was follow the instructions that they gave me and that's what I did to the letter. I was told I was approved, two weeks later I was told I wasn't approved, two weeks later I was told I was approved, and to begin making the trial period payment of $1,896.00. When I was told this, I put much emphasis on the question regarding my credit. "Will this affect my credit score?" "No Ms._____, it will only show that you are in the process of getting a home modification and that won't even be reported for at least three months."
During the course of the modification, I was sent finalized paperwork after the trial period, with a payment of $1,235.00 PITI. I sign the documents, had them notarized and mailed them back. I called to ask a question and was congratulated on the closing of my modification, by a underwriter named Ryan, with the congrats, he just happened to mention that my new payment was $1,786.00. I told him "no Ryan the final docs I signed, notarized and sent back, were for $1,235.00 PITI. (I hope you are sitting down) Ryan went on to tell me that they mailed me out the wrong documents. "Oops were so sorry" we will send out the correct final replacement docs @ $1,786.00mo for your signature right away." Was I in a nightmare, could this be real? YES it's real! Unbelievably real!!!
The loan modification is finalized, but guess what? It’s finalized with one payment in arrears. They close out my account with the new balance, showing me one month in arrears. How in the world do you open new acct. after a modification, where the entire loan was closed out to a (0) zero and still wrongfully show a payment in arrears. But I hope you’re still sitting down, because it gets better! Citimortgage had the nerve, the audacity to report to my credit bureau that I have been 4 x 90 days late on Citibank mortgage. I am so mad, that even typing this, my blood pressure has to be sky high right now, because I feel so much pressure, my neck gets so tight it's hard to turn my head, I can just scream right now!, I need to walk away for minute. Ok, I'm back.
I had AAA credit and no where on my credit report does it say anything about a loan modification, only that I have been 4 X 90 days late, which is a bald faced lie.
When you call them, you can never speak to the same person twice. Anything that a supervisor or rep tells you they are going to do in your favor, like fixing their mess, you can forget it, because you will never hear from them again.
I just called them yesterday to find out why they have note fixed this stupid mistake of theirs with showing me a month in arrears. They told me last week that it was because they had no record of my January 2010 payment. Asked me to do the research and send them the proof. I copied my Wells Fargo paid transaction page, faxed it to the number that was given, low and behold, the number was wrong. Spoke to a rep who said, yes that is the right number, not sure why it didn't work. She looked in the system and saw that the supervisor I spoke to also mailed a letter to my home with the instructions to mail the info to the self addressed address on the letter. The rep told me to wait until I received the letter and send in my proof that way, since she couldn't figure out why the fax number wasn't working. I mailed all of the info in the envelope provided, waited a week in a half, called to see if they received it and what was being done. Oh, they can't find it. Then this new rep gave me the same fax number that the other two had given me and told me to fax the info. (WOW) This is after being on the phone for 1 hour holding. Had to call back, spoke to another rep that said, "We see that you made your payment, but it wasn't posted to your account, I'm trying to find where the money was posted, she kept me on hold for 30 min, then the phone went dead. While all of this is happening they are surely still reporting false derogatory information to the credit bureaus. Today is 3/19/2010, I will not stop until this is rectified. You will surely see me when you look up, employees of Citibank. Remember Citibank is only the name of the Company; it's the people that work there, that is causing all of this distress.
I am willing to do whatever needs to be done. I was already looking for the CEO's info, that's how I stumbled across this blog. I am going to send a letter, I am going to call, I am writing the President, and I am calling channel 2 news.
Let me know if there is a site or document that anyone needs signed. If there is a news channel that needs people to come forth. I will even fly if I have to. This is wrong. I pray for all of the people that are sitting behind those desks and letting this happen, because you reap what you sow. believe that!

People, we have to stop sitting by and letting things like this happen, we have the control and the power. I totally disagree with John when he said “there is nothing we can do.” There is something we can do, if we are willing to put in the time. When the gas prices skyrocketed, we could have done something, not alone, but together. There were a lot of creative ways to drive the prices down, there still are. But we listen to people like John, who obviously have it all together, and plenty extra money in the bank. We could have only purchased gas from one of the Brands, and guess what. I bet the others would have come down on their prices, or would have gone out of business. (and you know they are not going to do that.) The greed and unfairness has gone too far. We are the ones with the power. We have to utilize it. But we don’t want to be inconvenienced, so sit by and let it happen. Well I’m going to be inconvenienced.

God bless everyone that has been affected. I truly believe that what the devil has meant for our harm, God will surely turn around and use for our good!

Does anyone know how to post our names, email addresses and phone numbers so that we can get in touch with each other. It’s not permissible to do that on the blogs?

  • I went to a CitiMortgage lending consultant (for a loan pre-qual) in San Francisco Financial District. I have a 2pm appointment. I arrived at 1:35, looked for the guy and realized he is on the phone. He knew I was waiting. 1:50 came, he finished talking, walked passed me, nodded, used his phone again and walked away. 2pm came, I sat closer to him, and waited until 2:30. He was talking to a person inquiring about a load refinance I think. He could've just acknowledged me or apologize, but NONE of that happened. I was so upset. Then I told him I have an appointment at 2:45pm, I have to leave. The personal banker sitting across from him said..."the lady's waiting for you.". Then he hanged up the phone, and told me.."Thank you for waiting.". I find this guy so unprofessional and airy. I am a citibank customer, but I will give my business somewhere else...maybe Wells Fargo.
I got my pre-qual letter, but I left so disappointed with the customer service I got.

  • I would agree with all statements regarding the customer service support by this company. I had a loan with them and wanted to refinance, which they told me that once I put up the $250.00 loan application that only $50.00 of it would be non-refundable. Well they LIED, and kept the $200.00, which was part of the fee. I was told that since I changed my mind; it was a non-refundable exchange. Who has $200.00 to just give away in today's economic nightmare. Horrible, horrible service. If you have them as a mortgage lender - run, run very fast!

  • Like many I am experiencing hard times due to a drastic reduction in income.I was fortunate to have my loan modified to a payment that I can afford.

The guidelines of the loan modification agreement as published by the treasury department clearly state that all late fees accrued by the borrower will be waived.

Since the loan modification agreement was completed Citimortgage has been trying to bill me for an extra $248.30 for something they call a "Delinquency expense fee "

Everytime I call I get a diffrent answer.
One person told me it was for an inspection fee. Someone else told me it was a reinstatement fee. Since all these charges were due to me being late it is my believe they all fall under late fee charges and due to the loan modification guidelines should be waived.

Since I get a different answer every time its my believe that Citimortgage did not even investigate it . They just tacked it on figuring they did not have to answer to anyone.

Has anyone had a similar experience ?
Can anyone advise on what action to take ?

    Thanks,
    Matt

They are unable to communicate the information you request via phone. They don't respond to letters promptly or at all or they don't send you the information you request even when you write the details for them.

  • Our experience has been pure HELL! We have been trying to refinance our home for well over a year now. All we get is.....we need this now, we need this now....we need this now, oftentimes being the same documents over and over. Our file was handed over to at least three different people each time the new having no idea what had been done prior to them receiving our case which then resulted in us faxing the same documents over and over. We can never get our supposed case worker to return calls in a timely manner and she is forever threatening to cancel our loan application. Refinancing should take 1 month tops and here we are in over 12 months already and still waiting. Citibank is a joke and if this ever gets finished I will cancel all of my citibank cards and NEVER use them ever again in my life for anything.

Then by some miracle you get a real person on the phone they send you to his voice mail again.. His name is Douglas Barry in Fredrick Maryland. This donkeys phone number is 877-538-3652 @ ext 1680220. Give him a call , don't worry he does not answer or just maybe he really does not exist. you are in the citibank twilight zone!!!!

Poor quaility sound; can't hear what the other person is saying, they mumble their name so you can not understand it and then state "I am sorry, you call has been routed to the wrong desk" "No, I can not transfer you, my phone does not have an exit out" Also, I have been disconnected several times.

  • Since my experience with Citi, I am sure this complaint will go nowhere, so this is for those folks who are looking for answers regadarding Citi's service. How interesting to see that in the Terms and Conditions "We reserve the right to modify, publish and utilize the submitted information at our sole discretion". So Citi reserves the right to "modify" my comments. Interesting.

For 6 months I have been "working" with CitiMortgage to find options to pay my mortgage. 4 months ago my income level plummeted, and as a result, got behind on my payments. I called Citi 2 months before it happened to see what options I would have. Basically, I was told, nothing. Their service has been deplorable, and for anyone out there in a similar situation I say, DO NOT waste your time. I have spent HOURS contacting Citi, hours which I could have been working and making money! They might call, but they won't leave messages, or they will hang up on you. My "file" was sent to an attorney for collections 2 weeks ago, unbeknownst to me until I got a letter in the mail. This was never mentioned by Citi even though I had talked to them the previous day. The letter stated they had been unable to reach me so had referred my case to an attorney. This was a boldface lie!!!! I was in FREQUENT contact with Citi, all initiated by me, except for one call last weekend. I even asked Citi specifically for the payoff amount which they claimed they couldn't give me - had to come from the attorney - yet when I talked to the attorney, I was told the fees are generated by CITI, and YES, they could have given me the payoff.

Yesterday I was told I could not even make a payment because the mortgage was in foreclosure. Today I called, and they asked if I was ready to pay the $6000 or so that I owed. So which is it - can I pay you or not. When I let them know I had a contract for sale on my house, they put me on hold for 10 minutes, then cycled me back through the automated system. Obviously, Citi is not the last bit interested in working with me.

My next mortgage will not be with Citi or a credit card or a bank account. I will survive this financial setback and I will be a borrower again. I will also make it my mission to blog and write letters and take every opportunity to inform others of the deplorable service from this company. Word of mouth advertising is still the best and this mouth will be saying plenty.

Citi received funds from the Obama bailout, but who is getting those funds?? Citi does NOT want to work with you. NO QUESTION. This is not a company to trust.

  • For the past 4 months, I have been working with CitiMortgage to refinance my 1st and 2nd mortgages, which are both currently with Citi. In November of 2009, I received an attachment to my mortgage billing statement from Citi that offered $500 off at closing if I were to refinance. I promptly called Citi and requested a quote to refinance. The Mortgage Consultant offered to refinance both my 1st and 2nd mortgage into one mortgage at a significantly lower rate through the DU Refi Plus program. I was very conservative in my estimate of my home value and discussed with the consultant of what would happen if the home value was lower upon appraisal. In a rush to get the deal completed, the Consultant reassured me that a change in value would not significantly change the refinancing deal we worked out and if it did, my application fee of $460 would be returned. The appraisal indeed came in lower than expected. It took several months (until Feb 2010) for Citi to come back to me with confirmation from their underwriting department. Throughout December and January, I repeatedly attempted to contact (via phone and email) my consultant. However, I received one response. The Consultant again reassured me the deal would get completed and went as far saying it would definitely be complete by the end of January 2010. The Mortgage Consultant finally, after receiving multiple emails and phone message from me a day, came back in mid February 2010 and advised that the 2nd mortgage was not able to refinanced through the DU Refi Plus program. This was the deal Citi offered me! I was not even seeking to refinance my 2nd mortgage originally. He also informed me that due to the appraisal being lower than the estimated home value, Citi's Underwriting department charged me an additional 1/2 point on my mortgage. To throw the icing on the cake, he informed me that the deal change was not Citi's fault and that I would still be saving substantial money, despite higher closing costs and higher monthly payments. It is definitely Citi's tactic to give a good deal upfront and then change it through the underwriting process. Now, I am fighting tooth and nail to get my $460 refunded, which the Consultant assured me would be refunded if the terms of the deal changed. After all of this, I am ready to cease all my business relationships with this pathetic company and definitely do not recommend the hassle of working with Citi.

  • This is a very sorry mortgage company. When the company makes a mistake and tells you they made a mistake and will take care of it, that's a lie. I am being charged Delinquency Expense fee of $84.00 on my statement. I am not in delinquency or have been late on my loan payments. This started in December 2009 and still is a open nightmare. I have called every month since then. Get the same information, you have not been late on your payment and this is still open and being investigated. Each month the $84.00 is being waived and you do not have to pay it. I called today 2/20/10 for a status. I did talk to one customer service person, stating the same information, still open; let me put you on hold to find out more information. I was on hold for 10 minutes and no one came back so I hung up and called back. Went through the automatic information pressed O and no one picked up then the phone hung up. I called back again. Went through the automatic information and the same thing, I was hung up on. By the company initially telling me that this was their mistake and an investigation will be made as to why this charge was applied to my account, if a bunch of bull ----! I went as far as making a copy of the previous statement to show that their was not any delinquent information to the statement. One customer service person asked me if I had received any documentation in the mail that stated a delinquency, appraisal, lawyer fee and the answer was NO!They also told me that I should have received some type of documentation in the mail that would inform me of this. I know there are a lot of people having problems with their mortgage loans, but I am not one of them. I think an account number was missed key and the company just want to charge me $84.00 to help out on some other delinquent loan. They are just trying to get additional money and don't care who they hurt or who's credit they mess up. I was told in January 2010 to call back in March 2010, but I have called each month starting with December 2009. It is a shame when a large Mortgage Company like this one, that has CSR hang up on you. I guess my name and number is RED FLAGGED. So be it. I am not going to pay the $84.00 a third-party expenses such as a property inspection fee, which I did not have my property inspected, property preservation costs, whatever, appraisal costs, not, and attorney fees incurred by CMI as a result of default. There has been no default, no adjustment on my loan and no late payments. Like I said, they are just trying to get money out of people that pay on time. Kiss my grits!!!!

    Thank you,
    P. Nichols

  • One year ago my wife and I started trying to refinance our mortgage to a fixed mortgage with citi, we talk to everyone, they recommended that they would put us on a modified program for 3 months trail period(last year)beginning in September thru November at a reduce amount, we paid that amount on time for 3 months in fact paid it ahead of time(we where very proactive in paying)at the end of that trial period we where never contacted to let us know the out come of the modified program,so we called to see what was going on, we where informed that we did not qualify for the modification, yet we got nothing in writing or a phone call telling us that we did not qualify and why we did not, talk to Supervisor who explained that we should receive something in the mail( we never did) but we where told that we had to make up the difference between the modified payment and what our regular payment was, and also this impacted our credit because it was consider a late payment. We paid the difference and if they would remove the late payment status on our credit report, even though we had made arrangement to pay at the end of November, plus our regular payment going forward, still to this day they have not remove the late payment status from our credit report although we have call many times. We have always paid our mortgage on time for the past 10 years and we where trying to be proactive in trying to refinance our current mortgage which goes up in August of 2010, at that time we will probaly walk away from our home because we fill that we will not be able to afford it at that time, we have tried other Mortgage companies but they tell us that we do not qualify due to our current credit status which is due to Citi's behavior in this matter, we are asking for someone out there to give us some direction as to what we can do at this time.

  • We have been attempting to have our mortgage modified since I was layed off Feb.6, 2009.
Our loan was purchased by Citimortgage in 2006. I started paperwork for their HAM program, and it was lost 3 times and acknowledged in May, lost again and finally we were to start July on a trial payment but once the paperwork came out it was to start in September. Citi messed with my credit ratings stating we had missed (2) payments but they were 'lost' in their system.
MONTHS of calling, getting India, and other countries. Each and every time through the given phone answering system. Horrible service, horrible. Left hand doesn't know what right hand is doing and each blames the other. No way to receive email, only snail mail or expensive overnighting by Citi, to wrong adresses.

  • After doing research that led me to this and several other sites regarding Citimortgage and their inept as well as alleged devious practices , I am returning my unendorsed insurance check to State Farm and requestng their approved flooring contractor do the repairs so that I do not become trapped in Citi's financial maelstrom. Thank God for the people who posted their experiences, and I wish them all well in extricating themselves from Citimortgage's grip.

  • This is my second dealing with Citi Mortgage when it came to an insurance claim. They hold your money until a percentage of the work is done. Problem is they do not even release enough to get the work started. It takes a minimum of two weeks for them to process anything and that is only if they enter it in the system correctly. Even when they fault you and your insurance company are the ones that are penalized. When you call their department you always get someone new that has to catch up on the account because they refuse to give you numbers for direct contacts or even management. My family and I are going to be out of our house another month because of this companies failures. If I did not love my house so much I would let them foreclose on it for dealing with that would be easier than dealing with them. I am so frustrated because I sent everything in advance this time because of the previous issues and yet they still fail to get things right. I cannot wait till my house is repaired and I will be refinancing. This company is nothing but a total failure. You would think with this world's economy they would want to keep their paying customers. I guess not because if they did, they would not hold my money that my insurance company paid me to make repairs.

I have written a letter to the Attorney General's office to complain and hoping that I can get resolution. If not, if I save one person from signing with them, then I have done someone a favor.

    Furious 2/4/10 7:04PM

  • So frustrated. Filed the necessary request for loan modification, and have heard nothing from CitiMortgage. Tried to call, always a different person and no one knows what is going on. Went to Citi Bank in my area and again no one knows what is going on. There is no specific person handling my claim, it appears it's going in circles down the toilet.

  • Who governs this company. If my research is correct they received 45 billion dollars to bail them out of trouble. Well I need to find a live person who understands the mortgage industry. I have been trying to make a payment on an account of over 25,000 and no one will give me any advise as to how they came up with this over due amount. The mortgage payments that have been made to date are missing a year and a half of payments. No one knows were the money went. So the payments have not been received and now they want a big payment all at once. So I have accepted an offer on part of my property to bring this account to date and it has been almost three months trying to get a partial release. Then today they say they can't release it without the full payment and another $300.00 all this while I sit on hold for over three hours. Someone needs to investigate this company and their business practices. Where is the government when you need them? I need help anyone got any advice on how to solve this.

  • We had Citimortgage with our recently sold home so went with them again with our new purchase. We are still waiting for a substantial escrow reembursement due from that sale. I totally agree, I wait an hour sometimes waiting to talk with a supervisor only to get the same person that answered the phone. Duh? Most of the time you can't understand them and they really don't give a care about your problem. It's just lip service. I am so disappointed in the service we have received thru customer service. Those (Americans) that worked with us were the most helpful and have no regrets dealing with them. I have been disconnected many times, then hoping to get an english speaking person on the next try, to no avail. They have had OUR money for over a month.....with "its in the mail" comeback till I am sick of it! Isn't there a higher, more ept representative out there to help?

  • I purchased a home in 2007. In 2009 I received a letter from the Md Health Department that my water has been contaminated with high levels of fecal coliform and E-coli and the water is unfit for human consumption, bathing, washing dishes and laundry. My family and I have been sick for over two years suffering from diarrhea, stomach cramps, headache's and nausea, direct symptoms from drinking contaminated well water. I found out in 2009 that there has been a law in effect that mortgage companies are required to have the water tested on homes that have wells prior to transfer of funds. (Underwriters oversight?) I have contacted Citi on countless and numerous occasions to help us with this problem since my family and I are unable to now live in the home and we have to pay to live some place else and they want us to continue to pay the mortgage even though the home was considered condemed in 2005 by the county Permits and Licensing. They have offered 0 help and we are at a loss. I will not take responsibility for their oversight. If anyone knows of any assistance please help me and my family it would be greatly appreciated,

  • My husband was laid off June 2009 from his job after 9 years with the same company.. Citimortgage took over our loan in 2006?
We used his severance to pay the monthly mortgage..Then we had to start paying cobra ins and with my health we couldn't lose MY medical or life ins....I filled out a hardship application in Sept/Oct 2009~ I have been calling often asking what is happening. I got a letter on Dec 5 2009 that stated I had 7 days to send in my proof of income..etc...and I didn't receive this letter until Dec 5th in the afternoon on a Sat. and it was dated Dec 1st 2009.
I got my paper work and faxed it on the morning of Dec 7th the seventh day...called back on Dec 10th was told they didn't get it in time and closed the case...But would open it back since I did send it in on time.
Was also told a counselor would call me by or before Dec 24th and if they didn't I could call them and they would give me the counselor's info...No call ever except for collections. I called was told no one has reviewed the case I would just have to wait..I called a couple of more time~ no change and was told by one employee I should have never been told that someone would call me on Dec 24th!! I called tonight to find out what was going on if there was any change yet..Was told that a counselor had reviewed my case on Dec 26th and was waiting on proof of income (that I had already faxed on Dec 7th) and waiting for me to update my workable solutions application....was told if I didn't resubmit/re fax proof or update app. that my case would sit in limbo!! I have also gotten workers that are from India and can't hardly understand them (I always ask to speak to someone in the untied states) Hubby and I our 4 months behind in our mortgage payments/credit is ruined. There are many, many sites that are bashing Citi and I Have told Citi this but they care. I am afraid they are stringing us along and they will foreclose anyway no matter what we do at this point...I have health problems and does my 7 year old..My hubby is in school till June 2010 to try to get a better job. The CEO of Citi is a foreigner..go figure....I am disgusted with Citi and I will be contacting EVERY agency that I find that can hopefully help me. if not we will walk away BUT not until I contact every state/national media outlet I can and let them know what fraudulent, lying, no good, greedy, moronic, crooks they are!!
Oh and I am outraged that Citi was one of the first in line to get their gov. bail out money and they won't help their customer's at all!! I wish the government would get a clue and investigate Citi and shut them down for good!!
Just google or type Citimortgage in your computer search engine and see how many sites pop up saying the same thing that is on here...How greedy of Citi!!

  • I tried to refinance with Citimortgage because our primary mortgage was with them. I thought this would be quicker since I've never been late with my payments. In fact, I always pay a few hundreds more than my monthly mortgage
I started in Sept. 2009. Finally, after submitting all their requirements in October, they replied that it may take a few weeks to process it. I've already spent almost a thousand dollars- processing and appraisal of home. I tried to follow-up with no response from them. Then in mid December, they respond telling me to submit 7 more requirements. I said that it would take more time to prepare all these added requirements. All this time , the loan officer only communicated with me thru email, never by phone. Then on Dec. 24, she writes me a letter -an ultimatum that 10 days from the date12/24would be my deadline for submitting the 7 requirements plus an additional 6 other requirements. I received this letter on Jan.3. I tried to call her, emailed her, call her manager- all to no avail. I called a customer representative who says my loan has been declined. I receive another letter after a week but dated 1/04/2010 stating that I withdrew my loan application. Complaining to management would be a futile thing to do.
I'm just telling this to forewarn future applicants to steer away from Citimotgage.
I'm just so busy with our new business now but once I have the time I'm going to transfer my mortgage to another company.

  • If I could give them a zero rating I would. Unfortunately the lowest the system allow me to give is a one star. This company doesn't even deserve a single star. I had a loan with them back in 2004. We have since changed to another mortgage company but they never closed out our loan in their system. Although it is clearly their fault I have been unable to address this with them. Their customer service is horrible and in India. I have already called 3 times to have the same fax ordered.

If you can steer clear of this company. They should go out of business.

  • Citi/CMI/CitiBank/CitiMortgage

I have battled Citi since June of 2009. The battle rages as of 12/31/09. My experience in claims, documantation and communication provide me a tiny yet affective defense against this group of orchestrated financial predators. Additionally, I received information from disgruntled employees, working for Citi, that made the difference in me losing my house to foreclosure or keeping the house. In addition, making conference calls, with Greenpath, to multiple Citi locations and the law firm that filed the foreclosure action here in Ohio, was helpful to let Citi know I was not alone. I am filing complaints with each of the states where Citi has originated telephone conversation about this issue. I have never experienced such a sophisticated plan to use deceptive communication methodologies to execute banking, and neither has anyone else. Having used this methodology to get significant TARP money, it may become clear to some that Citi has no scruples, morals or ethics as it pertains to mutually beneficial lending. Citi's planned web of deceipt fooled the US Government into "bailing them out". My point being - folks with less experience in legal matters and fewer resources than I have, would have lost their homes in foreclosure. The extremely compatmentalized divisions of Citi have been developed to provide CitiMortgage with an arsenal of response mechanisms that are not mutually beneficial for the lender and the borrower. BE CAREFUL! Citi is a predator that has conditioned the majority of their employees to walk the company line. In my case, Citi lost a payment and I demanded resolution before making my next payment. That upset Citi, so they executed a fraudulent lien. 3 Citi employees, of the more than 40 I spoke to, gave me significant details about Citi's internal policies. That information was one key to me being able to stand against this behemoth as long as I have.

  • We are Citimortgage holders (unfortunately) anyone that is trying to modify your loan with them according to the Homeowners Affordability and Stability you HAVE to be annoyingly persistant. My wife and I called them everyday for 4 months and were unrelenting; even went as far as writing our Congressman. Which, I don't know if it was coincidental or not, but 2 weeks after receiving a very detailed written response from our Congressman Citimortgage actually contacted us to let us know that they were going to rework our mortgage according to the plan passed by the Senate up to that point they had insisted that Citi wasn't a participant in the plan. So, anyone that is struggling as we were don't give up.

  • I have my home financed by CitiMortgage (not by choice)and I have to say this company has the worst customer service in the world. I have yet to get to talk to an American when I try to ask a question and most of these peopole have no clue as to what I am asking them for. My husband passed away and I have been trying to find out if I need to do anything concerning the mortgage and all I get is a run-around as they switch me from one number to another continously! I talked to 5 different people yesterday and today they called me and they hung up on me!! I certainly will never reccommend them to anyone for mortgage service!

  • CitiMortgage is the worst company to work with regarding mortgage needs. They are nothing but backstabbing bloodsuckers who are only out to make a profit. They dont care about their customers or customers needs.
My husband and I were laid off this year. We purcahsed our home three years ago for $177,000 and made timely payments for three years until the lay off. Then we made two partial payments and missed a payment on our mortgage. We sold our property at a loss because we sold it for less than it was worth. When we attempted to pay off the balance which we believed to be $169,000 but Citimortgage added exorbitant interest fees that equaled what the house was purchased for. The payment was sent to them early enough, so that they would have to refund us some of the interest fees which was almost $1500. They took over four weeks to send the check and when it arrived it was short almost $500. We really needed this money as we are struggling and its all we made from the sell of the home. We contacted them 4 different times and were told various things i.e., the money was sent in 3 different payments, etc. The check never arrived and then we were told that the money was held for some back insurance which is outrageous especially since we paid $7000 in interest. The point is that they robbed us and we are going to file a suit, the amount owed may not be much but its the principle of the entire situation. Because of their greed, we got nothing from the sell of our home and are on the verge of homelessness.

Will never refer anyone! 12/11/09 8:45AM

  • Needless to say. I am frightened by the lac of support by the Government. Not a handout, but no one is minding the store. I have been in a loan modification for nine months. I began with Giving a Mortgage Help Company in Bakersfield who promised to help with a loan modification. They took 3,500 and are now practicing business in Utah. GreenLeaf Modify was working with Mortgage Help. They too have left the picture. I have been on my own for about six months trying to get the paperwork through. I have sent 8 hardship letters. They still to this day say they have not received it. They have have now requested a 4506T letter (This is an IRS form) in order for Citimortgage to view tax returns. They say it is expired. How can a form be expired when the tax returns have not changed. They had this form. Looked at the tax returns, and what? They do not need this form again. These are just a few of the things I have experienced. Many of the phone calls I have made are to people who are customer service overseas. They speak English. They read off of a screen, and many times do not know what they have just read to you. Their accents are so thick I don't know what they said.
To date, I have made my last payment in accordance with a trial period program that they put me on. They (a person in customer service)told me that my file would be going to an underwriter, and that I should be getting my paperwork within 30 days. That was November 1. I made my December payment. Still I have not received any paperwork. Meanwhile, they are sending me letters telling me that I owe $$. I do not owe them that much as I have never stopped making payments. They have placed my funds in what they describe as "Unapplied Funds." They do not show this money. Therefore, I have been reported to the credit bureau and now, even if I wanted to rent, I cannot. My credit has been ruined.

I too would like to go postal. Is anyone looking at these records? Citimortgage needs to be regulated and taken over--not by the government! Someone--Congress--Anyone needs to look at these complaints. These experiences are the topic in many radio talk shows. Is anyone listening?

What are we to do? I am continuing to make a modification payment, but with the consequences of not making any payments at all.

No charges were incured such as appraisal or title search. Still no money back. Further more you can't talk to amyone higher up on the chain of comand. Totally frustrated in NY.

  • Living in Michigan, I was unemployed, wanted to keep my home and was actively seeking jobs. Confused, I called Citimortgage to see about getting a loan modification.

I called CitiMortgage in March 09. They told me that unless I was 30 days past due they could not help me.

So I went 30 days past due and started the loan modification process which is 90 days and lots of paperwork. Trial period to end in August. They lowered my interest rate to 2% (from 6%)and the new loan amount was half my usual monthly premium ($980). They told me all I have to do is make payments on time, provide proof of income and complete their questionaire.

I made all the payments on-time, answered several of their calls and providing all the necessary paperwork they requested, to keep in good standing.

In early August they wanted me to show that I had income for the next 6 months. I sent them proof of 6 months of extended unemployment benefits. I was told the modification was going well and that I would have an answer in a week or two at the most.

I was now looking for contract work out of state because of the increasing jobless rate in Michigan.

I considered 3,6,9 month contracts out of state to keep the house while my family stayed behind. I could have even rented the home and taken my family with me (my monthly premium was less than $500).

Two weeks later I got their mnessage in the mail that I was denied and they told me that there are other modifications available and that I would now have to pay the full premium and make forebearance payments to get current. In the meantime my credit declined severely because I was 4 months behind on my mortgage payments and it was reported to the Credit Bureau.

Throughout this process my phone calls were not returned as promised, there would always be a new department or case manager assigned each of several steps along the way.

Soon after receiving the denial letter, I was offered a position in Missouri and in early September I moved my family there.

I have since received a couple letters from Citimortgage stating the want me to pay several thousand $$ of forebearance I owe to avoid foreclosure, which seems to be the only option at this time.

  • I have been working on a loan modification with Citimortgage since August and they have screwed it up every time. They now have sold my house out from under us claiming we did not receive the mod paperwork. When they gave us the tracking number for the paperwork it was in MD, we live in IL. So because we didn't get the paperwork in on time they sold our house!!!!! No one can tell us what is happening! The real estate company that bought our house called us this morning to see if we had arrangements to move! Citimortgage is unbelieveable!!!!!! This is why people go postal!!! I went so far as to file a complaint with the OCC but have not heard back from them.

offshoring OK but them not being able to help or have the knowledge needed to decide weather to wire or mail it is not helpful.

  • Citi Mortgage is the worse company ever. They do not want to do anything to work with customers. I have been trying to get my loan modified since Feb. and as of today there is still no progress. To make matters worse they had the audacity to increase my payment by $20.00, stating that it was due to the escrow. I continued to make my payment in the amount that I was paying w/o the increase. Low and behold, CitiMortgage sends me a statement that they did not receive my payment, increased my payment, and charged me a late fee. I am so livid with this company I don't know what to do. If anyone is being offered a mortgage loan I would advise you to look elsewhere or you will pay for it in the end.

  • Citimortgage is the worse company I have ever had to deal with. No one knows what is going on with that company. Every month I get a new representative and they have no clue what is going on. I have tried to make my payments every two weeks, but unless I give the $400 I can do that. I had started doing that when I original got the loan, but it wasn't Citimortgage. Citimortgage brought my loan and now it's been nothing but problems. I don't have $400 to just give to someone. This company is the worse.

    talowe0125 11/30/09 12:31PM

  • I should have visited this site before responding to CitiMortgage's request that we refinance our current mortgage to take advantage of the lower interest rates.

Citi bought our mortgage approximately two years ago. We've never missed a payment, nor have we ever been late on payments. Our credit scores range from 790 - 813, for both my husband and myself. We wanted to refinance and shorten the life of the mortgage from the remaining 27 on the original mortgage to 20 years. Our mortgage principal is slightly less than $150,000; our property appraised at between $385,000 to $440,000. Our income is approximately $160,000 annually, and our only long-term outstanding debt is this mortgage, and 2 car loans. We pay our credit card debt on a monthly basis, but we do have three small deferred payment accounts---for furniture and appliances--totalling less than $3,000. We have investments exceeding $300,000, more than double the loan amount.

We were told on the telephone that we more than qualified, and that all that was needed was the paperwork. However, we did need to send two years of tax returns to prove we were reporting our income...both my husband and I are retired, and our incomes consists of social security, pension, and trust income.

This whole saga started three months ago, and every time I've tried to contact my loan consultant or processing consultant, I've been unable to reach them. I finally got to the processing consultant by calling the loan consultant, and complaining about not being able to talke with the processing consultant. She was unable to answer my questions. I tried contacting the loan consultant again, and left three messages over as many weeks. I finally threatened to cancel our application, and a "manager" contacted me. None of the three seemed totally knowledgeable, although the manager seemed to be a bit more "in the loop". She said she'd see what she could do to facilitate the processing, and she said she could easily see that there should be no trouble with us qualifying for the refinancing.

Shortly thereafter, we got an abrupt letter saying our refinancing application had been denied, citing too limited income and "inappropriate" property. The problem? Much of the trust income is tax-free, and we run a business which shows a loss. The people evaluating the tax returns are used to simple 4-5 page 1040 tax returns, rather than complicated 56 page tax returns showing somewhat unique sources of income. They just don't know what they're doing, and they don't bother to call you back to try to straighten it out.

It's easy to see why the finance industry is in trouble, when they'd turn down this refinancing...and opt instead, no doubt, for a more risky (but easier to understand) application. I really think they just wanted to collect the application fee, and didn't care at all about refinancing the loan.

They've probably done us a favor; we'll refinance elsewhere. But I sure wish I'd known how terrible their service and knowledge was before I went to the effort to collect the information they wanted. I'd never recommend CitiMortgage to anyone!

  • This mortgage company (citi) is the worst in customer service that I have ever dealt with when you get the mere chance to talk to a real person. They are rude and very uneducated. I have been attempting to go through a loan remodification for at least 6 months when I get 3 letters in the mail telling me that I was declined. I was set up on a mortgage payment plan, to pay a certain amount on a certain date and as long as I kept to that agreement, I would have no problems. I was assured that I met the qualifications over the phone, but it was a matter of sending in the actual paperwork, which I needed to send several times. This was all a verbal agreement with Citimortgage. Once I received the decline letters, I was obligated to pay the difference between my original mortgage payment and the new one they had given me in less than 30 days or they were going to notify the IRS. Several attempts to talk with the appropriate citimortgage staff were unsuccessful. After speaking to several people and I got "No Where" I asked to speak to a supervisior, after waiting on hold for 8 min. I then got a supervisior, who was equally as rude and unintelligent. In an attempt to work something out with the mortgage company to stay in my home and pay my mortgage has left me wanting to just walk away from my home and citimortgage. I thought that once the government had given these mortgage companys stimulus money that they would use it to help the consumers. But I think that all those people at the top of the food chain of Citimortgage are going to have a FAT Thanksgiving and Christmas! I just hope they will be thankful enough to send Obama and his family a Thank You card.

  • I am in the process of refin.my loan to 20yrs.my credit score is 736 & husband 751. My score is off because credit bureaus (2) reported her acct. I am only a user not liable for her acct. I have given everything they have asked for & the Credit Card co. that my daughter uses has written a letter to Citi. THey say I have to fax 12 mos of cancelled Checks from my daughter. I am feed up with them but I am out so much on refinacing that I can risk losing money. I told them that this was harrassment. I can get it threw to them that I am not responsible for my daughters debt. They will not listen. I am going to file a report to Citimortgage, Gov. Ga.,Obama & anyone else I can think of. It is amazing that once you give citi the info that shows you are not responsible for an acct.PROOF!!! THEY STILL WILL HARASS. I will never ever recom. chase to anyone. This has been the worse experience of my entire life & At 60 that's a lot.

  • If I had the money I would pay off this loan so I don't have to deal with this morons anymore. I am going to take care of my own insurance and taxes instead of putting it in escrow and letting them handle it, because they can never seem to get it right!

  • The other complaints about Citimortgage mirror exactly the troubles we've had in trying to receive a loan modification. We started working with them last june and after being told we were prequalified for modification, but not approved,we were to begin paying the modified amnt which we have done. But we only just received the long promised modification papers on November 11th and now the trial period will being AGAIN. We had to make multiple phone calls to finally get this paperwork because departments had miscommunicated and they had not halted the foreclosure thing. These modification papers are well organized but very complicated verbage. THIS HAS PROLONGED THE AGONY AND WE STILL FEEL VERY UNSAFE. IT DOESN'T MATTER IF JOB LOSS OR HEALTH ISSUES ARE TO BLAME, ONE STILL FEELS TOTALLY AT THEIR MERCY. They have said that even after all this, we may not be approved and would have to try something else with them to be able to stay in our home. NOT A GOOD COMPANY TO DO BUSINESS WITH.

  • I have been trying since Oct.13,2009 for Citimorgage to send the money from my insurance check so that the contractor can statr the work on my roof. As of to day Nov.5,2009 I still have no check. They have lost paper work which was faxed to them 2 times.Made sure the last time it went through to their hands because I made the stay on the phone until they said they got it. Can you imagine them not being ablr to know if a fax came through their system for 48 hours!!!! Then after promises of expeditng the check I still do not have it nor has it been sent out Fed ex. It takes up to 7 days to get out of their system to fed x!!! I'm sure glad they want to protect their interest in my house. I am going to try to find someone to check out citimorgage operation. Maybe attorney general.

  • I have been making payment on my adjustable rate mortgage for the last 22 years. I never missed a payment. The loan payment was agreed to be drafted from my checking account on 10th every month. This arrangement of making monthly payment by drafting my checking account on 10th was entered into with the previous loan servicer, 1st Nationwide Mortgage (FNMC), & continued after FNMC merged with CitiMortgage in 2003.

A recent audit of my payments discovered that for the last 2 years CitiMortgage has been charging me undisclosed $10 drafting fee every month. I did not agree to any fee for this EZ payment by drafting my account on 10th. In response to my inquiry, I learnt from your customer service that a mass mailing was sent out to all CitiMortgage clients that effective August 2007 such service fee will be applied to all accounts that the payment was drafted after 9th. I did not get any such notification & I was not aware of any such change otherwise I would have agreed to debit my account a day earlier on 9th instead of 10th.

My request to CitiMortgage to look into the matter of refunding the unfairly charged fee has fetched no response. Any notification to the change in terms of monthly payment should have required my acknowledgment.

  • I am a frustrated client who is unable to get answers. I have been extremely patient and doing my best to be cooperative. I was on a loan modification since 02/09, and I have been paying my payments on time. However, when the modification was approved on 09/11/09, I was full of joy and hope. Furthermore, to confirm my approval I called Citi and the associate verbalized that my mortgage assistance has been approved. Unfortunately, Citi played with my heart and my family’s dreams of staying in OUR home. After a couple weeks of closing my case, Citi decided to reopen my case and requested another paystub, only to deny us. I sent in my husband’s paystubs every other month and we were approved and I even have the proof in writing from Citi. I have collected voice recordings from conversations with your employees, as well as my own written documentation of the overwhelming modification period. I was even told several times that Citi will place a block on my credit report that too was a lie. As a result, my credit is crushed and I cannot get any type of loan (including an education loan, which I need). I even called in today and spoke with Artun in Customer service to attempt to get the total amount owed possibly adjusted, he was going to have his supervisor call me back. I heard that line several times before, no one ever calls. I want to keep my home, but I don’t know what else to do. I have further details, such as names and numbers of all the people I have spoken with (5 pages worth). To conclude, I would like a manger or someone who can actually help me get the answers I need, besides being told to Short-Sale.

  • CitiMortgage should fail, the right had does not know what the left is doing. I have made 37 phone calls to the lost mitigation department checking on my loan modification. I received a letter stating CitiMortgage received to modification. When you call the Lost Mitigation Department all they can say is Ill send a email to an associate conserning the matter. When I started this process I was not behind on my mortgage. Now Im one month behind. Way to go CITI!!!!
This is a failed institution, and Its primary mission is greed, not helping people.

THINK ABOUT IT, THE EXECUTIVES AT CITI WANT AS MUCH MONEY AS POSSIBLE DAMN THE PEOPLE, THE COUNTRY, THEY HAVE BUSH, OBAMA AND CONGRESS TO BAIL THEM OUT WHILE AMERICANS LOOSE EVERYTHING.

  • I am so pissed at the jokers. Been trying to refi and take advantage of the very low market rate. I applied and was approved back on March 6, 2009. Today is Oct 8 and still not closed. I have spent over 20 hours per month calling (getting voicemail 99.9% of the time & they don't call back). They have continually delayed the processing for made up reasons or no reason at all. I have excellent credit (800+), lots of positive equity, a consistant income of close to 6 figures and I have never missed a payment on anything in my life. I have provided them all my documentation more than once. Funny thing is they have want multiple appraisals and go with the lowest (they even went so far as telling me my home dropped $23k in 3 months which was apprx 8%. I don't buy that for a second. They say my home is worth almost $40k less than the county appraisal. Anyway it has been 6 months and still not closed, recieved a call today with counter offer of bringing $14k to closing, or taking todays rates, or having mortgage insurance, none of which of these options would have been necessary even a month or two ago.

This company sucks - they simply do not care even if you threaten to take your business elsewhere. These people do not do their jobs. Unbelievable how they treat consumers. I WOULD NOT EVER RECOMMEND ANYONE TO DO BUSINESS WITH CITIMORGAGE!

  • This is the only way I have found to help myself with CitiMortgage.. You can help yourself also if you will do this..

    1. Write up a complete description of what CitiMortgage has done to you, from the day that CitiMortgage came into you life.. This needs to be in e-mail ready form and can be in letter form also.. But e-mail is faster and then you can send out letters after you are requested to.

The way I did this was
-put the address I have given you on your "computer address line" press go, the information will come up, send your complaint and story to as many and all the people you can, I would send to ALL of the states, because CitiMortgage is hurting people in all fifty states and beyond.. This is not just for you but for thousands of Americans.. all over the country.. Lets get together and help ourselves, I am done being abused by Citi..
When you are done with this list look for more people you can tell..

    2. Keep or document everything they do, such as all mail they send, all threatening phone calls you have, all people they send to your house (this would be documented in a written form such as diary, or running record. All of these items need to stay together.

    3. Send the e-mail letter to Occ in Houston Texas they control the large banks.

    Customer.Assistance@occ.treas.gov

Make sure to include your property address, and your complaint, they will review it and send you a Complaint number, they will then contact CitiMortgage..

Send you problem to HOPE, they will help you help yourself, with your Mortgage, they are a company that our new government has founded to help us..

  • We were working with Citi to modify our mortgage. We have been getting the run around ever since. First they told us to pay a modified amount. We did. Then when we went to finance our car in June (it was a lease) we found out that they were reporting us as late. We called again and again getting a different story everytime. Some representatives told us we were in a trial period and some told us we were not modified at at all. At the end of July a rep told us we have to start over and at the end of a trial period they would clear our credit (which is still showing late, even though they have told us a new lower amount which we have been paying early). We were told we would receive paperwork in 2 weeks. 3 weeks went by we called. We were then told it takes 30 days. We waited 2 more weeks and called again. We were told then it took 45 days. We waited a total of 60 days and called again. We were told the papers would be mailed out 9/28. I called again today (three times) and were told by one rep. 3 more weeks, another rep that papers have not been ordered and yet another saying papers were sent out 9/28.

Unfortunately I went online only to find out that we are not the only ones this is happening to. (http://www.consumeraffairs.com/finance/citi_mortgage_p2.html)(http://www.complaintsboard.com/bycompany/citimortgage-a25277.html) This is apparently a pattern with Citi and homeowners are losing their homes even though they are paying their mortgages. We are concerned that Citi appears to be refusing to provide us any paperwork. (Other than recorded phone calls we have no proof of the modification.) When I asked to speak to a manager, they refused that request as well. They are still reporting us as paying late and last week we received one of those foreclosure threat letters. I think at this point we need to report this to some regulating agency or news agency but not sure who.

  • Hello,

Citi holds the 2nd mortgage on my house, about 30k. 8 months ago, my house was flooded by river overflow. Citi took charge of insurance funds distribution which was to be given in thirds, totalling some 45k. I received the 1st third to begin my repairs. After submitting receipts and having a progress inspection, spent out 9k forcing a fight for the additional 6k. Nearing completion, I'd given a 30-day notice to the rental I'd been occupying during remodel and requested a progress inspection and final funds distribution from Citi a the same time, the end of August. I didn't get my inspection until last week even after pleading my time sensitive issues. Citi did finally send out my final check just yesterday via the United States Postal Service standard delivery which might take upwards to 2 weeks, not over-night as promised, mailed 1 week later than promised. I've moved back into my home, thankfully. Unfortunately, no paint, flooring or working bathroom. I had plenty of time to complete my remodel. My wife and I explained we were moving back into our house w/o a working shower which would have been completed had they not done seeminly everything to hang on to MY money.I feel that either the Citi system is broke or the insurance claim management department was messing with me. Help me address this issue please. I feel burned by this process and will tell everyone unless satisfied. My apologies for my rant.

    Be Well,

  • I've tried to get a resolution on something that is their mistake. I have spoken to the customer service department twice. The first time they said they could not tell me "why" it had happened. The mistake resulted in a late charge... when calling to try to resolve it, I was hung up on. I wasn't even being angry, but I trying to tell the rep that I couldn't understand him. The representative was from India, there was no mistaking that... what a sad thing we have started doing - - sending our US jobs to India in this time when so many need jobs.

  • CitiMortgage, is a criminal entity working under the government of the United States. This company has more complaints that mirror eachother (are the same) then any other company I have ever seen. The people that answer the phones are trained to be abusive and to not help the customer.. I swear this company has a score board for their employees to see how many can be rude, swear, hang up on, threaten, etc. The sad part of this entire mess I and thousands find themselves in is we didn't sign up for nor did we allow citiMortgage permission to take our Mortgages they just did. My belief is they are literally in business to steal money off of the home owner who sends in their payment and then say the loans are in default and then steal the house to make huge money after the home owner has paid for approximately half or more of their loan, this is convenant and makes more money for CitiMortgage.. Americans all over should be proud that our United States allows a large corporation to steal people money so they can live large and happy.. And America and all of their laws just say to Citi, good job, continue to harass and steal from the people make yourselve feel good..
This is what I fought for, this is what we call freedom, CitiMortgage personnel should be accoutable, they should pay and go to jail for fraud..

  • I had insurance covered damage totalling approximately $18,000. The insurance company made the check minus 20% depreciation to me and CitiMortgage. After multiple call I found I needed to complete (In addition to the insurance company detailed estimate):
    Loss Summary Worksheet
    Certificate of Intent to Repair
    Signed Contractor's Bid
    Conditional Waiver of Lein
When these were received and approved a partial payment was issued. No other payments would be CONSIDERED until 95-100% of the work was completed, an inspection was scheduled completed and report approved. Unfortunately most contractors don't have the financial latitude of Citimortgage and can postpone payment to sub-contractors for weeks on end after work is completed. This means that I am left to underwrite CitiMortgage and pay for work and hope that I will receive the remainder at some point.
Speaking with multiple people in the CIti Property Damage unit were sarcastic and rude. Multiple calls to reach someone higher up resulted in the "no one is available" or "he's in a meeting".
I might understand there reluctance is my mortgage had not been paid on time for 15yrs and even acellerated payments made or that the total amount that they were holding is less than 8% of the outstanding mortgage to CitiMortgage.
They get billions from the government and they still need my $12,000?

  • CitiMortgage plays a very nasty gsame of hardball if they so choose.

They are very difficult to deal with. They do not feel the necessity to be honest. Integrity is not a word in their vocabulary.

They do not return calls if they do not want to. They find a way to obscure mitigating circumstances, and deny what is self-evident to anyone else.

They can violate their own policies and then lie about it. They refuse to acknowledge mitigating circumstances, like an insurance company so far behind in its paperwork that proof of coverage falls well outside (two months) of the 45 day requirement for furnishing proof of coverage.

CitiMortgage failed to accept proof of bound coverage when my insurance company told them coverage was bound (not once, but four times over two weeks), in writing and by phone. CitiMortgage bought forced placed insurance for me, after coverage was bound, which violates their own policy. They made several other errors including telling me they would NOT buy coverage for me for the next three weeks, then they bought it the very next day. They bought it for the value of the structure, after telling me they would buy it in the amount of the loan.

They told me it was impossible to refund the full premium. That was a bald-faced lie. Because my agent went on vacation, my policy lapsed for twelve days. Normally, this is not an issue when coverage has been bound. It becomes an issue when no coverage has not been purchased after a reasonable time has passed, in this case, two months.

When I told them forced placed coverage was a no-cost item to them, per their forced placed insurance company, since they controlled the purchases and refunds of (retroactive!) forced placed coverage by their computers, they repeatedly deined this. So far, they have refused to furnish a copy of the policy they bought for me.

Then, when threatened with a lawsuit, they refunded the premium, that same premium they had told me was impossible to refund. This took a month, and perhaps 30 phone calls.

I can't begin to tell you how good this company is in denying the obvious, blaming policy, avoiding a valid issue, denying responsibility for anything that is their fault, ignoring the fafcts and circumstances, including a client with excellent credit and a 25 year perfect payment history, and generally ignoring common sense, good judgment./ By anyobne's book, they failed to practice good faith and basic integrity (a violation of RESPA, a federal law that governs the conduct of mortgage sellers and servicers.

Their employees apparently are told to lie if it suits Citi's purposes. They lie about what is obvious and self-evident. They are probably trained to do so.

Go elsewhere if you can, and deal with a company that realizes it is YOU that pays their salaries. No one needs to take a chance and end up dealing with a bunch of scoundrels.

  • After reading this site for while my husband decided to do the modification, I was pretty terrified. We decided to go ahead with the paperwork and pay the regular amount of our mortgage after the three months, which I think we could have continued making regular payments anyway. We started in March and yesterday (July 28, 2010) we were approved. It's official. It's on the website. My new payments are listed. We called the regular Citimortgage line and they said we do not owe any back pay or fees; that they were all waived. We got a reduction of about $470 a month on a 30-year fixed mortgage with 4.25 for the first six years, then six something after that. After 10 or 15 years, I believe the payments will be back up to where we are, but we are now paying on principal whereas we had an interest-only loan before. I will keep you all posted.

  • We were in the midst of refinancing our mortgage to a lower rate after being solicited by Citi who had had our present mortgage when I came upon these comments. Needless to say it caused some concern.

We were holding our breath but the transaction concluded without a hitch.

We mentioned the problems we had read about to the Appraiser and CPA who came to our house representing Citi, and they said that they were aware of the problems and the training of Citi's representatives was just now catching up with the work load caused by this refinancing program.

There had been no problems since Citi took over our previous mortgage from another company about five years ago.

I appreciate the difficulties you are all experiencing. We have been in similar circumstances ourselves only not concerning our mortgage.

we wish you the very best in this matter.

  • I would like to give thanks to a Supervisor from your company that straighten out a situation that was going in the wrong direction. I had sent in an escrow shortage payment of $400.00, but was only credited for only sending in $174.12. I noticed that on my bank statement that no adjustment had occurred for when I sent in the $400.00,But only for $174.12) and called to get it cleared up. I had spoken to an employee and she said that it would be cleared up and to check back in a couple of days to make sure. I did check back in a few days and still found that there had been some correction made , but that not enough. I was speaking, to someone whos name I do not recall, and could not seem to make him understand that I had sent in the extra money to drop my escrow payments. He kept on telling me the the escrow is always changing. I told him I knew this and that is why I receive these statements to try and adjust. He still didn't seem to understand what I was trying to get him to understand. I then requested to speak to a supervisor and just after a few short minutes I was speaking to, forgive me if I mispell his name, Mr Anubam. He put me on hold for only a few short minutes and new exactly what I was trying to explain. I have never have dealt with someone who could cope with someone in such a calm manner and understand the situation so fast in all the years that I have dealt with any company . He would like to say that I feel that he is a valuable asset to your company and represents them in the highest degree. He was kind, pleasant, well manered and high ability to understand the situation and grasp it so fast shows how high his IQ must be. I should hope that in the future you mold your company on individuals on Mr Anubam. I have never been to gratified and and satisfied when someone before. In fact don't think that I have ever or even rarely taken the time to thank one for their excellent services. Again I would like to thank Mr. Anubam. Have a Great Day!! Craig B Jakielek

  • I process loan in Citi Mortgage. If you people only knew Citi's feelings toward it's customers you would never do business again with my company.
Some of Citi's policies and practices almost fall in the category of theft. Someone like Geraldo Rivera could dig up enough story to win a pulitzer prize. All the good you see about Citi is all for show. This is the worst company I've ever worked for, ever!
