I was in the process of refinancing my home after 1 year. My mortgage broker said my homeowners insurance went up so I tried contacting my agent to find out why. When I did she was not there.
THE FOLLOWING IS THE EMAIL I SENT TO MY AGENT AFTER THAT PHONE CALL: LISA WHITAKER WAS my agent in LAS VEGAS
I am appalled at the service from one of the persons in your shop. In fact I am so upset it is difficult for me to write this. I am in the process of refinancing my home and my home owners insurance is due. My finance agent explains my rate went up. There were some emails regarding it but I never received a proper answer. When I called now I spoke with David. He was cordial but could not answer my question and transferred me to another lady (I must be blacking her name out as I am so upset). She explained that there was something over looked and my rate dropped and also my car rate dropped. I needed to understand more so I was probing to find out. The $100 discount was for my alarm system which I felt you already were aware of and a should have been discounted on. The rate drop for my auto was $5 for the Jeep and $25 for my Yamaha. Yes $5 a month but not what I would call life changing. I said that this did not seem like a rate drop rather a discount I should have been getting. She made it seem as if I should be falling over happy. I explained that this still means my rates went up and asked why. She said it was a territory underwriting issue. I asked for a simple explanation. She said to me that I did not seem happy with my coverage, insurance or service. Basically, to me, this means I could/should seek other insurance. I have never had anyone treat me this way in my business dealings and hope this is not indicative of how you wish to do business. I may not be able to wait for your reply to make my decision on staying with or switching insurance companies. You are welcome to call me on Monday should you wish to discuss this
I had attached a read receipt to this and it was read on the Saturday. I DID NOT RECEIVE A PHONE CALL FROM HER. I had my auto & motorcycle for 7 years and home owners for 1. So I swithed everything to another company and saved 50% and they were very cordial. I called my State Farm Agent later in the day to ask what I needed to do to stop my coverage. She said she would take care of it. NO QUESTIONS, NO APOLOGY, NO ATTEMPT TO KEEP MY BUSINESS. ITS MY OPINION THAT STATE FARM MUST BE OK WITH THE AMOUNT OF BUSINESS THEY HAVE. Our facility took in a customer of State Farm and nursed her back to health in order for her to function on her own, it was back in the summer of 2007.
Our facility has tried to contact State Farm regarding our claims, but have not received ANY responses AT ALL!!!!!

Contact the insurance commission and file a complaint of "BAD FAITH" against State Farm, every insurance company has an obligation to their insured.

We had some wind damage and a tree on our roof in a recent storm in Ohio the adjuster came out and was very rude he knew everthing did not want to hear anything you had to say and would only give us a small portion of the amount of the worth of replacing a roof we only had for 5 years when we roofed the house at our age we thought it was the last time we would have to roof our home we our both senior citzens so wehad to take money out of our savings to replace our entire roof because we did not want a roof that would not look right if we did put the house up for and it would be a problem for us. It is a terrible when you have to deal with their adjusters and it does not matter they think they are the only people that knows what life is all about. Well, when i called to cancel my policy, conveniently someone had to call me back and then NEVER got a hold of me. I finally went in and said i need my policy cancelled immediately and i signed paperwork stating it was cancelled. about two weeks later, the funds were still deducted from my account! when i brought this to their attention they advised me that i would see it back in my bank account next month. I told them that this was not acceptable as they took it out immediately they should be able to refund it immediately. They told me no but they would cut me a check and i should have it in a few days. Well let me just tell you, this did not happen. I didnt receive my check and when i called to see where my money was i was advised it would be about two more weeks. Okay. So i waited. Two weeks later i called and was advised i should have already received, when i told them i had not they told me "well its not like we control the U.S. Mail, Sorry!" after a lot of yelling on my part they advised me they could send me a new check but i had to wait a full twenty days before it could be even issued. I would not recommend anybody doing business with this company ever again and I was one of their best they have lost forever. They drafted my bank account for a payment I did not owe to them because I did not renew my policy and went with another insurance company because of their poor customer service. It has now been over to weeks and I still have not recieved my payment back. My agent Adam Queler in Gastonia NC was the rudiest agent I have ever had to deal with and I work in customer service so I know when I am getting poor customer service. State Farm is horrible. I have homeowners insurance with them. I paid my bill, yet, I keep receiving missed bill statements where they're threatening to cancel my insurance. Screw State Farm. I'm gonna see if All- State has homeowners insurance. I'm tired of my agent's lack of professionalism. They are rude and incompetent, and a big waste of time. e'sangel 8/6/10 7:28AM

I had state farm insurance for over 10 years now and I had an accident about a few years ago wich they never told me if was my fault or not but now they are not going to renew my policy because they said that i have to many claims ...really bad company not going to recomend it to ANYONE yes me 8/2/10 9:57AM

After 24 years of being a happy State Farm customer; home, 3 auto policies and two personal property policies, I received a letter stating they are canceling our auto policies. My daughter did have one fender-bender with no damage to either car, and a G6 was just totaled after a tie rod broke while driving causing severe front end damage to the car. After 24 years I would figure we would have some loyalty...guess not! I will be pulling the remainder of my policies from S.F. DavidMo 7/29/10 11:22PM

I thought I was the only one they screwed over!! I had auto and home insurance for several years with them with no claims, one accident later they cancelled my service. I need the information for proof of prior insurance for my new company and nobody will return my calls and when I wait on hold with the regular customer service line (Forever I might add) they refer me to my agent who refuses to return my calls!! This company was the best and referred many people to them and all of a sudden my business is worth nothing to them and all that money is down the drain!!! pissed*in*sc 7/24/10 9:44AM

On Sunday, July 11, 2010, a large branch estimated to weigh 1000lbs or more broke off and fell landing partially on my roof. I called Larry Langford, my State Farm agent and left a message. I then called the claims center and filed a claim. 8 days later, I have yet to hear from my agent and every time I call the claim center, they give me the run around on when an adjuster will be out to get the ball rolling. Larry Langford has been my agent for more than 10 years yet he doesn't have time to even call me to check on things, nor can he even make a call to the claims center on my behalf. Why do I have an agent anyway? Isn't he supposed to be there for me when I have a claim??? jeaninkc 7/19/10 2:58PM

We were State Farm customers for YEARS and never had a claim with them. We purchased a home and they all of a sudden cancelled us stating "Our inspector inspected your roof and it needs replaced". We were not aware of any inspector at our house! We asked why was he on our property "ON OUR ROOF" without our knowledge. We were told very rudely that he can do as he pleases! Well, excuse me, I thought I was making the payments on the home, not the inspector! He didn't even look at the inside of the house!!!! We shopped around and moved all of our insurance policies and was told that our boat insurance was still in affect until June and were still were charged the premium. I will be reporting them to the MO Attorney General. When I called and cancelled all policies,I feel that I do not owe them another dime. Talk about nickel and diming us to death!!!!! WE have had State Farm for our home, our boat, 2 pick up trucks, 2 cars, then when my daughter bought a house she went with them also, along with having her car ins. with them. Never made a claim until daughters house was broken in to and they stole her TV, broke her door, etc. Now, 8 months after the break in they are cancelling her! She has less than 2 weeks to find insurance! I called and they were so rude I could not believe it! Woman told me some people go 18 years without a claim and yelled at me to let her finish when I tried to say something to her! They are going to lose our entire family and I am going to tell everyone I can how poor they are and that they do NOT know how to treat or value their customers! They get their money every month, but dont dare file a claim, they will cancel on you and not even give proper notice! I am through with them! Sheri 6/23/10 3:55PM

I called to cancelled my life insurance policy like a month ago and my agent didn't do what their job by cancelled what i request. and now i'm still recieving bill payment said that they will withdrawl money from my account in july. I called customer service and they didn't solve my problem either they said that the only way to cancelled is they'll contact my agent to request a cancel and my agent will contact me. What kind of insurance company is that, they can't even help their customer. Really bad customer service. noone 6/19/10 2:13PM

Contacted Stae Farm Insurance on May 24, 2010 in West Hartford, Ct to cancel my auto insurance which was due to expire on June 3, 2010. I spoke to Dan and told him of my decision to switch insurance companies and specifically asked him to make sure my direct deposit was canceled. I was made to believe that I would have access to a paid up Life Insurace policy and that its cash value would be available to me in case of a crisis, well the crisis came before my 59th birthday and I might be liable for a 10% fee plus taxes on the amount that I withdrew, plus they said it was a loan. I will NEVER DO BUSINESS WITH STATE FARM at least in this life time, and my agent can pay these charges for his misinformation. Unfortunately he has reaped the rewards of this policy and I feel like I have been raped.

what is going on with this company. we have been with you for the better part of 40 years.we pay either one year or six months at a time. and I can't remember when they have had to pay out any money for us. yet recently, they sent a bill for almost $50.00 and we didn't pay it they would cancel us. I got ahold of them to ask why. they said they changed the policy from pleasure to business. since I disabled and cannot work, I questioned this as I go to town once or twice a week for a round trip of less than forty miles each trip. we are paid up until 4-08-10 but they are cancelling us as of today. I have called serveral times and even sent the bill back to the company home support center. in fact NO SUPPORT norhave they returned any phone calls. I did get ahold of one worker, Suzanne, who said she would look into and let me know. that was over three weeks ago and still nothing. next stepl will be the BBB for help. in the meantime we need insurance so I guess I'll start calling around today. oh, I did call this am already and no response. this once best of the best company is below dirt in my book now. agent is Tracy Mitchell in Tucson. we were dumped on him when our agent of many years retired and nothing but problems Anonymous 3/22/10 9:16AM

NO ONE WILL LISTEN....... I PURCHASED AN ANNUITY FROM SATE FARM IN TRAVERSE CITY, MICHIGAN. MY AGENT LOST MY PAPER WORK, SO HE CLAIMS ALONG WITH MY TRUST, THAT WAS GIVEN TO HIM ON TWO DIFFERENT OCCASIONS.
FOR TEN YEARS NOW I HAVE HAD MY ANNUITY WITH SATE FARM. I CAME DOWN WITH FIRST STAGES OF ASOPHICUS CANCER. I NEEDED TO TAKE OUT MONEY FOR MY MEDICAL EXPENSES AND STATE FARM REFUSED ME. THEY CLAIMED THAT THE PROPER PAPER WORK THAT I HAD GIVEN TO MY AGENT ON TWO OCCASIONS, INCLUDING THE TRUST WAS MISPLACED BY HIM OR THE ANNUITY DEPT.
THEY ADVISED MY TO CONTACT AN ATTORNEY, I WAS SHOCKED, THEY WERE HOLDING OUT THEIR HAND OUT WANTING ME TO INVEST WITH STATE FARM AND I DID, MADE THEIR GREEDY COMMISSION AND KNOW REFUSE TO STEP UP TO THE PLATE AND TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR MISPLACING MY POLICY AND TRUST. TO THIS DAY, THEY REFUSE TO RELEASE ANY OF MY FUNDS JUST UNDER $500,000 DOLLARS OF MY INVESTMENT TO ME.
THEY STRONGLY ADVISED ME TO CONTACT AN ATTORNEY. SHAME ON YOU SATE FARM. SO MUCH FOR YOUR MISLEADING COMMERCIALS.

I cancelled my auto policy in September but State Farm continued to take money out of my bank account. I talked to 3 different agents since then and they all assured me that everything was taken care of and I should expect a refund check within a week. Then I got a note from SF that my policy was cancelled the end of December and they did send me a small check (under $25) but they owed me over $250. I even sent them a copy of the paperwork for the new insurance company stating that I had gotten insurance from another carrier back in September. I have now talked with 3 people on 4 different occasions and they all have said that the situation is taken care of and the check will be here in a week (or so). I asked them about cutting me a check today for the balance that they owe me and overnighting it but OH NO they couldn't do that. CALL ME A VERY DISSATISFIED CUSTOMER penguin12 1/8/10 10:44AM

I was with state farm for 11 years and hadn't had many issues. however, now I can't get my policies canceled, they keep sending me notices that i haven't paid my bills, and I've asked them to change my name to my married name 6 times (on record) and it still hasn't happened. Nationwide treated me 10x better when I switched to them! upset state farmer 12/8/09 5:36AM

first of all, i've been with state farm for almost 3yrs and never have accident i have tow cars both on state farm plus i have two life insurance with them. Dawn Stice wch is the agent in Lexington Kentucky she is very rude for an agent don't how to work with customer. she hung up the phone on me for just a simple information that i need and she has told me that we don't need your business you can take your car with someone else company so the same time she told me that i was crying and felt so sad because i don't deserve that i am very respectful woman i treat everyone with respect. so in opinion i think she needs some good lesson to know how to talk with customer. thank Customer 11/24/09 12:13PM

don't dare call them upset, how dare a customer do that. I am member for 9 years was hung up on 3 times when trying to call. I switched to Geico and am saving 231 $ every 6 months.

I have had State Farm for over 30 years. I have lived in 4 States and State Farm went with me all the way. They go far beyond customer service they treat you like family. My guy Weston in Springfield, Mo has taken so good care of me and my family. When I see the commercials about saving you money I just smile and no State farm is #1 in my book.

My husband and I have been with State Farm for over 10 yrs and have never had any problems with the staff or coverage of this company. Our agent is available to us anytime of the day and if she's not there she returns our call as soon as she can or a co-worker calls us right back to help us. We live in a suburb of Chicago Illinois so maybe people are just more professional and responsive in this area of the country. We love this company and would never think of switching to anyone else. I just decided to check rates and State Farm had better rates than my previous insurer so I stopped by a body shop that is run by a long time friend and asked him which insurance company was the best one to work with in his opinion and he said that State Farm is the easiest one to deal with for him.
I found the local agent and his people to be very easy to deal with and they went out of their way to make sure that they had answered all of my questions. Bottom line is that they now have our car and home policy and I have almost 500 bucks to spend in a year.AnOldGuy 10/31/09 9:10PM

I have always had a good experience with my local State Farm agent. I have never had a major claim (although I have done about 5 tow reimbursements), but have had many changes over the last 20 years, and tey've handled those just fine. They always answer on the first ring and have never needed to transfer me.
