I recently purchased lifetime map updates for my Roadmate 1440 (which was the most accurate GPS I have ever owned). Since I updated my maps and GPS it no longer has the newer roads it previousely had, it routs me in totally wrong directions (unless you want to go the long way!). I have contacted Magellan and all they do is tell me there is no fix and no refund... plus they want me to help them correct their map software by giving them detailed directions... Shouldn't they pay me for that service???wef23 4/19/12 6:13PM

This is the worst company ever. I ordered a GPS on 3-26-12, 4 days later no information when you try to call to find out if they even have it in stock all you get is an automated run a round.I left 2 e-mails and still no response.Don't ever order from this company the worst customer service ever. you will never speak with a human. This company deserves to go bankrupt.Anonymous 3/29/12 11:53AM

I am disappointed that just because my RoadMate is a 1700, I am reduced to purchasing map updates when the newer ones have lifetime updates included. So does Garman and they are much cheaper at purchase and work just as well. They just don't have the big screen. I am questioning the worth of the 7 inch screen. Didn't get much of a feeling of value in keeping me as a customer in my phone call with Customer Service.Anonymous 2/20/12 3:30PM

Had the Magellan initially and it was ok, but when it came time for the upgrade, paid $70, tried to activate it and it never worked. Tried to resolve it with the company to no avail. We are out $70.
Bought an updated Garmin Nuvi from Costco and we're much happier. It has lifetime updates as well.
Magellan is horrible for customer service and the product isn't as good.Ticked off ex-customer 12/17/11 9:25PM -

These guys are the best sales asset that Garmin could possibly have. Despite having an account with Magellan and the product registered in their database,
they still refused to make a defective unit RA within warranty period.
Mitac is a pathetic company.bigbottlebob 12/16/11 8:50AM -

Magellan sucks on every front! the GPS maps are terrible, inaccurate, and often take me to roads that no longer exist. Their support is the worst I've ever seen! I can never get their software updates to work right the first time and have to spend days in email exchanges trying to figure out the problem, which is never the same twice in a row. Bottom line - if you need a paperweight, buy a Magellan. If you need a working and upgradeable GPS, but anything BUT Magellan. They suck big-time!oxlid 11/16/11 3:28PM

I was put on hold for over a half hour only to speak to an uninterested customer service staff member who was not at all helpful. Your staff were having quite a party. I could hardly hear the customer service person. It also seemed like the staff person was in a hurry to get back to the staff party. I did not get me issue resolved NOR did the staff want to take my info so that a manager could return my call.Jasmin 11/15/11 6:22PM

I have a Magellan Roadmate 1700-MU purchased November 8, 2010. It quit working recently and I have had no satisfaction from phone nor internet support. The phone conversation identified that the GPS is indeed not working, but would not give any address nor return instructions. When I went to the internet they wanted a $30.00 fee I guess, for just giving me the information. After this runaround I will never buy a Magellan product again. Peter L. I got the Map update and the update maps are older then seven years cost me $89.00

The Magellan only has a 5 page manual. I am not
a computer person and have trouble getting it to do what I want. I went to your help page to get some advice on how to get directions to an airport over 200 miles away, and it would only
take me to close ones. Your help number is invalid according to the telephone operator, and to get information by computer. I have to pay up to thirty $30. I want to know how to send it back. Its probably the worst buy I ever made. W.B. BlakeyAnonymous 9/15/11 10:09AM -

I have ordered a car plug in on 8/16/11 and called customer service. Waited 15 min for someone to answer & sort of got the run around on why it was not shipped. I will cancel charges on my credit card as its now 8/25/11 & still nothing has been sent.

Bought Roadmate 5045T-EU.
Very inconsistend. Sometimes guides you in total differrent direction just a couple of hundred meters before your final destination.
Also the closest turning/intersection/exit distance which is shown on the map is 0.1km or 0.1 miles. This is totally unaceptable. Have they ever driven in a European city?
Now I am stuck with it,and it does not do the job which it was made for.K 7/29/11 12:32PM -
Bought a Magellan Road Mate July 24, 2011. The booklet has no instructions for internet connections, nor does the web site unless you registered. Their web site says they cant register my serial number, the number was already used???. I bought it today at Best Buys in all sealed wrapping. Their "friendly" website does not accomodate receiving your email, nor talk to you. The canned FAQ does not have answers. Basically, after purchase, thanks and dont bother us.SEroadwarrior 7/24/11 2:24PM

Ordered a Magellan Roadmate. It didn't work. Was told to return it and I did paying yet another postage. It has been two months now and have not received it. They claim they never received my return. I was given an email to contact customer service and two times the email was returned to me "undeliverable". We are a retired couple living on a budget and it was a real stretch for us to purchase this. We have not only lost our money for the product but also lost more money on postage to return it. Don't even try to talk to customer service. It's a real joke.

I ordered a Magellan GPS unit in line on 5/18. Still haven't received it yet. Status of order still says "Pending Fulfillment" and it is now 6/5/2011. I can't get a hold of any human being in customer service. I've emailed them numerous times with no response. They didn't hesitate to charge my card. Do they even exist? This is on the verge of fraud!! I am going to contact the Better Business Bureau next.

Magellan customer service in San Dimas Ca is the most unprofessional company ever. I called to talk to someone regarding parts to my unit and a woman answered very unprofessional acted like I was bothering her. While speaking to her I heard someone in the background using obscenities. I will throw my unit away and buy a Garmin. Good to know management had their employees under control.Tony 5/6/11 9:40AM

Magellan Has The Worst Customer Service And Technical Support i ever HAD TO DEAL WITH. I really think this company is run by the devils spawn and there mission in life is to screw the poor soles who buy there products. Your on the phone with them and they try as hard as they can to get you to explode and you sit there pulling your hair out saying why! why! why! did i buy this piece of crapastercreame 4/7/11 6:09AM

I have a Magellan roadmate 1220. The product will not load an address. all it does is give a message that you only part of. I have been trying to reach Magellan support for 3 days and I get all the independent support companies but not yours. This system was purchased by the US Government to assist in locating damaged properties. What do I need to do to get this Roadmate updated.jek 3/23/11 7:54AM

I bought a crossoverGPS for my husband in 2008 for over $300.. It has worked pretty good with the exceptions of freezing up periodically and not updating to a current location if it was not in use but then turned on at a different location from where it was turned off. The most frustrating is the fact Magellan made a product they never intended to service. They have not offered any map updates not do they intend to. After "selling" a product with the hype of updates being available and being able to add POIs with a SD card it became a through away because they refuse to follow thru and now say sorry but we can sell you another one with 4 free updates for $129... WOW! what a waste. I'll never by Magellan again!dmholt 3/2/11 5:41AM

I got a $400 magellan maestro for christmas two years ago. About 8 months after having it, the battery swelled up to the point that the unit was dead.. After sending to them, they sent me a "RF"(referbed) replacment. 12 months later, this one will not hold a charge (must be plugged in). Out of warranty now, but when you spend $400 on somthing like a GPS, it should last much longer than a year!!! My grandfather has 8 garmins (most are old) that all work tiptop. Would never get a magellan again, and would tell anyone to stay away from it.. Get a garmin or tomtom.. I am pissed off that I cant even run my magellan maestro on USB power to update. Must be plugged into the car to work.. JUNK!!!!!!!!!!!PC 11/15/10 5:45PM

Navigating the Magellan sites for customer service, etc. is unbelievably difficult. I sent two e-mails requesting confirmation of an order placed and have not received a reply. Magellan is quick to take your money be it through a charge card, etc., but you remain at their mercy to follow through. Hopefully I'll be receiving the item ordered but will NEVER again purchase another product from Magellan considering the lack or response to a question. Try to reach someone by phone ... FORGET IT!Anonymous 9/23/10 12:22PM

Won't be using them again, we have a 2 year old model(2008) and there isn't a 2010 update(which is only available for about 15 out who knows how many units) for it, only an old 2009. Considering the products less than stellar performance and the fact that we have roads in our area that didn't exist in 2009, we'll be switching to Garmin.Switching_to_Garmin 7/16/10 11:23AM

I sent my GPS in for repairs at which time they told me I could get a new one with all the upgrades for $80.00. Sounds nice right, only thing is I started the new transaction on March 11 and after months of waiting and moving I called the comapany only to find out my order still was not shipped and here it is May 15. Magellan SUCKS
my Magellan maestro 4350 started spider webbing in the middle of the screen and spread until the screen was mostly unreadable.
customer service was very nice and replaced my unit no questions asked.
the new unit arrived missing all my favorites so i paid the 80.00 to upgraded to new maps per there suggestion... WAIST of money!!!! as new maps did not have local streets that have been in area for years.
also started webbing again. I called cust. service and they offered NO HELP.
BUT offered another piece of there junk at a discount. NO THANKS. ill stick to garmin or lowrance Thank YouAnonymous 4/5/10 10:32AM -
Magellan just sucks! I have one that has NEVER worked right! I called CS and they told me i needed the home charger. I baught that and it did not help. 399.00 for the GPS and 35.00 for the charger. TOTAL junk! Do not waist your money!

This company's customer service is the absolute worst. They have scammed me $160 and when I call they give me nothing but the run around. If you're thinking about buying any of Magellan's products, do yourself and favor and don'tAnonymous 12/9/09 10:29AM

My brand new unit was defective. I spent $15 to send it back in. The customer service rep got the problem wrong, they sent me a replacement unit--that had someone else's initials carved into the side of it!! They sent me a USED unit for my brand new one--and shipped it in a box with all the air bubble packaging ruptured. It bounced around in that box from Tennessee to Hawaii! I cannot tell you how disgusted I am with this company. I sent in my brand new defective unit at MY cost and got someone else's headache in return. Magellan sucks.dorkyquilts 11/19/09 8:28PM

Magellan charged me $20 for a $10 map update.
They refused to give me a refund after sending them a copy of my online bank statement. They said this wasn't acceptable proof. Absolutely intolerable that they steal money from me and then say I have to jump through hoops to get it back.
First and last time I will ever by a magellan product. I warn anyone else to also stay away!Anonymous 8/6/09 9:50AM -
Magellan is the WORST company I have ever done business with. They sent me the wrong USB cable for my GPS and it took over a month to get somebody on the phone who could actually help me. They kept having problems with their computer system do they said, twice! SO they would have to have someone call me which never happened, twice! I finally got someone say they would give me a refund and proceeded to want me to write down a 12 digit RMA and an address and they wouldn't send me an email with the info because they say some people say they don't get the email! Then the rep asked me if I wrote it down and accused me of not writing it down! And of course they were from India... Had a hard time understanding them. I will NEVER own anything from Magellan again.
jml 7/22/09 4:02PM -
First of all I will never purchase a Magellan product again. Having to pay to order a hard cover instruction book was the first thing that turned me off. Next your product service sucks and finally your product is unreliable. While driving it just dies on me and it's brand new. Compared to my friend's Garmin it's like comparing a Caddy (Garmin) to a pedal car. I was on my way to a hospital this morning for outpatient surgery and the gps simply decided to turn itself off and it's programmed to stay on continually. Thankfully I allowed an extra half hour to get where I was going.Anonymous 4/23/09 3:53AM

I had owned my Magellan GPS for 8 months when I attempted to update the map. The unit froze and ceased to function. I called them up on the 1 800 number, and after a few minutes wait I was put in contact with an agent who assisted me. We could not get the unit to function so he told me that they would send a replacement (new not refurbished). Sure enough a brand new unit was couriered to my house within a week. I returned the non working unit in the same package via the courier. I would have to say that the experience was very good.Wayne 12/30/11 1:31PM

I bought a Magellan august 2010. One month later the plug in adapter to the car was broken. I called the company and they send a replacement immediately without hassle.Jenny 12/16/10 9:33AM

I have spoken with Magellan several times. I have also read through emails they sent. All were understandable. When the problem could not be resolved online or phone I was given a replacement.
To anyone with a problem; find the reset button and press it for a count of 10. If that doesn't work pick up the phone.ladygray 8/22/09 8:29AM -
Magellan Maestro 4050 is a pleasure to use. I had a problem updating the Maps -- in trying to do so the unit froze and would not respond. The company sent me an RMA and replaced the unit within a reasonable time. I like the voice and street directions.efm411 8/20/09 11:36AM

Actuall, and surprisingly, I was able to reach customer service in a jeffy, I mean instantly answered by vey friendly and eager to help personnel. The device was replaced, no question asked.countbernadotte 8/17/09 1:11PM

I always heard that Magellan customer support is poor. But that is NOT my experience. I have contacted them twice - once because the unit would not charge (after a year of moderate use). The second time because the replacement unit they sent mysteriously does not speak the street names (text to speech), as it should. Both times they were prompt, courteous, and helpful.
Sure, it would be better if there never were any problems. But that's what customer service is for - to take care of problems you wish you didn't have.
In my experience, Magellan gets high marks. I can think of many companies that would do well to provide the customer service I have received from Magellan.William S. 6/22/09 3:14PM
