On 11/29/2012 I volunteered to take a later flight from Boston to Ft Lauderdale so another passenger could get to his destination on time (and in return I received a free round trip ticket). I was told my luggage would be on my original flight and they would hold it in the Spirit baggage claim department and all I had to do was go there and pick it up. My original flight, with my luggage, landed in Ft Lauderdale at 8:30 p.m. and I arrived on my later flight at 11:15 p.m. I immediately went to the baggage claim and IT WAS CLOSED! So I found a Spirit ticket agent and explained to her I volunteered to give my seat up and now I can’t get my luggage as it is closed. She told me to "come back the next day to claim it" - my response was a loud "NO I want it now, I did your airline a favor because YOU over booked and now you want me to drive back here tomorrow"? She informed me that there was nothing she could do for me as the baggage claim was locked and no one else could help me. I said “then YOU need to find a key to open the damn door and get my luggage, not a difficult solution!!” After a 20 minute wait she comes back to me and says she found the key, went to baggage claim but my luggage wasn’t there, I asked her if I could go with her to help her look again and she said I wasn’t allowed in baggage claim. Then she said “let me get my supervisor” After another 25 minute wait the supervisor comes out and looks at me and says “you wanted to talk to me” I said "NO I didn’t ask to talk to you, but I’m sure you’re aware of my problem and since you’re here what can you do to find my luggage"….she said "sorry there isn’t anything I can do, put a claim in tomorrow morning" - I thought I was going to punch her. Needless to say I told her what she could do with her “claim” and walked out of the airport, without my luggage! First thing in the morning I called Spirit corporate office and they (Sharon) immediately called me back, I told her how RUDE Ft Lauderdale airport Spirit employee’s were, she apologized and said she would call me back and she would find my luggage. She called me back within 45 minutes and said my luggage WAS in the baggage claims department. As I am writing this I just received a call (from Shawn at the airport baggage claim department) and THEY are delivering my luggage to me within the next 2 hours. Bottom line is Boston Spirit Airlines employee’s were very helpful, nice, polite and very accommodating - Ft Lauderdale Spirit Airlines employees are Rude - Uncaring - Lazy - Disrespectful and Ignorant, definitely NOT people I ever want to deal with again. They give Spirit a BAD name and if it wasn’t for the “free round trip ticket” I would NEVER book another flight. Now my FREE round trip will be my LAST trip on Spirit Airlines, all because of Ft Lauderdale Airport employee‘s. I do want to THANK Spirit Airline employees in Boston Logan Airport, Sharon in corporate office in Miramar and Shawn in Ft Lauderdale baggage claim department for all there help and support.
