My spouse and I already have membership and cards that are valid until January 2016. Why are we continuously receiving mail to RENEW? MY ACCOUNT NUMBER IS
MY NAME IS Brenda L. Hennigan SPOUSE--- Marvin (NMN) Davis
Have we renewed twice?? Is a refund due to us?
I just got my premiums for 2016 AARP Supplemental and Personal Health Plan(United Healthcare Insurance) and the rate will increase three times in 18 months. I called United Health (I live in Maryland) and they blamed in on Maryland Insurance Commission and that United Health wanted a younger insurance pool because they don't access United Health claims as much. I thought this AARP sponsored plan was for people over 65 years old. While AARP receives royalty fees, they should challenge these increases because we are on a limited budget. The United Health representative also told me that I got a discount so I would sign up and that discount will be reduced by 3% each year until I turn 75 (Seventy-Five) when there will be no discount. He went on to say that they are looking for a younger pool of policy holders. Can anyone in the Administration of AARP follow up on this?
I just tried to sign on for dental insurance through Delta Dental. The stupid question "where were you born" and I answered San Francisco, CA. The stupid system answered that there is not such place! That tells me you are REALLY dumb, because I am sure I was born in San Francisco, CA! I guess you don't want to accommodate any customers trying to sign up for additional insurance. I have the health insurance already. I also want to sign up for vision insurance. Guess i WILL have to go somewhere else for the additional insurance!
I am angry with AARP!

I HATE all of the mailings that I get from New York Life and Hartford Insurance using AARP!!! My husband has been deceased for almost 2 years and he still gets offers for life insurance. I have notified New York Life but I guess they don't care.
When my husband passed away Hartford RAISED my auto insurance. I was not in the mood to shop around so I paid the premium in full so I thought. I got a check for a partial refund from them cancelling the auto insurance for none payment of an additional $8.00 that they forgot to bill in the original statement. So a great paying customer with absolutely no claims was cancelled.
Just this week I got mail from AARP addressed to my deceased husband at my new address. He never even lived at this address.
AARP needs to do something about improving the mailing lists that they sell to these companies.
As I finish this gripe I see they want information on me. I'm NOT giving it as it will only lead to even more annoying emails. Anonymous!
AARP claims to support senior causes and get special discounts for them. However, 6 months before your membership is up the mailings begin. And the wording is strong to make you think you will miss out on the benefits and monthy magazine, In all you will get 4-5 mailings during those 6 months prior to your actual subscription needing to be renewed.
The cost of all those mailings which even include sometimes plastic cards, is a WASTE of money AND a probable scam to get seniors (who might have loss of mental facilities) to give their money 6 months early so AARP can have it in their bank account. So much for caring about seniors.
When I spoke to AARP I get the story that members are really concerned about missing a monthly magazine so the sign up must be earlier...YEAH...OK smoke and mirrors
Our family of 6 recently vacationed 10 days in CA. We scheduled a Hampton Hotel in Hayward a sub of San Francisco. Am forwarding as that hotel would NOT honor the 10% discount posted in your AARP news publication. Am writing as our total bill for 2 rooms for 10 days was over 3M and that 10% would have been welcome and appreciated as we thought would apply. Your GREAT DEALS ARE NOT TRUE as we found out the hard way! Please advise and hope such can be reimburse to us or at least corrected. The Hampton Inn to contact is tel. . THANK YOU AND APPRECIATE AN ANSWER. DEED
I have asked for three years to please stop sending me info on life, health, and car insurance. I have enough and I feel I had to not renew my membership in hopes this would stop, it still has not. I understand people need these but after three years of me asking you to stop I need you to stop. I feel if you send me 2 requests a week at .49 cents each plus the paper ink and the people if takes to send these. You have wasted a lot of money more then I have spent on my initial membership. It seems like a total waste of money.
Purchased a Real Pad in January through your ad in magazne.I spent $189.00.. It arrived with a defective connecion.I mailed it to a N.H location..with a letter of explanation..Received a replacement with alot of personal information(banking GMail & photos.Called several tiome got an answering machine,I left message, No return call..Went to a Walmart store Girl connected me with a Richard Burga who was very nice received a fedex label to send back to NH Company ,,Called that office still no answer from a David,,spoke to a Kellie..Still do not have Real Pad.AARP should not back a product that is of poor quality and is over price.Since my purchase they lowered cost to $149,00 which is still too expensive..
There are no words to express how much I do not like AARP! When I was 64 and thought I had plenty of time to set up my insurance plan D I called AARP. I called months before my 65th birthdate and agreed to their rates for coverage under health plan D. Then the waiting game began. I never received any confirmation or correspondence regarding my insurance plan D. Every time I called, I got another story about why I did not receive the necessary paperwork i.e., mail was returned as undeliverable, wrong address, etc. Each time I called I was assure that AARP had "fixed" the problem and I would receive my insurance cards any day.... I am now 65 and have no insurance for plan D due to the fact that I believed AARP was a reputable company and would come through with my insurance needs. WRONG. Everyone should watch out for this scam company who's only real interest is to sell you a membership to all of their BS magazines and brochures. Ripping off Senior Citizens is the name of this companies game!
Just received my renewal notice from AARP. Thought it strange since I'm a multi-year member. Checked my records and I'm not due for renewal. Looking closer, I see it's a renewal notice from AARP Foundation, not AARP.
So, because I donated to the Foundation before, I get a renewal notice? Really? And it looks likes a membership renewal. Coincidence? I don't think so. I think it's a misleading mailing designed to confuse the recipient into thinking it's a membership renewal, which will generate more money again for the Foundation. How ethical is that? So, what does the Foundation stand for anyway if they use dishonest fund raising tactics?
If you're a senior using AARP medicare supplements, be aware; when you pass on, they will absolutely refuse to cooperate with your adult children handling your estate. It doesn't matter how much legal documentation is sent, they will be given no information about your coverage, whether the payments are up to date, etc. They're also rude over the phone as well. AARP has a poor reputation for customer service and they do nothing at all for seniors on any level or any subject area.
booked a flight through aarp fluen from Portland to San Diego and drove to LA and then was to fly out of LA back to Portland they also had a rental car for me picked up in San Diego dropped off in LA unfortunately the agent had the flight in and out of San Diego and the car dropped off in LA took 5 phone calls additional $1000 to change what aarp messed up missed out on early morning at Disneyland and wasted three and a half hours on the phone everyone I dealt with there was incompetent and all wanted to pass the buck will never use them again to book
It took 3 days and 45 minutes of phone work to renew my AARP Membership. I kept being told that the computer was down. Over the course of 3 days, I kept calling back, and I was told the same thing. I finally called the Washington DC office, and I was able to renew my membership. I am very disappointed with the process of renewal. I hope my credit card information will be kept confidential.
My time is money. What can you do for me?
What a run around... Hartfort double our rate and AARP reps can not help us.... Wow, where else can you make such an upcharge... Where is that AARP protection and assistance.?????
Beware! look at your auto bill and be aware that rates are Going Thru The Roof. Then you try AARP for help....
In early March 2015, I sent in my AARP membership renewal I agreed to pay $16.00 for membership through May 2016 plus an additional $5.00 membership in "AARP's "Staying Sharp" program. So, I sent in the $21.00.
Today I received an email from AARP directing me to the link, "BrainHQ." There I was invited to agree to the Terms and Conditions which I read and recoiled. This document was so draconian that it rivals most unconscionable contracts of adhesion. For example, it asks me to accept that fees and charges may be raised and terms and conditions can be reworded without my knowledge, input or consent. I promptly withheld my agreement.
Then, I requested a refund of the $5.00 "Staying Sharp" fee but my request was denied. I was informed that my whole membership had been cancelled and that I would receive a check for $21.00 within 4-6 weeks. I protested that I wanted to retain my $16.00 active AARP membership but simply wanted a refund of the $5.00 "Staying Sharp" fee. Ms. Linette Woodard stated replied, "You've talked with several of our staff and we've all told you the same thing. You pain $21.00 for the "Staying Sharp" membership and it's not possible to refund only $5.00 of that. So we had to refund you the entire $21.00 which you will receive as a check in 4-6 weeks. Meanwhile, you may reinstate your membership in AARP by paying $16.00 with a check, or credit card.
Seriously, if this is not a classic "bait and switch" scam, then I don't know what is. I'm very disappointed in AARP. I thought they had my back.
Trying to get "any" customer service from AARP, good ,bad, or indifferent, you will definitely get bad and indifferent. These so called activist for seniors are nothing more than 21 century snakeoil scamers who affiliate themselves with those who also make a living bilking people. Our experience could have been written as a story from E.Poe or in R.Stewarts Twilight Zone. From November of 2014 until March of 2015 we tried to get resolution to a refund for a trip we canceled and every time I talked to any one at AARP, "We will transfer this to a supervisor who will contact you in 3 to 5 days." Finally, fed up with the 3to5 day scenario I called my bank and had them dispute the charge. After having to send more and more information to a "tier 3" supervisor," I was informed that the company we originally went through offered to us by the Expedia part of this merry go round, would, with reservation, give us our refund and it was up to our banks time table to put the funds back into our account in a timely manner....After fighting with AARP/Expedia for 4 months, my bank had the funds in my account in 2business days... So if you call customer service and you get, "WE see you have been a loyal customer" for what ever time you have been a member, prepare yourself for the rest of the scam."
We are proud to recognize the companies providing the best customer service each year within their industry.
