I bought a Buy 2 Years Get 1 Free Year in August 2011 at the Culver City, CA Bally's Total Fitness. Two months later the gym was sold to La Fitness. I submitted the paperwork for the voucher for the free year, in November 2011, but Bally's never sent it. It has been a hellish ordeal to get this voucher and I will likely have to file a claim through small claims court.

I am a service member, I joined Bally Total Fitness a year before joining. I joined in 08 during a 60 day promise trial membership. I was unsatisfied with the gym and followed the protocol of going 17 times, orientation, and wrote a detailed letter to the office within 10 days of my 60 day mark. They sent the letter back, and charged me for the entire year, which is currently a 1400 dollar blemish on my credit. I had moved away from the address and never received the letter back, but I got it from the current resident. I'm taking legal action which I recommend all of us here on the comment board do. Bally Total Fitness is a scam/fraud!!

I sent a cancellation letter back in 2005, and to dat my membership has not been cancelled. There in no one you can speak too, you have to send a letter. Well since 2005 I have sent about 10 letters and you are still charging me every month. I will take leagal action if this is not resolved ASAP. Sending another letter today. Shame on you Michal Sheehan CEO of Bally Total Fitness. You are just as Corrupt as any CEO.

This company has NO customer service; I have been trying to reach the corporate office for the past two days. I have waited almost ONE HOUR and NO representative answers the phone. This company should be used as a model for bad business practice. I know that I intend to use it as such in my lecture courses. My next step is to complain them to the BBB.

I did not think one way or the other until after I tried to reach Ballys for two days finally after reaching them being on hold for a hour and hearing their recording over and over their tactic hoping people will hang up. Their customer service is horrible and I would encourage anyone they can do so much better with 24 hours.

Poor customer service, aggregating and you have to jump through hoops to. Get what you need. Then they send you to a phone number trying to get you to buy a cruise. I was a member when it was jack lalanes in 1992 and its ignore down hill ever since. I am canceling two memberships

5/20/13 I’ve been a member with Bally's total fitness since early 80's. On 5/20/13, I decided to attend the KINGS HIGHWAY, Bally’s Total Fitness located in Brooklyn, New York. After working out I decided to use the Jacuzzi/pool. The life Guard (VLAD) who speaks very poor English, started yelling at me because I press the timer button for the Jacuzzi. Have no rights to press the timer on the Jacuzzi. Due to a car accident I developed TMJ problems which cause me to constantly move my Jaw which appears that I am chewing a piece of gum. The life guard accused me of chewing gum in the Jacuzzi. I tried explaining to him that I have a medical condition that caused me to move my After jaw due to discomfort and I have no chewing gum in my mouth.


I was the only Latino present in the pool area. The life guard started screaming at me and called me a liar, said and don’t need to be in the Jacuzzi area with the rest of the Russian Jews. The life guard addressed me ad being black then ordered me out of the Jacuzzi area, And kept repeating “I AM NONE JEWISH, while I sat in the Jacuzzi the life guard turned the power off the Jacuzzi and told me to get out. I was extremely upset. As I walked out of the poor area he then turned the power back on for the rest of the members. I told him this was discrimination, and I am going to report him. I was told to the life guard to do what I want do, and as long as he sees me in the pool are or Jacuzzi he will turn he power off until I leave.

I was so upset, I reported the incident to the manager Roy Sales Manager and Jahanies. I'm not sure if any actions was taking with the life Guard (VLAD). But I feel a person that is so Racial should be dismissed and not be permitted to work with a company that has mixed clientele. I will file a law sue and take it further. A person that is so racial should be allowed to work in a facility with diversified clients especially a GYM.

Bally's is the worst gym ever. Bought two life time memberships and was told I longer have them. They change the rules as they go. The gyms I have visited are dirty and no one seems to care except about taking your membership away.

I am a member of Bally's fitness club for 15 years. For 13 years I am coming to the Thornton, CO club. Recently a lot of equipment was removed from the club, and never exchanged. Some aerobic equipment was added,but not the equipment we were usually using.
It is a complaint that coming not only from my family, but from a lot of other club members.
How come that other Bally locations (Colorado Blv, Denver and Wadsworth Blvd remain normaland have all the necessary equipment?
And why is the working hours during the weekend are shorter in Thornton club?

I belong to the Bally's in Bashore unfortunalty. I used to go to the Ball'y in capaiuge which i was very happy with. But when they switched to LA Fitness i couldn't go there. For some stupid reason ,this Bally's is terrible , I talked to someone from corporate office her name was Michelle ,said that i could transfer to LA Fitness but she never answer's her phone which i left numerous meesages. I want a answer ,i would like to transfer.

I attend the Bally Total Fitness in South San Jose, CA. After trying to find someone to speak with, I have noticed (on various sites) that there seems to be a common theme regarding the lack of cleanliness not only at my club but also at other Bally Total fitness centers around the country. I can only hope this is a concern that will quickly get resolved and I can't imagine how this could be such a huge expense that the corporate office finds this is a service they simply can't afford to offer their clients. Who wants to use a dirty bathroom and locker room?

Bally's is horrible. They will continue to suck money out of you when you want to cancel your membership. They will never let you talk to a real person at customer service. You have to write letters that are never acknowledged. I imagine that there are So many angry people that's why no one answers the phone Or wants to take phone calls. Do not join this club!!!!

Corporate office, for santitary reasons please hire better cleaning company to upkept the women's locker room and bathroom commodes located @ 159-26 Jamaica Ave, Jamaica Queens NY by Parsons Blvd. The women's bathroom isn't maintained correctedly. The locker room floors benches and dressing room floors and bathroom floors needs to be disinfected daily twice a day. The floors are never spotless nor disinfected since a member last year. The toilets commodes are not disinfeced. Lack of toilet tissues. Paper towels should be in the womens locker room for personal wipe ups since cleaning staff isnt available. For health reasons, it is imperative the the locker room is well kept. I gone to the Bally's on Queens Blvd, and the women's locker room and bathroom's are kept better. Please help!!

The Bally's on South Academy in Colo Spgs is the worst run place I have ever seen. The exercise area and the weight machines are never cleaned. The women's locker rooms, bathrooms and showers are disgusting, with filthy floors, ankle-deep standing water and hair and debris in every corner.
The so-called maintenance man cannot keep the whirlpool jets operating for more than a few days a week.
There are members who jump into the whirlpool DIRECTLY OUT OF THE STEAM ROOM... sweaty and FULLY CLOTHED!!!!
The losers who sit at the desk or disappear entirely will not take 10 minutes out of every hour to check out the wet areas.
Someone could slip, fall and kill themselves and nobody would know or care.
Why is this place a dirty toilet inside a pigsty???

I am having the same trouble as most of you have identified. I cannot get any response, my original ohio membership was just sold to Red Fitness however I now live in Arizona, I would be content if it were transferred to LA Fitness. If anyone is ineterested in a class action law suit, please respond.

I am greatly outraged with the customer service and frankly the lack of customer service I received today. The customer service representative Daniel # 1840 transferred me to his Supervisor Don.
I really was trying to understand how I referred four people to join Bally and they all received a $99.99 renewal fee compared to my renewal fee which was $252.00. I have been a faithful member for 6 years now. I was told by the Supervisor that my business was not appreciated and if I chose to join a different gym that was my choice.
He told me not to compare prices. What!!!! What an insult to patronage. Someone at Bally Total Fitness should had informed me that my business would not be appreciated and I would had left six years ago.
There are definitely more fish in the sea who are in deed thankful for your patronage.

I think Ballys is the worst business I ever dealt with. Back in 1994 my nefew was 17 years old and he wanted to join the gym but because he was 17 they told me I had to sign him up and I had to be responsible till he was 18 which was a month later. Almost a year later My Husband was dying of cancer and I just bought him home from the hospital they called me because the $30.00 for that month was due and I explain that my husband was dying that i will take care of it. They called me the next day I told them that I already spoke to them about it. They have the nerve to to tell me that they have to get paid some how. They even manage to get the money out auto matic from my account. They kept calling and one person i spoke thought he hang up the phone and i hear him telling his co-worker that I was a not so nice name. Every once in a while they still call. Before my nefew join I spend over a thousand for my membership at that time for the year and his member was alittle over 500.00 it was a special. Don"t you know they call me today on the anniversary of my husbands death. I'm soooo angry. My nefew did paid.

I recently had my membership transferred to LA Fitness in Tucson, AZ. I cancelled the membership in writing in May, but continued to be charged fees to my checking account which resulted in NSF charges. In looking back at my checking account, I noticed that Bally's had been charging me for two memberships dating back to at least August of 2011. When contacting them for a refund, they would only confirm that I had been charged. They told me that any refund would have to come from LA Fitness. The problem with this is that LA Fitness only took over in December 2011. LA Fitness is in the process of correcting double charges for the past 6 months. But Bally's isn't stepping up to the plate, despite the fact they screwed up. LA Fitness only took over the mess.

i was harrassed on the first day of my personal training day. i recieved unappropiate test messages from my personal trainer. i spoke to two of the managers on sight. The managers were not much help. do not go to the san leandro, ca location. eric (manager) david(manager), and jimmy (personal trainer) were no help.

This company is totally made up of rude individuals. After a month of trying to speak to a manager because their customer service people are programmed to say only certain lines, I get a voice mail message from what may be a manager. However, when I call her back at the number she provided, I get the same department of people who call themselves customer service and they cannot transfer the call nor do they know who this person is. Then they continue their usual rudeness. Now I still cannot talk to someone who is in a postition make decisions and assist in the issues that continue to escalate.

Issue: Ballys will not send me a copy of my contract.

My membership is part of the nightmarish buy-out by LA Fitness. To be sure, both Ballys and LA Fitness have been horrible to deal with in this situation.

I simply want a copy of my contract with Ballys so I can show it to LA Fitness, who has agreed to give me the same rate as I paid at Ballys. Ballys sent a ledger of the fees I'd paid for the last 7 years, and although LA Fitness agreed that it "looked like" that was the fees I paid, they will not agree to honor the price unless they see a copy of my contract. When I contacted Ballys (multiple times), they said they had send all the contract so LA Fitness. LA Fitness denieds having received any contracts. So I asked Ballys to send me a copy of the contract, and they have denied my request.

I've contact the Washington Attorney General and encourage others to do the same. No one will pay attention until the government gets involved or there's legal action.

I am a longstanding member of the Bally's club located in the Sheepshead Bay section of Brooklyn, N.Y. So far this season, the club has lacked air conditioning and proper ventilation. I was advised by club personnel that the matter would be addressed immediately after the Memorial Day weekend. Now more than two weeks later, the conditions at the club remain oppressive.

No one is able to provide any or reliable information concerning the club's deplorable environment. I e-mailed the corporation over two weeks ago and have received no substantive response.

Nor is this the first time the club has had no air conditioning. For all or substantial parts of the past two summers, the club also lacked air conditioning and proper ventilation. How am I supposed to use the club with air temperatures surpassing 90 and at times exceeding 100? I am paying for a membership that management is effectively denying me use of. I am 63 years old am not taking the risk of exercising under conditions that are hazardous to my health.

My numerous complaints to the club and letters and e-mails to the corporation have all fallen on deaf ears. No responses received and no corrective action
taken. I have asked Bally's to refund the balance of my current annual membership and plan to take my health club business elsewhere. I am encouraging other exasperated members to follow me. As for individuals thinking of joining Bally's for the first time, think again. Do yourselves a favor a run as fast as you can somewhere else. This is a thoroughly disreputable organzation.
